    According to the Global Statshot Report, today more than 6 out of 10 people on Earth are connected to the web. In detail, internet users have grown by more than 330 million in the last year.

    As a result of increased access to the internet, more than 500 million new users were registered on social media platforms in the last 12 months, meaning the number of users has increased by an average of more than 1.4 million per day , most of them Chinese.

    Internet users between the ages of 16 and 64 say that WhatsApp is their favorite social media platform. Facebook is second in the ranking, with almost 22%, while Instagram is in third place, with 18.4%. Thus, the three main platforms of Facebook represent more than two thirds (67.9%) of the global favorites.

    At a general level, the typical user of social networks says that they actively use more than 6 platforms each month.

    If the internet went down for one day, 200 billion emails would stop being sent and more than 3 billion Google searches would be put on hold.

    More than 200 million emails are sent every day, but 70% of them are spam.

    Approximately 300 thousand internet sites are hacked daily.

    A bit of its origin

    The idea of the internet dates back to the 1900s when scientists and engineers imagined the possibility of transmitting information through technology. But it wasn't until the 1960s that JCR Licklider of MIT thought of the Intergalactic Network for computers. Shortly after, the ARPANET (Network of Advanced Research Project Agencies) was created, the first functional system.
