Introduction
Dear Reader:
Thank you for purchasing and taking time to read content that was written from the heart with all my mind, body, and soul. In the process of writing this, I often joked with friends that the introduction might be longer than the actual text comprising my first book, and my hope is that it does not take away from the content. I use the words demon/demons for trauma/traumas so please feel free to substitute the latter word for the former.
Incorporating demon/demons has a lot to do with my Christian faith/spirituality, which I struggle with at times since this religion was imposed on people of Nahua descent through colonization. This usage is to highlight the ways my faith/spirituality has been significant to my lifelong commitment to social justice. I genuinely believe the first abolitionist prophet to grace this earth was Jesus Christ and that the Roman empire needed to crucify/lynch a dark colored man to ensure people get in line with the agenda of the establishment…an agenda that serves political interests over building beloved interdependent communities and people. I deeply believe the enemy has deceived humanity by having us buy into an idea of power that breaks others down and strips them of their dignity. Colonization bred an avarice and lust for power by man that resulted in the imposition of white supremacy, patriarchy, and ideologies which stand against the love of God and Jesus Christ. A holy love seeks to root out inequity and cultivate a just world where everyone is whole and has dignity. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.
