Chapter 01
The grand and magnificent temple of Ujleswar Mahadeva was slowly drawing everyone towards it. There was no priest in this temple, only two or three servants who lived in the village of Vanagala. Among these three sevaks, one was reputed to be a Mahant named Madhavananda. One of them had a daughter named Avantika, who was no less than a nymph in appearance. As soon as I saw her, I was enamored by her beauty. Avantika was as beautiful as she was simple. Being the daughter of a Mahant, Avantika never indulged in any hobbies; she had only one passion—her attachment and love for Mahadeva. Despite reaching a young age, she spent the whole day in the temple.
Avantika had reached a marriageable age, so several mothers started coming for her. However, the reputation of her father, Madhavananda, deterred anyone from talking about it. Even the people who came to see Avantika, upon seeing her father’s displeased face, spilled the truth like a parrot. Consequently, Madhavananda couldn’t find a suitable groom for Avantika. Moreover, Avantika herself, considering Mahadeva to be her everything, didn’t deem it suitable to marry anyone else. One day, while Madhavananda was busy worshiping Mahadeva, Avantika overheard her father’s complaint to Mahadeva.
"Mahadeva, you are our Karta Dharta.
