Where the Glass Meets the Sun
()
About this ebook
In Daniel Escobar's second book of poetry and prose, he shifts into a more mature tone than the one he created in From the Ashes as he releases his most vulnerable work to date. Where the Glass Meets the Sun is broken down into four sections, chronicling his childhood as a child of immigrants and as an immigrant himself - writing letters of love and pain to his family and his country, both old and new - and his struggles as he came to terms with his sexuality and came out as gay in his teenage years. He evolves through the book and reveals more layers as he allows us a deeper peek into his mind, like a diary laid bare for all to read. Born from the pause and reflection that the COVID pandemic caused the world, this is an experience of love, faith, hope and most of all, the exploration of the self and the immense growth in mind, body, and soul that came with the last 3 years. The pages are peppered inspirational and hopeful messages, mixed in with midnight thoughts, reminiscing friendships and relationships, and finishing off with what could only be described as love letters - diving deeper into his heart after meeting his husband and getting to know what a healthy relationship is supposed to be.
Where the Glass Meets the Sun peels back the curtains that were leftover in his life and shines a light on the world he wants you to see, through his eyes.

To my family. To my friends. To my love. The pillars that hold me steady on this journey. The foundation that keeps me grounded.
Where the glass meets the sun
I found refractions of my mind.
The rays falling on my face
cast shadows on the parts of me
I find hard to embrace.
But are these parts of me
not the whole of me?
For can the light exist not without the dark
and can the dark exist not without the light?
For without these I am not me.
Where the glass meets the sun,
it illuminates every cell of my home.
From the foundation beneath my feet,
to the pillars that support my heart.
From the rooms that are filled with
the mind, the body and the spirit
to the hearth,
the fire in my chest
that keeps me going and going.
Where the glass meets the sun
you will find a prism of colors
made up of the different facets
of who I really am.
Where the glass meets the sun
you will find me,
all of me,
as I am.
Foundation...
This is where it all begins...
Steady and firm,
this is what we build our lives on.
This is the beginning of our legacies,
for each of us leave something behind
whenever we leave this earth.
From the moment that
we take our first breath,
these are the building blocks
of what makes us who we are.
This is our foundation.
An everlasting monument showing
that you were here.
From the heavenly dimensions I fall
into my mother's womb.
The gateway and the beginning
of my brand-new journey.
The portal from which
blood and flesh and bone
come together to create
perfect imperfection.
Where cells become rooms,
where eyes become windows,
where the same fire
that gave life to the cosmos
ignites new life in this tiny heart.
Hello world,
I have arrived.
We come into this world
not with the silence
of a heart that will not speak,
but with the war cry
of 1000 warriors within us,
of 1000 battles we have fought,
of 1000 lives we have lived.
We were not born
to be diminished.
We were created to stand firm
on the ground beneath our feet,
to be heard from the depths of the earth
to the tops of mountains and beyond.
We were born ready for life number 1001.
The moment your
velvet slumber ends,
you are put into the path
towards your purpose.
For everything about your circumstances
is indeed no accident.
Remember that as you
go through your life.
I was put on this earth
to add my own special touch
of magic and wonder.
Each one of us
are here to break the mold.
So why do we conform
to cookie cutter comfort?
Why do we bend to the will
of a world that knows nothing
of who we truly are?
- Break Out
Like our mothers pushed
and pushed
and pushed,
we must continue to push
to destroy conventions
and break the chains.
Cutting the umbilical cord
is not enough.
You must be willing to break free
of generational curses.
Of weights strapped onto you
and cords that cannot be seen, but
are stronger than
the toughest steel.
We must continue to push
as our mothers did
because getting here is only half the battle.
She sowed the seeds that make me who I am.
She ingrained herself into the corners
of my cells.
Her eyes are mine.
My nose contoured in her image.
She wears a smile that
speaks of love – love that
is not rivaled by anything else.
Her perfume cementing in the
deep recesses of memories I will create.
She held me in her belly for months,
made a home out of herself for me.
Spoke music,
spoke wisdom,
spoke food,
and went through changes
just to put a little magic into this world.
Mother I could never thank you
for the sacrifices you have made for me.
For the things you changed and
all you gave up and tears you have cried.
For breathing life into a new soul
and laying brick and mortar
that would become the home of me.
Pour into me knowledge.
Fill my cup with the wonders
of the cosmos.
Hold my hand
when the ground is unsteady and I go into the unknown.
Watch me crawl and then give me wings
so you can see me soar
above the wildest dreams of humanity.
Instill in my soul your hopes and watch me flourish.
He calls me his pride and joy.
Hues of blues flooded his mind
and a joy he never knew he would feel again
fueled his heart.
He is old yet he is young.
He is wise yet does not understand.
But here I am
bundled and bright
in awe and wonder and in newborn light,
as he tries to figure out what
the new blossoms are about.
Knowing he has a clean slate,
not knowing
what to do next.
He can be the father
he never had before.
One candle.
Three candles.
Five candles.
Seven candles.
Time travels through my body.
Time travels for them.
Who are they now that I am here?
Who were they then before I came?
Who will I be
