    PREFACE

What first led me to write a book on discipleship is the compelling force to pass on something to this generation, things the Lord has taught and exposed me to over the years, things that are not of doctrine but of life.

The second is that people from various churches go through discipleship and mission training in CAPRO offices in different cities and we do not have materials to give them that are concise and written in the context of our environment.

The third reason is closely related to the second. We teach these things, especially, the course, ‘Call to Discipleship’ as churches invite us to run training on discipleship and missions, and we have no materials to leave behind for them to read. This demand provoked me to work on this book.

The fourth reason stems from a commission we received from a Christian leader, to publish the truth and scatter it everywhere as certain men are spreading a message that is not really the Gospel. One effective way to ‘contend for the faith, which was once delivered to the saints’ is to keep publishing the truth.

What we speak may be forgotten soon after we had left a meeting but what is published will last several generations. I have faith that several years after I might have gone, if the Lord tarries, someone will find this little book, may be, covered with dust, and republish it to contend the violence that will be unleashed against the Church.

Except the Lord does something speedily, the coming years will be one of the worst for the Church. I am praying within me that this book will be part of God’s reserved army to resist the force of evil in days ahead. It is my prayer that through this book, this purpose will be accomplished, as well as meet the need of our Lord today in raising instruments of war out of His many children who have seen it fit to walk this path.

It is for these reasons that this book is written. May God bless it and turn it into ‘a live coal in his hand’ and burn it into the hearts of our readers! Amen!

    Chapter 1 - A call Unto Greatness

When a man gives his life to Christ, God chooses him out of the world, Jn.15:19. Jesus cannot transform him while with the world, so He chooses him out of the world. If Jesus tries to change him while ‘with the world,’ the world will not allow Him, so He calls him out of the world. Jesus cannot do this without the cooperation of the person.

    Where God makes His Men

In Mark 3:13-15, the Bible says,

And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him. And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, and to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils.

Jesus climbed to the mountain and from there invited Peter and his fellows to be with Him. This is a call unto discipleship. On that mountain, Jesus ordained these twelve disciples. The first goal as He ordained them was that they should ‘be with Him’, secondly, that He would ‘send them out to preach,’ thirdly, that they might ‘have power to heal sicknesses and to cast out devils’.

What was a priority for Jesus was to have men that would first of all ‘be with Him.’  This was far above any other thing. It is a man that ‘has been with’ Jesus that is qualified to be sent out to preach and to cast out devils. In ‘being with Him’, Jesus will have opportunity to conform them into His image and make them into what He wants them to be.

For Peter and Andrew, his brother, Christ called to make them fishers of men, that is, evangelists. He told them,

Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men, Mt.4:19.

It means that if Peter and Andrew
