This story is fiction and fantasy. And any similarity to real people or events are coincidental.

    This story is completely fiction.

Chapter 8. Odile. Vsemila. Runian Queendom, Capital of Runia. Year 2123 After the Appearance of the Oracle. Odile's Dream About a Gloomy Future, Which is a Complete Dystopia, or to Put it More Simply: ‘Full Darkness and Decay’... And Vsemila, who Fell into Odile's Dream

It was the middle of June. A month has passed since Odile learned of Odette's death, which everyone claimed had happened a year ago.

She tried to check Odette's social media pages, but they were all blocked. And all the messages in their correspondence over the past year have been deleted. The history of calls to the friend on Odile's mobile phone has also mysteriously disappeared. When trying to get through to Odette's mobile phone, an automatic answer followed that this number was blocked.

Also, the girl had to additionally visit her psychologist, Ms. Mary, and discuss this issue with her. (And besides that, she also visited the psychologist a few days ago for the previously scheduled appointment for June 15th.)

Ms. Mary advised Odile to visit Odette's grave. She did indeed call her friend's parents to find out more about it. The mother of the mermaid was not surprised: according to her, she remembered how Odile had a hard time with the death of Odette. Therefore, it is not surprising that the girl, out of grief, forgot where her friend was buried.

As a result, Odile, indeed, found the grave of her friend at the indicated place. This shocked her to the core. But the words and statements of those around her were against her, and she involuntarily had to accept the bitter new truth. She had to believe that her friend was dead. But at the same time, she had a feeling that everyone around her was wrong. But at the same time, for some reason, they sincerely believe in what is happening. And the grave in the cemetery is fake.

But in order not to aggravate the situation and not to disturb her parents even more, Odile pretended to believe in the death of her friend and accept it.

Other than that, life went on as usual. Odile made several profitable artworks, and was able to quickly and well make money on them.

Donut, as always, pecked at her feet. She still had strange dreams, watched anime, played computer games, and panicked from reading the news.

So on this day, reading the latest news, she screamed in horror:

Mom! Have you seen the news on Meganet?

Which ones exactly? There are a lot of them! mother's voice came from the next room. As usual, they were too lazy to take their butts off the computer chairs. Therefore, it is easier to shout from room to room.

The one! Parliament still passed a law on raising the retirement age! Now for both men and women the age is sixty-eight!

Prior to that, the age was six-five for women, and sixty-six for men. The law on the new increase in the age was discussed for a long time, but in the end it was nevertheless passed, thanks to the unanimous vote of the Ministerial Party. In the Monarchy Party and the Utopian Party, the voices were divided. Someone was in favor of passing the law, citing the fact that the average life expectancy in the Runian Queendom has increased, and according to official statistics, people have become generally healthier. And reform is needed in order to distribute pension payments more fairly. After all, the bulk of pension payments were made from the state budget. This has been the case since the days of the United Unia. Since then, several reliable non-state pension funds have appeared, but few people used their services. Simply because they weren't trusted (even though the funds have done well). And, the reform concerned, of course, payments from the state budget. If a person makes contributions to a non-state pension fund, then this is the responsibility of that person.

Opponents of the new reform argued that it is difficult for people of pre-retirement age to find a job, and they most often fall under layoffs (formally, this is illegal, but employers created such conditions for employees that they were forced to quit themselves). And according to opponents of the reform, if the law on raising the age is passed, the situation will worsen even more.

Let it seem that it is a little, but in fact it is very serious! It is darkness and decay! Odile was outraged.

What are you angry about? mother asked her. I’m still far from retirement, and even more so for you!

"Oh yeah! Something tells me that if I live to old age, by then retirement will be canceled altogether! Or they will make the age for entering it a hundred years... Or they will advertise euthanasia! Like: The right to retire at seventy-five is only for people who have signed a social contract with the Queendom for voluntary euthanasia at eighty!

Hmm… You need to write dystopian novels... mom replied skeptically.

Fr! commented Donut, who at that time was lying on the carpet in the corridor with his tummy up.

Mom! How does this relate to dystopian novels? as it is known, the level of trust in the government of Odile was even lower than that of her parents.

It relates to them that you can write a good dystopia! Very dystopian! You can write there about euthanasia, and about the analogue of Iliad, and about everything else!

Mom, why are you reacting so calmly?

Because you exaggerate too much. The age, of course, was raised, but what you are talking about will never come true!

    Why are you so sure?

Because the retirement age is being raised all over the world. Albeit slowly, but the average life expectancy of people on Earth is also growing. And in this regard, people's health is also improving. Recently, in Meganet, it was written in a medical article that in the future, seventy years will become the new forty!

What? Odile did not understand. She rarely read medical news.

I mean that in the future, people in their seventies will feel about the same as they feel in their forties. And the average life expectancy will also increase, mom replied calmly.

But her daughter did not share her optimism:

Why are you so calm? It's a disaster! Darkness and decay! Full of darkness and decay! In the future, euthanasia will definitely be legalized for those who want to receive at least five years of old-age pension!

Listen — start writing dystopian novels! In medical articles in Meganet it is written that creativity has a positive effect on the psychological state! Maybe it will help you deal with your anxiety?

    I already take antidepressants!

Oh, right… They are prescribed for you for insomnia… sometimes, the girl's mother was absent-minded.

Fr! Donut lying on the carpet in the corridor suddenly jumped up and began to run around the apartment. The tramp of his small feet was clearly audible, as if a small elephant was running.
