Dessy And Mermen - Screenplay - Dianna Diverno

    SCENE 1:

(See estate from Master Demetrisio, entrance and inscription. Slowly the camera goes inside, we see the house, the pasture, the barn, the horses. Then we see the courtyard and the old fountain. Next to them are workers who are putting up a large statue of Wicky the horse. Master Demetrisio stands and looks at her, and next to him is a worker 1. They look amazed as they watch the statue be placed)

    DEMETRISIO:

If you see Salikil, finally the statue of the best horse will be in the yard!

    SALIKIL: (WORKER 1):

    Yes, yes, yes.

    (he nods his head)

The Wicky horse is your best horse!

    DEMETRISIO:

He won a lot of trophies.

    SALIKIL:

Yes, yes! He's had a lot of very, very successful races.

    DEMETRISIO:

    I think more than 20!

(the workers finished installing a statue of the Wicky horse. In a few moments, everyone stands by and observes the work they have completed)

    WORKER 2:

    What a beautiful statue!

    WORKER 3:

It represents the most famous horse from the Hippodrome, certainly at its best.

    DEMETRISIO:

This is going to be the funniest part of this place.

    SALIKIL:

    I agree with that!

    WORKER 2:

    Me too!

    SALIKIL:

Mr. Demetrisio, I think you should call the media now.

    DEMETRISIO:

    Media? Journalists?

    WORKER 2:

    Yes, why not.

    DEMETRISIO:

    Why should I call them?

    SALIKIL:

Well, because the horse Wicky is now the most famous racehorse in town, the champion at the Hippodrome, you should tell the public that he now has his statue.

    WORKER 1:

And he's doing it with you! I mean here on this property.

    DEMETRISIO:

I do. I think I should do that in the future...

    WORKER 2:

It's going to be a sensation, I'm sure.

(During this time, the camera moves a bit higher.)

    VOICE:

And so The Master Demetrisio ordered a statue of his best and most expensive horse to be made.

(Short sequences of Wicky are shown at the Hippodrome racing)

Wicky was his horse who won first place many times and many cups are now in the office of Master Demetrisio.

    (we see cup shelves)

Wicky now had a place of honor in the barn and with the other horses.

    (scene Wicky in the barn)

And all this was a common day for the estate, the only curious fact in all was that there was no Desdemona anywhere. Desdemona was the daughter of the Master Demetrisio, but everyone called her Dessy.

(The camera slowly climbs all the way to Dessy's room window. Through the window, we see Dessy inside. The camera slowly enters. Dessy is in front of the mirror and brushes her hair. Sound of the knock on the door.)

    DESSY:

    Forward!

    (Merkez enters the room)

    MERKEZ:

    I brought you a letter!

    DESSY:

    (She's confused and surprised)

    Letter? What letter?

    MERKEZ:

    Your fiancé. From Rome.

    DESSY:

    Ah, Gianni!

(She looks like she doesn't care. She looks in the mirror again and adjusts the hairband. She's impressed with her own reflection.)

    MERKEZ:

    He writes to you!

(Merkez gives her that letter, but Dessy doesn't take it)

    DESSY:

    He's very bored. Right, Merkez?

    MERKEZ:

    Why do you think that?

    DESSY:

So.. He writes me letters all the time.

    MERKEZ:

    That's nice of him

    DESSY:

    Heartbreaking words. Lyrics to songs.

    MERKEZ:

    (She nods)

It's nice that he's so romantic. You don't think so?

    DESSY:

    (She shrugs her shoulders)

    Well, no!

    (she turns towards her)

It would be very useful and nice if I was in love with Gianni too.

    MERKEZ.

(She widens her eyes as if in amazement)

    Didn't you?

    DESSY.

    Well, no!

    MERKEZ:

But then why are you marrying him?

    DESSY:

I'm not getting married! At least not yet! And I hope not. It's all because my dad insisted on getting engaged. My dad didn't even ask me if I liked Gianni.

    MERKEZ:

But I think he loves you!

    DESSY:

Yes, he did. But the letters are not proof of that. Anyone who is a little smart can write 5 heartbreaking romantic sentences, but it means that he feels love. Or anything like that.

    MERKEZ:

    (she postpones the letter)

So you're not going to read the letter?

(she puts her hands on her hips)

    DESSY:

    (reluctantly)

Well, I'll read it sometime. I sure will! But not now! And not today! (He walks to the window and looks out.)

Maybe not this week, not this month. Hey Merkez, let's get crowded out now! I see a lot of randy. Oh, and there's my dad! What's going on out there now?

    MERKEZ:

So I think they finally planted a statue of Wicky the horse next to that old phonate this morning.

    DESSY:

Yes, I see that stutue. She's beautiful.

    MERKEZ:

    And very expensive!

    DESSY:

    And that's for sure! Um!

(she looks at the old fountain and into the water)

Um! If only this crowd were to disperse!

    MERKEZ:

Dessy, you're just a little weirdly impatient today!

    DESSY:

Yes, yes, yes. I kind of did!

    SCENE 2:

(Dessy is in the barn next to the horse. She cuddles Wicky and next to her comes Master Demetrisio)

    DESSY:

(She looks at other horses. Wicky's next to Jeanne, and Spidey's in a spider's web in the corner)

Today was a beautiful day, my dear horse!

(Spider Spidey pulls into the corner so she doesn't see him)

    SPIDEY:

O-O-O! I have to take care of myself here in the corner!

    WICKY:

    Why do you say that?

    SPIDEY:

Dessy's in the barn right now.

    JEANNA:

So what's the problem, Spidey? She's not going to eat you.

    SPIDEY:

Yes, it won't. You're right, Jeanne. But last night I had a terrible dream.

    JEANNA.

    A terrible dream?

    WICKY

What kind of dream now? It's strange that spiders dream vividly.

    SPIDEY:

I dreamed that Dessy and Master Demetriso brought a hundred brooms as cleaning cobwebs. All the brooms were in rainbow colors. And I dreamed that they cleaned up all the cobwebs in the barn
