On a lightless and gloomy midnight, the first zombie appeared at Detective Mickie Potatoes’s office.

Detective Potatoes awoke with a start. He spilled his cup of coffee all over his desk and trench coat.

Manure! he chirped.

He grabbed some used napkins and blotted at the stain seeping into his coat.

He glanced at the clock. Midnight? Who would come to the police station at this hour?

A strange, guttural moan sent a chill down Detective Potatoes’s spine.

Coffeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, crowed a voice through the door. Coffeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Detective Mickie Potatoes stood slowly.

The silhouette of a large crow darkened the frosted glass of his office.

Hello? Mickie asked, opening the top drawer of his desk and removing his police baton. He moved around his cluttered desk. May I help you?

The call came through the glass.

Coffee! the crow cawed. Coffee!

Then a very large crow burst through the door.

Mickie raised his baton, but a blast from the crow's wings knocked him off-balance, and he fell to the floor.

With flailing wings that knocked awards and pictures from the wall of the tiny office, the crow staggered into the room. Coffee! the crow said. Coffee.
