    About the Author

    Will You Come Back

I waited for the flight to land, wishing what had happened yesterday was just a dream. The hostess offered me water without asking. I was not thirsty but took the offered bottle and had a sip. She stayed by my seat, flirting with me. Irritated, I replied politely and thank God she finally went away. Just as I turned my head, I saw a boy watching me and smiled at him. The little boy stared at me and I felt that he needed something. I moved forward a little to talk with him. He pointed his finger at me but I didn’t understand. He got up from his seat and came over to mine. Suddenly, I just opened my arms to hold him.

The child placed his hands on my cheek and said, Why are you are crying, Uncle? As tears rolled down my face, the little boy wiped my tears. Don’t worry, Uncle, everything is going to be fine.

His words gave me a little hope. After the plane landed, I got up and said sorry to the hostess for my behavior. I was an experienced traveler but this airport was new to me. I just followed the other passengers, without thinking, to the exit. I looked around for Raghu but I was unable to find him. I stood around for a while, hoping he might be searching for me. I finally took out my mobile to call him. As I switched it on, I got a message: Ceremony is beginning, I will try to stop it. Come quickly. from Raghu.

After seeing the message, I leaned on the pillar, with people milling all around me. My eyes were clouded and I couldn’t see straight. Suddenly I was in a taxi, turning into the church. Everyone was standing up and I saw a girl dressed in a bridal gown. She was facing the other side of the church and I moved toward her. She turned a little and it was my angel, she was stunningly gorgeous, like a painting of a goddess brought to life. I could stay here forever seeing her. I knew her eyes were searching for me, I called to her loudly and waved to her. She turned around. Her eyes were filled with tears and she was smiling, running toward me.

Suddenly a man walked in front of me as round as a globe, dressed in a brown uniform. He looked like a taxi driver. What the hell is happening? How dare he stand between us? I wanted to smash his face but he said, Sir, your taxi. Sir! You just waved, what is your destination?

I stepped back. I’m in the airport! I pulled myself together and told him the address. As I entered the cab I smelled perfume, the same perfume used by my love. I mentioned this to the driver.

I just dropped off some college girls, Sir, replied the driver.

    *****

College… college days are the most memorable and best part of my life. Campus, lovable canteen, numerous bunks, lifetime friends and the love of my life; always wish I could bring those days back. When we were in college, she was always fighting with Raghu to sit beside me. Her favorite color is sea-green, she likes gardening and loves birds. She’s simple and smart; with sparkling eyes, a cute, pointed noise, and an attractive smile. I still remember whenever she wore a new dress, so many guys were watching her she used to count. It was a big topic at the canteen with other friends or whenever we got together to eat.

She liked to grab everyone’s attention, but her purity drew me toward her. My favorite color is white and I wanted to see her in it. I asked her so many times but she always avoided the subject, saying jokingly, I’ll wear white at our wedding, dear.

‘What’s happening over there?’ I wondered. I wanted to call Raghu, but I was afraid I wouldn’t know how to face the situation. The cab just passed a pizza corner hub to hangout, her favorite spot from our college days.

    *****

We would go to the pizza corner every day, even though it was a long drive from campus. We’d go so far that my back would ache. There was a closer place that was the same. It irritated me sometimes, why couldn’t we go to the closer
