Tornadoes are one of the scariest things on the planet because they happen suddenly, cause a massive amount of destruction, and then leave without a trace (except for the dust and debris left behind).
While many tornadoes don't cause extensive damage, those that form near cities and residential areas can be incredibly destructive. Though scientists don't know how to stop or control tornadoes, they do understand how they form and what conditions to look out for. Here's some insight into how tornadoes work.
