tell a tale of tarot - Kinsey R McIntyre

    1

    wands

i balance precariously on a branch

its tree swaying in the light wind

a fire blooms at her roots

climbing her as i once did as a child

summer breeze combing through my hair

the flames gnaw at her bark

    darkening her skin

    yet i stay still

feeling the warmth tickle my bare feet and that same breeze lift the heat higher up her limbs

i can see the light from below

a glowing sun that lingers on the ground

as it rises, i feel her shake

her roots curling deeper into the soil to keep her balance

    but when i look up

    oh, when i look up

    she is in full bloom

    flowers facing the sky

fruit being warmed by the ever-rising fire

    in spite of the flames

    regardless of the heat

she gives me comfort in the shape of apples and leafy laughter

just as i knew she would

just to teach me that regardless of how the world burns

    i can blossom

    -ace

two doors stand in front of me

    a torch hanging above each

    one red

    one blue

it seems cliche until you face it yourself

    choosing between red and blue

the threat of a wrong decision stinging the back of your mind

but i don’t see the roses that bloom in shades of purple surrounding the doors’ frames

it’s hard being colorblind in a world full of roses and flames
