About this ebook

Eden

I have to get away from the bustling city life, away from high expectations and away from demanding voices telling me what to do every single second. Having a mother whose greed comes before her daughter and a father too passive to talk back to his wife, I can't stand my mother breathing down my neck and controlling every aspect of my life.

That's why I choose to leave them.

I have no destination in mind, just simply getting away from the city is my goal. A town with mountains behind it sounds intimidatingly appealing.

Then I meet the big, grumpy, and very strong Callen.

He's everything I'm trying to avoid. Controlling, domineering, and possessive.

Callen

I have been in the mountains for too long, and it's my choice to stay away from civilization. Being a convicted felon doesn't sit well with the people in town and I honestly don't give a damn about what they think.

I prefer solitude, and when Eden came barreling into my world with that lost look on her pretty face, I knew my life would soon change.

Nothing brings a spark more explosive than this obsessiveness curling in my stomach when I see her.

I have her.

Prison has toughened me up more than I already was, and her trusting nature makes her too much of a target for anyone.

She trusted this savage beast of a man to keep his hands to himself and protect her from danger.

Two years and counting, my babygirl still believes I'm a good man.

    Chapter One

    _____________

    Eden

    Babygirl?

I look up from the book in my hand; it’s heavier and thicker than most of the collections in our home.

Daddy’s voice rings out again, and I throw the book onto the ground and get up from where I was seated by the fireplace.

In here, Daddy! I call out to him.

I hear his heavy boots stomping around the cabin. The house is huge, and Daddy tells me that he had made renovations because he didn’t want me to get bored in the small space he had when he was living by himself.

He says that he doesn’t need much, but that I need all he can get me since I’m his precious Babygirl. I giggle to myself, skipping towards the front door.

Winter is harsh in the mountains. Daddy may be able to withstand the brittle and painful wind, but I can’t. I would essentially wither without proper clothes, which is why Daddy always lends me his clothes.

It’s nice and cozy on my small body since he is a giant with that scruffy beard and massive body.

    He’s a giant teddy bear.

My bare feet pad out to where Daddy had slammed the door shut, getting his boots off on the rug that I had put there so that we wouldn’t dirty the cabin.

    Gosh, he’s so big.

I look at him, noting everything about him that makes my heart flutter: the rugged look of his worn jeans, the old combat boots he wears for terrain convenience, and the plaid shirt stretched tight over his wide upper body, effectively hiding the ripped muscles underneath.

His strong jaw has a full beard that finishes his scary demeanor with a set of intense eyes that has me squirming in excitement to launch myself at him.

What stops me from my usual routine of peppering his face with kisses are the red splatters on his red shirt; I had initially thought they were just patterns.

Daddy said he had something to take care of, and I knew better than to question his orders for me to stay put. The mountains are unpredictable, and Daddy’s sense is more refined than mine.

Daddy, you’re hurt! I gasp, running up to him.

Don’t touch, baby, his deep voice growls. I don’t want you to catch anything.

I-I can get the first-aid kit! I struggle to not put my hands on him.

    He smiles handsomely.

I’m not hurt, just some unfortunate accident with a hiker, Daddy explains, stepping onto the wooden floor with his thick socks.

Are they okay? I ask, eyebrows pulling together in worry for the poor soul out there.

Daddy has told me horror stories about the mountains, from legends to real events. He said that a serial killer is living in the mountains and that the killer has never been found despite the bodies of hikers going missing every climbing season.

If that isn’t enough to scare me, he also said that wild animals are roaming around and they will attack when they see me. I’m a little bunny and Daddy is the only one that can protect me from all of that, he will never let anything bad happen to me.

I took them down. Something flashes in his dark eyes. I cock my eyes to follow the mysterious thought going through his head, but I can't ever seem to read his thoughts.

I shrug and accept his reasoning; the town below us is fully equipped to treat any injuries.

I haven’t personally been down there, only that one time when I was passing through town.

A lot of things happened in that one day. I only remember some parts of that day, but it was rainy and gloomy. Daddy had found me wandering around the mountains without any protection or food.

I was so scared of him because I thought he was one of those men my mother had sent to get me back.

With me, she can’t inherit my grandpa’s inheritance.

I’m not sure how the legalities of it work, but I knew I didn’t want to be in that toxic home anymore. Dad and Mom are two very bad people; all they care about is the family name.

They don’t care about me, and they definitely don’t care about grandpa.

Baby? A warm palm cups my cheek, bringing me back to reality as I gaze into Daddy’s loving eyes.

    Welcome back! I beam brightly.

He kisses my lips. I’m back.

I reach out to unbutton his shirt, but Daddy is already at it with his thick fingers. Watching him undress is so naughty. I should be looking away to give him privacy, but his strong chest captivates me.

His jeans hang low on his sculpted hips, teasing my eyes with what I can’t have unless he gives me permission. He is strict on that part. I have to ask for his permission before I do something because he knows what’s best for me. He wants the option to think and assess my wants, though he gives in to me if what I ask if reasonable.

I paw the scars littered crudely around his chest and giddily hum while he slings his tattooed arm around my neck for a heated kiss that leaves me weak at my knees.

I love you, baby, so much.

Sometimes Daddy goes out and comes back with a raging storm in his eyes. He then tells me that I’m his good babygirl, and for a moment I stop wondering what made him turn into a fiery mess as his appearance would be touched by a storm of the unknown.

There are times when Daddy comes back to our cabin with lost hiking equipment, and it’s the finders keepers mentality that allows me to not ask questions since the risk of getting lost in the mountains is greater than being eaten by bears.

Yes, Daddy told me bears are roaming around. It’s so scary out there, I don’t know how he can live up here.

Well, yes, I do know. He is the strongest man. My Daddy can wrestle a bear and win, I just know it. He has proven to me that he can protect me by singlehandedly dismantling the cars that have been dispatched to come after me, courtesy of my mother.

He was furious that one of the bad men had hurt me. Even if it was on accident, he had hurt me nonetheless, and Daddy didn’t take too kindly to see the blood trickle down my arm.

I thought it was odd at the time because I didn’t know who he was; I simply just brushed it off as a concerned Samaritan. Daddy took me to his cabin in his arms, treading in the rain and terrible woody terrain. I wasn’t afraid of him; no alarms had been going off in my head, so I went with my heart
