The Nightmares of J.T. Night: She Has a Way of Getting Inside Your Head

About this ebook
Rev. Joseph has always gotten along well with his neighbor, Mrs. McGillicudy. When she asks him to help her move one day, he is more than happy to oblige. After the move, he doesn't feel quite right. He is starting to hallucinate things that aren't there. His apartment begins to change, looking more and more like Mrs. McGillicudy's apartment. Sometimes he swears he sees her in his apartment in horrifying ways. He begins to wonder if he's losing his mind. Come to think of it, she always was a bit odd in a lot of ways. There were, of course, those two really weird incidents in the past. And the other people she had helping her move, something didn't seem quite right about them. He'd chalked it all up to his imagination. But in the end, he is starting to be able to deny, as he's heard several others say before, she really does have a way of getting inside your head.

I write stories of the dark drama, fantasy, and horror variety. I like to go way outside the boundaries of conventionality and create things that have never been created before. I like to feel that my work has a uniqueness and originality all of its own. I am not trying to recreate things that have already done before or be like anyone else. I am simply trying to let my work be uniquely and utterly my own, reflecting what I truly feel and believe is important to express.

The Nightmares of J.T. Night Series Explanation
The Nightmares of J.T. Night is an anthology of short horror stories that follows dream logic. Unlike most horror stories in which there is some necessary suspension of disbelief in order to make it feel like the story fits within ‘reality’ (or some sort of quasi-reality), each story in the Nightmares of J.T. Night series is designed to mimic the feel of a literal dream-nightmare, complete with all the absurdities and illogical logic that dreams are known to have. Whenever we’re in a dream, we feel like it is really real and don’t notice just how much of it is actually illogical or absurd until we wake up. And yet – even in a waking state, looking back at just how illogical and unrealistic the dream actually was, the emotions we feel and experience in the dreams can still leave an impact on us as if we had actually really lived the experience, regardless of whether the events in the dream itself was actually real
or not. That is what the stories in this series try to recreate. The stories themselves – as far as any suspension of disbelief may be – are absurd and illogical and contain deliberate inconsistencies just as you would encounter them in a dream. But does that make the stories any less terrifying? I don’t think it does, and I thought I’d explore that idea in this series. To my knowledge, nobody has ever done an anthology series like this, or, at least, I’ve never been able to find one, and I thought it would be something fun to do. I hope you enjoy these stories as much as I’m enjoying writing them.

Alright! Just sign right there and you’re all good to go!
The landlord tells me as I reach over with the pen and sign on the dotted line, sealing my commitment to another year and a half at a fixed rate in the apartment I live in. Just a friendly reminder that, of course, there will be penalties to moving out early and breaking your lease!
Oh, there’s no worries about that.
I say. I love living here. It’s a nice place for a good price. There isn’t anywhere else I’m thinking of going for a long time.
The head landlord, Cynthia, beams as I say that. Her assistant, Megan, sits at the computer at her desk, typing away at stuff.
Well, we are so glad you like it here and we are very glad to have you here, Reverend! Is it okay if I call you Reverend?
I smile meekly.
Well, I’ve still got two more semesters of seminary left, and then I have to be officially ordained after that.
Well, I wish you the best of luck with that and your studies!
At least you’re putting in all the hard work.
Megan said. My former roommate simply ordered a certificate online.
It takes more than a certificate to be qualified for something like that.
I say, indicating my disdain for such practices. You got to actually know something about what you’re talking about and be trained for dealing with people in a variety of circumstances.
I know, which is why I say, I’m glad to know you’re putting in the hard work. I’m sure you’ll make a great reverend!
I’m going to certainly try my best!
I say.
I finish up with my lease paperwork and get everything squared away. Then I leave the leasing office and step outside into the brisk cool autumn air.
-
The leasing office is on a second story above the area below where they have special events, such as the monthly bingo night, or the upcoming Halloween bash. I head down the stairs at a brisk pace, eager to get back to my apartment and resume my studies. There is a lot to do.
Even though it’s autumn, the trees around the place are full and green and lush. Everything is in full bloom. It’s curiously a lot more like spring than autumn, I think to myself, but shrug and tell myself that the trees will probably start to turn different colors and shed themselves soon enough.
The apartment complex is pretty nice for how cheap it is. It’s the most inexpensive place one could possibly get that isn’t a dump. The landlords do a really good job of keeping it clean and pristine. I count myself lucky for being able to have found such a place.
As I walk around the pool area on the wooden sidewalk that will take me back to my own building where my apartment is on the bottom floor, I think to myself in anticipation of the fact I’ve only got two more semesters left. Not too long after that and I’ll be officially ordained and get assigned to my own parish.
I grin to myself a bit as I fantasize about what it will be like to be officially called ‘Reverend Joseph.’ It has a nice ring to it, I suppose.
As I come up to the area where my building is, there are other buildings to the left, right, and straight ahead all surrounding an area outside with trees and a two stone tables on opposite ends in between the apartments. As I am passing the building to my left, I come upon a very familiar site in the form of the sizable shrine to Mother Mary that is outside my
