The Resurrection
I knew this was too good to be true.
Whined Thomas. I knew it.
We don’t know anything of the sort.
John calmly reprimanded. We must wait, we must be patient.
He spoke softly, trying to defuse the fear which hung heavy like a woolen blanket amongst them all in the upper room. We must have faith, not doubt, not fear.
John added.
What would you have us feel John?
Asked James. Confidence...joy...courage?
Yes...courage.
Peter interrupted. Courage and strength of heart.
He whispered. How many times did He tell us to have faith or remind us how little faith we possessed? I still hear His voice; it burns into my ears, my heart.
Peter surveyed the room, the upper room, in which only a couple days ago all twelve shared a meal. But now the words of Jesus, their teacher, their rabbi, slowly came to light.
The memories of the last few days had worried them. After their meal on Thursday in which the Teacher acted so strange...washing their feet, speaking in some sort of code. Words they did not understand.
Peter thought about Judas. He had seemed so true to the cause, but Satan had moved him, he used him to help the Romans and Jews take the Chosen One into custody. Peter remembered how he cut off the ear of the closest man to him when they came to take Jesus into custody. The look in the man’s eyes, the ignorant smirk, it pushed Peter over the edge.
Yes...I know you’re right.
James admitted. We must have courage; we must have faith and believe.
James sunk into a wooden chair and sulked. The night in the garden when Jesus took him, John and Peter to pray with Him still haunted his soul. Jesus was the one in need of comfort that night in the garden.
He cried. And all He asked was that we stay awake and watch over Him.
John sat next to James and comforted his friend. Yes, that worries me too my brother.
John’s face grew angry. And Judas...I’m glad he hung himself before I got to him.
What are we to do now?
James asked his two friends. We need Him to tell us, to help us. Or do we simply go back to our nets?
We go on, we follow The Way.
John stated confidently. Mother is finally asleep, but when she wakes, we will ask her.
Peter walked over and sat down with his two friends. Yes, John is right. Somehow, we must go on, but I feel so unworthy to think about it right now...after what I did.
Bitter tears rushed down Peters cheeks and quickly pooled on the wooden floor. John and James were trying to comfort their friend as best they could, but they all
