About this ebook

An older lady and a little girl find friendship in one another. I see myself in both of these precious people, although I'm not what I would refer to as precious. They really are! As I wrote about these two precious people, I grew to love them more. I hope you like Mrs. Parks and Anna as much as I do!

My life's verse is Jeremiah 32:17. There was a time in my life when I thought I was too hard for even God to fix. One day, I happened to read Jeremiah 32:17. Toward the end of this verse it says, "There is nothing too hard for Thee." From deep within I thought even me. Jeremiah 32:17 is just as true today as it was when I read it in 1980. I'd like you to know, Full Circle is both historical and fiction. When I was a child, I loved listening to my parents, aunts, and uncles when they talked about their childhood. My mother was the best storyteller I've ever heard. She not only spoke to tell how tall a boy was, but she also showed how tall he was by standing up and raising her hand up as far as she could reach. When they thought they were done talking about when they were children, I used to plead with them to tell us more. One day, I may write about the amazing things they told my cous- ins and me. One thing that comes to mind is their one-room schoolhouse.

Hello, my name is Katherine Parks.

It’s taken me a long time to realize how smart my doctor really is! It’s been almost a year since she suggested I walk fifteen minutes every day. I put it off (as I often do) but a few months ago I reluctantly began walking. It wasn’t easy at first but I’m able to walk fifteen minutes now without a problem. I take my time though because I need to take my age into consideration. I wish I had started walking when my doctor first suggested it but on the other hand, I am glad I finally began. It takes me about fifteen minutes to walk to a park near my apartment. It’s a nice park and there are many other people (young and old) that walk there. I have lots to look at and think about on my walks. Since I’ve been walking here as long as I have, I may have sat on every bench in the park by now!

This time I chose a bench that looked as though it was once a deep green but now it’s somewhat worn. I remember sitting on this bench but that’s fine! It was good then and it’s exactly what I need now! It’s in the sun and the sunshine feels good. As I sat down, I became aware my gym shoes feel like they’ve shrunk. Wiggling my toes is tough. I wonder, could my shoes have really shrunk? Of course not! My feet must be swollen. As I leaned back and looked up at the little clouds noticing their shapes and sizes, I felt sleepy…a pleasant sleepiness. I relaxed and as I did, I felt as though I could fall asleep.

I soon realized I had fallen asleep because I was woken by the sound of children’s laughter. Several little girls were jumping rope about a hundred feet away. Other girls are nearby waiting for their turn to jump rope, but they seem quite content simply watching the other girls play. One of those little girls waved at me as she walked toward the bench I’ve chosen to sit on. I smiled and waved back. Then she held out her hand to shake hands with me. I liked her immediately and why wouldn’t I? She’s friendly and she’s very polite. While we were shaking hands, I noticed how pretty she was. Her dark brown hair is in lovely locks. Her eyes are dark brown too. Another thing I noticed as we were shaking hands is she bites her fingernails. I feel sorry for her because I know only too well the difficulties my nail biting has caused me. I’m sure this is tough for this little girl but right now here she is, shaking my hand. I noticed she has ribbons in her hair, and they match her outfit.

I told her that her ribbons are pretty and she said, I have lots of ribbons; my mommy puts them in my hair every morning, usually one on each side. She went on to say, My mommy wants me to look pretty, then she quickly added, but people can’t tell me I’m pretty, cause mommy doesn’t want me to be stuck up. I think somehow she’s mistaken about this, because she really is very pretty and she is so full of life. I’d say she’s about seven, maybe eight years old but I didn’t get the opportunity
