How To Disrupt An Industry? - Arshroop Saini
PART 1
LOST & FOUND
How To Overcome Failures
I remember the time when I was sitting at my bench placed at the corner of my room. I was depressed and dissatisfied with my life. I was a wasted student. In short I was a failure
. At least now I’ve accepted that!
It was during the lockdown that I realized I’ve wasted my entire middle school doing foolish things that no one cares about. I was bewildered, had no purpose or goal, nothing!! I’m grateful to lockdown because it provided me with the time and space for self-introspection
. I diverted my time towards doing some productive work, following some cool YouTubers, reading so-called self-help
books, and listening to some dope podcasts. I did it all! And fortunately, it somehow worked.
I was amazed by the work and personality of Aman
Dhattarwal (A 20 under 20 edtech startup founder and a YouTuber). His words Money should not be the motivation
, Try to add some value to the lives of people through your work
, and Have the courage to stand against a mountain
etc. changed the course of my life ahead. Two reasons it did work was because he was practical (serial entrepreneur) and different from those motivational speakers(fraudsters), second: I was ready to listen, I accepted my failure.
The first step towards overcoming a failure is realizing where you were wrong
I experienced a mindset shift. In short, it was like changing from a job seeker to a job provider.
This book would act as the chronicles of all that I learned/realized a er this incident and how I used that experience to crack the code towards creating a successful blue ocean strategy.
Be ready to know the unknown 🚀
Finding A Purpose
We’re here to put a dent in the universe. Otherwise, why else even be here?
- Steve Jobs
Society says you must have your life goals
. It’s all bull shit, ask them why? You’ll realize it’s the truth. I’m rather here to answer why you should even have them. Again, it's my perspective.
Having a purpose is important to just check whether you’re on the correct path. Every purpose is equally valuable. Do whatever you want in life, but if you don’t know why you’re doing it, it's all wasted!
Purpose need not be permanent. It can be short lived. Having it would just help you ensure that you’re focused towards one thing.
Never disclose your real purpose, work in silence, just show em’ the results.
There are unlimited channels to reach your purpose. Having a purpose in life would grant you an extra edge by helping you follow the right omens, utilize the correct opportunities, and connect with the right people.
I personally believe that we can change our destination if we want, it’s all in our hands, we have full control, never blame God for where you are right now. It's your life, you are the supreme commander, then why hesitate? Remember the KFC story?
Ideas Are Overrated
Ideas come to everyone, but the problem is they come and they go! Getting ideas is not a big deal in this era of Tor and Brave. Take the example of Meta, the Winklevoss twins had the idea, but the winner was the one who was capable of bringing that idea to reality (Mark).
Focus more on upskilling and connecting with the right people in order to make yourself equipped with all the necessary things required to build what you think/dream, that’s what Walt Disney and Ray Kroc did, and that’s what entrepreneurship is all about my friend!
If you know how to approach it in order to build it, you’re the ultimate winner!
And this forces me to remind you Ideas are great, execution is gold
.
The Magic Formula
Do you know why most businesses fail? You may answer: bad leadership, lack of supportive/quality team, profits?? My take on this is: most businesses fail because they run behind making money (as their first priority)!
Shoot! You may say that’s the main purpose Arshroop!
It may be daunting to earn lots of money. But you will answer it on your own, consider yourself as a customer of my clothing brand named Z. First question any business needs to answer is: why will the customer pay me money? In your case it may be that you’ll buy Z branded clothes if they are comfortable, poppy, colourful or trendy, opinions will differ from case to case. In short, I call all these features that a customer wants from a brand as values
.
See it's a give and take. But in a business, it’s first given and then take. Follow a value driven approach, money and everything will come automatically
, and as I call them the side effects
.
Find a problem (Trigger)
Find a unique solution (Value first)
Build the solution (Execution)
Provide the service or product in name of your company (Money last) That’s business!
Ps: This was my top secret until today 🙂
The Unfair Advantage
Do you know what’s the most important factor behind a successful venture?
It's neither the idea, nor the execution, nor the timing! It is the backend team, and if your team is very coordinating and supportive, no one can stop you from disrupting. Building a strong core team should be your first priority if you’re aiming for reaching the top, no matter where you are. The one having a strong and supportive core team has an unfair advantage in the industry
My other perspective on this is that if you would become successful in finding the right people to work with earlier in your life, in high school, college etc, you would be the luckiest one! Here by right people
I mean that the person should have skills that you lack, should have aligned visions, and should have a great motivation to achieve something together.
A team must be very diverse, having people proficient in their particular fields. And when their visions align, miracles are bound to be seen!
Personally speaking, one of the main reasons behind my success in high school is my strong, motivated, and loyal team that I was successful in finding in my junior year (I wish it would be earlier). When we work, we work religiously, and when we procrastinate, we procrastinate religiously.
Together we fight, together we grow, together we achieve
- Arshroop Singh Saini
That’s the mantra my friends 🚀
How to find the right people?
Finding the right people is an art, the one who masters it, masters everything
-Arshroop Singh Saini
In this era of LinkedIn, Discord, and Instagram, finding people has become very easy. But the point is finding the right
people, trust me it’s one of the most challenging things on Earth. But if you wish to be on the bright side, you gotta crack the code! What’s the code? Let's explore it together.
Use social media for your good: Believe it or not, social media is the most powerful tool for anyone right now, it's up to you how you are using it.
Pros: Strong AI which gives excellent recommendations if you train it in the correct way (LinkedIn, Instagram), fastest way to connect, connect with people sharing the same interests (Discord/Reddit), reach a larger audience (Twitter), Targeted search, large user base, Ease of use.
Cons: Takes a lot of time, a lot of distractions, limited scope, comparison and FOMO.
Participate and win in online/offline programs, competitions or conferences. It will help you gain experience as well as the opportunity to connect.
Pros: Credible (the person you connect with is guaranteed to be qualified), (increased probability of working together on your next project, Authentic (you get to analyse people’s skills in practical and target the right ones to connect), test people in real time as you work with them currently, higher chances of making lifelong connections.
Cons: Time consuming applications, very low selectivity, deadlines bound, people can fake their identity in applications.
