Father Fergus
When Father Fergus retired at age seventy-five, many in his parish breathed a sigh of relief. Though he was well liked they felt, when in the confessional, he could be rather strict and severe. When a major sin was revealed he asked questions...many questions. He wanted to get to the bottom of what was going on in their lives to cause them to commit this particular sin. He was proficient at finding the root cause and through discussion, prayer and a heavy penance, freeing the soul from the burden of their sin. In other words, Father Fergus was an excellent confessor.
It seems the priests in his parish and others, worked the confessional like a fast-food restaurant. You rattle off your sins into the window,
