CHAPTER ONE
Introduction
Lancelot carried my honor and Guinevere my guilt. Mordred bares my sins. My knights have fought my causes. Now, my brother. I shall be king.
– Excalibur, 1981
Almost everybody knows at least one aspect of King Arthur’s many legendary stories. It is very difficult to have not to. May it be as simple as knowing his sword’s name is Excalibur to as complicated as being aware of the betrayal Lancelot and Guinevere did to the king. One way or another, you must have come across the legend that is King Arthur of Camelot.
There are many stories of Arthur, and most – if not all – can be debated whether they are fictional. And that is not the only debate there is regarding Arthurian stories. The other discussion is if these stories were true, which of the versions is the right one?
