She knew it was Eric’s special place to sneak off to during these parties. These boring and marvelous parties full of people who could toss aside money without a thought that would make the average person’s year. The atmosphere was almost choking with privilege, and Alice was amazed that she’d found a dress to wear that didn’t make her totally stand out like a sore thumb among the rich and famous. She just knew she wanted Eric badly, and now his attentions were drawn to her.

He grabbed her elbow and whispered in her ear to meet him at the indoor tennis court. His family’s estate had both an outdoor and an indoor tennis court, and the indoor one would allow them to both enjoy the night sky and have some privacy for themselves. She knew he did this with all the women he saw, she didn’t care. She was just glad it was her this time.

She was to go first and he would follow some minutes later, so as not to let anyone think they left at the same time. This was also what he did with his former lovers. She didn’t mind. She enjoyed the secretness of the affair, keeping it just to themselves. At least for now.

She pretended to meander out to the gardens and to take in some night air, and slowly promenaded to the side gate that lead down the path to the tennis courts, both indoor and outdoor. The indoor pool and tennis courts had a few lights on to give a little illumination that they were there and being tended.
