    Michael checked the room clock by the bedside, he saw that it was a quarter past four.

    Linda should have arrived by now.

    Michael sat twisting his ring around his finger. His left leg bounced, the only one of the two that could since ‘44. Twenty years had come and gone. Nothing had ever gotten easier. Not for him, anyway.

    The door opened, and Linda broke through the midday sun that filled the entry. Without a word she walked over to the empty seat out on the patio across a table from Michael. Linda reached into her handbag, pulled out a cigarette and lit it.
