    Famously Flawed - Katana Collins

    Chapter One

My feet pounded against the soft, sandy beach as the cerulean waves crashed on the shore. The salty spray of the Mediterranean air misted my sweat-covered skin as the hot sun beat on my shoulders.

I slowed my pace as my watch beeped, speaking to me. Mile 3, the automated voice said. Twenty-eight minutes and seven seconds.

Beside me, Pierce slowed as well, grabbing a water bottle and taking a long drink of water. I stared at him, in awe of my life right now.

One week ago, I was standing on an altar, under an arch of peonies in a white gown about to say ‘I do’ to a man who was cheating on me… and now? Now I was on my honeymoon with the famous movie star Pierce Whitley who I met on the ferry to Croatia.

    He was kissing me.

Making love to me every night.

    But only for one week.

We had told each other we would have this one week together before we both had to go back to our real world lives in LA where he attended red carpet events in couture and I taught second graders who usually caught my cardigans with their markers.

And we had two nights left before we had to leave the island.

I studied him as he guzzled the water, then poured some over his face and hair to cool off. His chiseled jaw, peppered with just the perfect amount of auburn stubble, despite the fact that the full head of silky jaw-length hair was chestnut brown. Bright blue eyes opened and caught me staring as he handed what was left of the water to me.

God, I love it here, he said, his chest heaving with the heavy breaths he took.

Mm. Me too. I stared wistfully at the ocean, as I had every day from our hotel room suite. Or rather, his hotel room suite where we’d spent most of our time. If I could stay here forever, I would.

    So… let’s do it.

I blinked as his words sunk in. Let’s do what?

    Stay. Here.

I snorted a laugh, then immediately covered my laugh with my palm when I saw how intense his expression was. You’re serious?

He shrugged a shoulder to his ear noncommittally. Not forever… but we could move our plane tickets. Stay an extra week… or so.

I narrowed my eyes and dragged my thumb across his bottom lip, studying his face closely. He immediately nuzzled into my palm and moaned as he pressed a kiss to my skin.

He hadn’t shared a lot with me about his home life… about fame. About why he was here in Croatia and what he was running away from despite the fact that I’d bared my soul to him these last few days.

I confided in Pierce. I told him all about my failed six-year relationship with James—how we got engaged because it felt like it was time, not because it was right. And how he left me at the altar after cheating on me with his ex-girlfriend.

And yet, all I knew about Pierce was pretty much what I could read on TMZ. That he had auditioned for the latest Ash Livingston movie and didn’t get the part and apparently came here to lick his wounds.

Although, he didn’t seem all that broken up on the outside, I could tell he was by the way he avoided the topic. By the way his eyes crinkled, just the slightest bit whenever it was brought up. And how I would find him searching on his phone about the film.

I’m supposed to be back at work on Tuesday, I whispered. My fingernails scraped his stubble like Velcro.

He sighed and closed his eyes before taking my hand and tugging me against him. We fell in step with each other as we walked into our hotel lobby, heading back up to the penthouse.

What if we kept seeing each other?

I blinked, surprised, turning to stare at Pierce. Back in LA? He only nodded as an answer, waiting for my response.

I liked Pierce… a lot. He was smart and funny and talented and God, was he sexy. But we were in a bubble here in Croatia. And I had no idea if we would work in the real world. I… I don’t know, I answered honestly. Don’t get me wrong… I really like you.

He gave a small, defeated laugh; just the tiniest exhale of air. "Like me, huh?" He said it like it was a bad thing
