1. EUROPE IS NOT A CONTINENT
There is no division between Europe and Asia, and for this reason together they make up a large continental mass called Eurasia. Despite the non-geological differentiation, there is a strong geographic and socio-cultural barrier, this division makes sense even if it is the same continent.
2. THE LANGUAGES OF EUROPE
Within Europe, 23 official languages are recognized and more than 60 non-official languages that correspond to indigenous or minority groups. Languages that come from migratory currents from other continents can be added to the list.
3. THE COUNTRIES OF EUROPE
Europe has changed hundreds of thousands of times: different wars and conquests made the countries vary permanently. Currently 51 European states are known, including some countries that are in Asia although they are considered European, such as: Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Armenia and Cyprus.
4. THE LARGEST AND SMALLEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD
The largest and the smallest country in the world are in Europe; Russia occupies 37% of the European territory, and is also the largest country in the world. Vatican City, for its part, is the smallest country in Europe and the world, it has only 0.44 square kilometers, something like two athletics tracks together.
5. DISNEY IS THE MOST VISITED PLACE IN EUROPE
Did you know that there is a Disney World in the city of Paris? Believe it or not, this is the most visited place in Europe.
6. THERE ARE ALSO JUNGLES IN EUROPE
Suddenly you think that this is impossible, but in Europe there are also jungles, or at least that is how some specialists understand it. Perucica, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, is one of the last jungle-like territories in Europe, although some argue that it is a forest. Good to know that there are still places like these!
7. IN EUROPE THE VILLAGE WITH THE LONGEST NAME IN THE WORLD IS FOUND
Specifically in Wales, in the United Kingdom, there is a town with the longest name in the world: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
can you read it?
8. THE OLDEST COUNTRY
Bulgaria is the oldest country in Europe: the Bulgarians established their own kingdom in 681 and have not changed their name since then.
9. THE LARGEST ISLAND IN THE WORLD
Greenland is the largest island in the world, 84% of its surface is covered with ice and its capital is Nuuk. Greenland is an autonomous territory belonging to the Kingdom of Denmark.
10. Europe has the town with the longest name in the world
town with the longest name in the world
It is located in Wales and the name in question is none other than Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.
Try saying it, it's really complicated, right? So much so that the town's website even includes a section to tell us how to pronounce it.
Although to make things easier the town is signposted as Llanfairpwllgwyngyll and is known by the locals as Llanfairpwll or Llanfair. PG According to its history, collected on its own website, before acquiring this huge name, it was known as Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll, which in Welsh comes to say something like 'The church of Mary by the pond near the White Hazels'.
It was not until 1850 with the development of the railway that the name change took place. The town sought to become a benchmark that would make travelers stop at it and thus help its development. It was then that in a local committee one of the members proposed the change of name. The brilliant idea is said to be attributed to a shoemaker in the Menai Bridge region. Back then, that man came up with a brilliant marketing plan that continues to this day.
14.In Hungary never toast with beer
Toasting at celebrations or social gatherings is a very common custom in many countries. In general, in all of them it is not well seen to clink glasses with non-alcoholic beverages. But in Hungary it is not toast with beers either.
The reason is said to date back to 1848. At that time, Hungary was unsuccessfully trying to gain independence from the Austrian empire. Every time they achieved a victory it was common to find the Austrians toasting with beer. The nationalist sentiment means that in Hungary, toasting with beer still reminds us of these past times and is not well received.
15. There are areas in Europe where humans have not entered
Forest
These are primary forests, extensions of virgin and wild forests where ecological processes still follow a natural dynamic. It is hard to believe that man has never set foot inside, but as such, these primary forests are characterized by showing no signs of human activity in them.
This was commented in a press release by the ecologist at the University of Humboldt, Francesco Maria Sabatini, lead author of the research tasked with developing the first maps of primary forests in Europe. A study that revealed, by the way, positive data, discovering that these wooded regions are more frequent in the old continent than previously thought. The investigation managed to detect more than 13,759 kilometers in 34 European countries, a finding that was published in the journal Diversity & Distributions in May 2018.
These virtually intact
forests are unsurprisingly found in remote areas and are fragmented into small patches. The most prominent area is found in the mountain systems and especially on the Scandinavian border.
Of all of them, the Perućica
Nature Reserve in Bosnia or the impressive primeval forests of the Puszcza Bialowieska in Poland, are some of the oldest, largest and most virgin rainforests left in Europe.
16. In Switzerland, the law states that certain pets have the right to regular contact with other animals of their species
Swiss law pays special attention to pets, ensuring the dignity of animals present in the country's homes. And it does so to such an extent that it highlights the importance that certain types of
