    Chapter One – Kristina

    December 24th

    Merry Christmas!

    The clerk’s cheerful greeting grated on my nerves as much as the ubiquitous sound of Christmas carols blaring from the sound system. Call me Scrooge, but I for one was not hoping for a White Christmas, and I could give two shits about some old lady getting run over by a reindeer.

    I grabbed a bottle of Jack Daniel’s off the shelf and after only a moment’s hesitation, grabbed a second one. With Christmas on a Sunday this year, I was pretty sure I was looking at most things being shut down for three, maybe four days. I’d better stock up, just in case. I liked to be prepared.

    Fucking Christmas!

    I turned at the sound of a deep grumbly voice, wondering why it made my pussy tingle. Coming around an endcap filled with peppermint schnapps was a big burly man with a scowl I wanted to see again — from between my thighs. He was tall — easily several inches over six feet — and broad and muscled. I’d bet my last dollar this guy had played football at some point in his life. He looked like he could easily block a few offensive players.

    His curly brown hair was a bit messy, but artfully so, like he’d been in a wind tunnel or something, and his square jaw was covered in scruff. But it was those dark brown eyes that got me. They were deep and filled with a pain I understood very well, even if I didn’t recognize its source.
