    Iput down my red-tinted brush as I frown at my half-finished painting of a bright red cardinal sitting on top of a snow-covered pine tree.

    I've been trying to get this painting done for months now, but I can't seem to be able to actually finish it. It's frustrating. I've been getting discouraged, but I'm trying to remain somewhat positive. I think the stress of everything is just really getting to me.

    My wife, Natalie, and I have been going through a rough patch. Her disinterest in me seems to be growing with each day that passes.

    I feel like it's only time before she finally decides to leave me. Ever since the car accident, it's like we're not even married anymore, just co-existing alongside each other. We never talk, and I hardly see her anymore. The resentment towards me is permanently written on her face. I can't remember the last time I made her smile.

    The messed-up thing is that we should be so in love right now.

    Natalie is eight months pregnant with our baby girl. We were so excited. Her name is going to be Layla Jane, after her grandmother.

    I was really involved in the first part of the pregnancy. I went to every single appointment, I rubbed Natalie's aching feet every night, and I even read books to Layla. We read Goodnight Moon  the most.

    Now everything is different. She doesn't tell me when any of the appointments are, and she has shut me out completely. It's really breaking me that things are falling apart when everything should be coming together.

    I just want my daughter to grow up with two parents who love each other. I'm starting to feel like that's never going to happen.

    I LOOK AT THE CLOCK, and it's ten after three, which means Natalie should be home from work any minute.

    I begrudgingly get up from my stool and walk over to the small round window overlooking the driveway.

    It's perfect timing because I see her metallic gray Honda Civic pull in. She opens the door and carefully steps out, her bright yellow ballet flats crunching the vibrant array of scattered leaves as she makes her way to the front of
