Love, Life, & Microblading - Ashley Louden

    Chapter 1: Betrayed Hearts

The year was January 2013, to be exact. I was stuck at a greyhound bus station with a ticket home but was told by my mother that I could no longer return. According to her, the best option for me was to find out how to enroll back in school. I could not do that being that the semester before then, which was fall, I stopped going to college. I was past the deadline to withdraw from classes; therefore, I received a failing grade in each category except one, where the professor had allowed me to finish the course before I left college. However, my remaining professors were not that kind of understanding, which resulted in me taking a failing grades in four classes. Of course, my grade point average was below the allowed amount; hence, I could not return the following semester. So, I was in the cold at the bus station, trying to figure out what was going through my mother's mind. The crazy part was that I originally went to Virginia to visit my best friend, which turned into becoming homeless.

That night I found my way to my uncle's girlfriend's house, and she allowed me to stay there for about a month while I tried to figure out how to return to school. It was not easy because instead of letting me be, they kept bugging me about when I would start applying for jobs. I was not interested in having a job: someone needed to tell them that. I was more focused on getting back to school. Eventually, I stayed at my great Aunt's house for about seven months. During that time, I did not have any income; I had to sell the little jewelry I had, which consisted of a necklace gifted to me by my brother, a ring that my mother gave me, and a cell phone that I was no longer using. I also took out a small loan but was still completely stressed out. I was also brain trying to figure out why my mother was doing this, especially since her knowing my situation with school. I was not talking to her; there were no phone calls or texts. I did not have much to say to her. I was so angry that she had kicked me out without any regard for the real danger I could have been in. Was she trying to teach me a lesson? If she was, it was the worst way to do so. How could she put her only daughter into this insane world? I was frustrated, hurt, angry, and confused because none of it made sense, at least not to me. I kept thinking of possible reasons for her actions and justifying them but came up with nothing. The only thing remaining for me was not to allow those thoughts to control my mind.

As time passed, I became more concerned about my finances as I was sure I would eventually run out of money. What would I do then? I was so scared of the future. A friend tried to convince me to get a sugar daddy, but I could not go through with it. She had many in the past and even tried to convince me more and justify it by saying that it would only be temporary until I could figure something out. I wanted to take a different route. So, I was just without money, but my aunt would pay for the little things I needed, and that was it.

In the meantime, I was hanging out with my best friend, my cousin Taylor, we were close, and everyone always said we looked alike. She was going to a party that her boyfriend was hosting and wanted me to accompany her. Everyone told me not to go, but I insisted because I didn't want her to go alone. I wasn't doing anything anyway, so I tagged along. We went there, and it was a much older crowd, but I did not care. I was just there for her. I did not drink that night once I saw her drinking. Someone had to be the sober one between the two of us. Within a short time and a few glasses, she started getting upset at all the women talking to her boyfriend. The fact that she was there, and he was entertaining them irritated her as she deemed it disrespectful. For the record, I saw it that way as well. Her mood was ruined, and she ended up keeping to herself. I later pulled her away and took her home. The party turned out different for her, but it helped me cool down from all the stress.

Time was moving fast, I was to the point where I was doing nothing with my life, just lying around the house each day. I kept pondering how I had gotten to where I was. I did not understand my mother's actions and how I would get my life going. I realized that I needed to do something with my life, so I made a few changes. I tried to enlist in the air force, but that process was cut short because I had to basically be perfect to be accepted into the Air Force. I picked up a small retail job at the mall, which lasted only a short time, too. During this time, I began dating a man that, at one point, was my best friend. I had a male best friend and a female best friend, the guy and I decided to step out of the friend zone and began dating one another. We were not in a relationship; we did not have a title; we were dating. At the time, that was the little happiness I did have; we would go on dates and spend time together, he would get me out of the house to keep my mind clear from what I was dealing with, and we were always hanging out. He was stationed in New York then, so occasionally, he would pay me to travel up there to see him and make sure I made it back. I eventually rode with him back when he was headed to New York, but he dropped me off in Maryland to pick up my clothes.

I picked up my clothes and realized I wasn't allowed back home. It was a sad and disappointing moment, but I tried so much not to show it. After all, that was my fate, and I had to deal with it. My mother dropped me off at the bus station, and she only told me that 'I could do much better than what I was doing.' I rode back to Virginia that night, but I was confused, angry, frustrated, and hurt by the fact that this was my mother's only answer. From there, I continued to stay at my aunt’s house and would travel back and forth
