    Book 5 - Lisa B. Diamond

    DEDICATION

This book is dedicated to my son. You told me you loved the constellations and kador so much, I added a bit more about them. Love, Mom.

And, for my daughter who is just beginning to get interested in the Salem Academy this year.

This book is also dedicated to the lovely children who have discovered the series in the last several months, and kept asking me when I was going to write the next one – a few of them who let me know are below:

my nephew, Sawyer – who said that his favorite books of all he read last summer (and, he's a voracious reader) were the ones his Aunt Lisa wrote; Aidan L., Catie, Eileen G., Adam B., Kiran, and the Midtown International School 4th grade class of 2013-2014 (Aidan, Aran, Cal, Emilie, Luke, Ray, Sandro, and Sayan).

Thank you, my thanks to all of you! Keep reading, keep dreaming.

    Epilogue

    Prologue

David was pacing nervously . It was the last kador game of the fall season. Kador was similar to soccer, otherwise known as football in European countries. The main difference between kador and soccer being that kador was played twenty feet in the air.

A few months ago, David wouldn't have thought any of this was possible. But that was before he and his nine-year old twin sister, Ashira, began attending their new school, the Salem Academy for Young Sorcerers.

Ashira walked into the room. I don't know why you're so nervous, she began. Her bright red hair was such a contrast to her brother's chestnut brown hair. Although everyone knew they were twins with the same smile and shape of their faces.

You know you're going to beat them, she continued pragmatically.

Do you really think so? David said, stopping in his tracks.

You did last time, his sister said philosophically. Anyways, it's a beautiful day for it. It always is down there.

Ashira was referring to the small private island in the Caribbean owned by a reclusive wizard who had dedicated the island's usage to the magical schools of the Americas. Sunscreen was mandatory all year round.

Seriously, David, you know your team has an advantage over the other team. Even I know that, Ashira said impatiently. Ashira only followed sports if her brother was playing, and often not even then. She left the room to go in search of her water bottle.

David knew that his team, the Salem Academy East, had an advantage over the Alaskan/Canadian school. The more northern school could only practice kador ten feet in the air, instead of the usual twenty feet, as anything twenty feet in the air at the Arctic Circle would freeze.

There were six kador teams in the Americas for the magic elementary schools: one from Alaska and Northern Canada, two from Salem Academy (one from East and one from West), one from Brazil, one from Argentina, and one from Mexico. For the last several years, Mexico had been ranked as number one in kador, with Argentina and Brazil competing for second.

Kador was played the same way, regardless of time zones. There were eight boys and girls on a team. One goalie, two defense right in front of the goalie, three offense, and two players for backup. The
