Finding Joy in Simple Pleasures - Joneen M. Horton
Dedication
I dedicate this book to my sons Christopher, who showed me how to play with the wind and Michael, who, at the age of 4, showed me the true beauty of a rose and the wisdom in enjoying Simple Pleasures.
Introduction
As a child, every day Michael wanted to look at the roses in the front yard as we were going to and from the house; and every day I would say, No, we have to go.
or Hurry up we have to get in the house.
One day, he stomped his foot and said, no I want to see!
When did I stop looking at the roses? When did my life get so busy and everything else so important that I couldn’t just stop and look at how pretty a rose is?
Growing up we had roses growing in our back yard and I would spend hours walking through the yard looking at the all the types of roses. I loved doing that as a kid, so when did I lose that fascination with everything around me? Michael has such exuberance for life - everything is fascinating every bug, blade of grass, tree leaf, and weed. Once we were at his school and he saw a 4-foot palm tree and he stared at it and then he touched it and said, I always wanted to touch the leaves on a tree, but they were all too tall.
Then he closed his eyes and let the breeze blow the fronds across his face. Priceless. I knew that at his young age, he didn’t have anything to worry about; but the simple truth is God wants us all to be like that. Not to worry and to come to Him as a child; to only labor to enter His rest.
Day 1 Making Memories
Simple Pleasure: Spending time with someone you care for…simple quality time.
Busy, busy, busy. With all the technology and convenience items we have, we haven’t figured out how to create more time. What’s the remedy to not enough time? Making memories.
Take the 24 hours you are granted and carve out time with someone you care for, no distractions…quality time with a loved one. If your relationship is long-distance call or video chat; or consider writing a letter. Make memories, maximize
