    Note

All Scripture is from the King James Bible unless otherwise noted because this is the Bible that the Mormons use. Interestingly, the doctrines of the Mormon faith digress considerably from the Holy Bible texts and have added to the Holy Bible texts.

Please note that Mormons have their own publishing companies, and the higher authorities or Mormon Church constantly change scriptures, laws, prophecies, doctrines, etc., at will to fit their agenda or needs. In the same way, many other cults will change their doctrines.

The Holy Bible does not change its doctrines despite thousands of translations and 2,000 years later!

A Very Important Letter to Our Lord Jesus

    Dear Jesus:

My hope and prayer are that people around the world reading this book never see me, Lord, but see You, Lord Jesus. I initially thought not to give my name as the author, nor did I wish to publish my photo as the book’s author, but You showed me I needed to include my name and photo to bear testimony of You.

Lord Jesus, You recall that in 2005, it was prophesied to me that I would write these books. I wrote these books out of obedience and love for You, Lord Jesus. Let every word glorify Your holy name, not mine.

Let every soul touched by reading this book Lord, give You honor and pluck them out of hell into Your loving arms in Heaven. Lord Jesus, never let us lose sight of You. Amen.

    In His service,

    A Letter to Our Readers

Thank you, Lord, for choosing me to write this book out of millions of people on this Earth. I present this book to You, Father God. I am but a simple servant following Your will.

God has chosen you at this moment to read this particular book. He wants to bring you into a personal relationship with Him. Are you ready?

First, I need to impart a very real truth and a warning from God Himself. Knowing that humans have free will, God lovingly reminds us about the grand authority and sovereignty of His Word.

If you are a Mormon, temple-going Mormon, ex-Mormon, Excommunicated Mormon, active Mormon Missionary, or Mormon Christian, you may have had many questions about the Mormon faith unanswered.

Mormons believe that when they die and go to Heaven, they will have many wives and create many more earths, with many more children who will replenish the earth.

In contrast, God’s true plan is that He created humans to have a relationship with Him on one earth, one wife or husband, and have children in a marriage relationship on Earth, not in Heaven, for there are no marriages in heaven (Mark 12:25).

It is my prayer that this book will guide you along with the Holy Spirit if you humble your heart in prayer to what is the truth of God and what God set on Earth.

    Foreword

Hearing the author’s account of how he grew up in the Mormon faith but had questions even as a small child—questions that were not answered—was the major impetus for me to come on board as his editor.

Mormonism Debunked is really a platform for Mr. Constantine Nightingdale to discuss and share what he now knows about the Mormon Faith. Even as a small child, he felt something was amiss and had questions about his grandparents’ and parents’ faith.

It was my pure Hawaiian grandmother and Hungarian grandfather (he belonged to the 70s leadership) from Pennsylvania that made the most impact on me as a child to become a Mormon and go on a Mormon mission for two years with the plan to eventually become a bishop, explained Nightingdale.

As a Mormon, I was always looking at my ‘works’ to get to Heaven. However, true Christianity teaches that it isn’t anything you do on Earth that will earn you eternity in Heaven. You can say ten prayers a day, be president of a company, serve in every Mormon church position, etc., but none of this will get you to Heaven!

Nightingdale continues, "As a Christian, I learned that I stood on God’s grace and not on my works as what Mormons believe can be a way to earn your way into Heaven. As a true Christian, I am no longer in the bondage of works but set free by Jesus Christ’s grace extended to me when Christ died on the cross for my sins and the sins of the world."

If you have any doubt about a doctrine, tenet, or idea—ask questions and conduct research for yourself.

To be inquisitive and have an innate desire within allows all humanity to learn and grow—and share meaningful information and ideas with each other.

Imagine for a moment that you were told certain things about your existence and purpose in life, and out of respect for your parents or elders, you went along with the program, but some of the ideas seemed lacking or contrived or strange—so the natural curiosity that you’re born with compels you to ask questions—questions which were not really answered?

To be able to ask questions and research an idea, person, place, or thing is likened to an unalienable right to know and understand things in life as a free agent with free will, which God had created within each and every one of us.

If one is indoctrinated into a belief system that cannot be questioned by its followers—then this is no longer free will. Indoctrination of any kind stunts growth and the ability of human beings to thrive within their highest potential. Truth can always be tested for accuracy, and witnesses are extremely important.

Author Nightingdale has a life rich indeed with myriad experiences—from charitable organizations and health care in the Hawaiian Islands to expertise as a culinary Chef in the U.S. Navy—world evangelism is what’s in his heart. Nightingdale has traveled throughout the United States and abroad, which gave him first-hand experience learning about different people and other cultures.

This author has a passion for God and truth and continually educates himself on what it means to be a Christian in the modern world. Having an incredible heart to share with others so that they, too, be given an opportunity to see for themselves what is true in meaningful terms is one of the objectives of this book. Meaningful truth may be applied to your life as well as your loved ones, and this directly affects the quality of life and living—passed on to the next generation.

I would like to invite you to prepare yourself with an open mind and heart as you read this book and discover or rediscover what the author has to share about his life experience in leaving the Mormon faith to become a born-again Christian.

May you come away blessed after reading this book.

    —Charene D., Editor

If you have friends or family who are members of or preparing to join the Mormon Church or any other cult, this book is for you!

If you are a Christian and seek to know more about the Christian Faith, or if you are an atheist or belong to another religion and are interested in what this book has to say about Mormonism vs. Christianity, this book is for you as well.

This book is for you to read, study and have on hand to answer questions from Mormon missionaries or family members who are Mormons or thinking about becoming Mormons.

Do you feel a void in your life? Do you feel something is missing? Settle in and take some time to read and seriously consider this book. I authored this book with over forty years of references and experiences and wrote it in a simple way for people to understand. Read these pages repeatedly and pray about what you read. The Authentic Holy Spirit will testify to you personally about the truth of all the religions or denominations on this Earth. Let the Holy Spirit show you which the Holy Trinity set up.

Do not be fooled by imitations or false prophets! Do not allow yourself to be deceived by doctrines that seek to replace the truth and are hence only imitations of the real thing.

When reading this book, you must be honest with yourself. Is God a stranger in your house? Do you have a personal relationship with God? Do you have a close friend or family member who is searching? From the beginning to the end of the Bible, God is constantly talking to His children. Do you talk and walk with God daily? Do the people in your house know and understand God? Are you reading the Bible daily, and do you understand what the Bible is saying to you?

This book will help answer questions you have stored in your heart and mind about the truth of God and Mormonism. Through it, you will see that only God can answer questions about God, and He does it in His Word, His only true Word, the Bible (See 2 Peter 1:19–21).

We need God’s help in our search for a church based upon a true foundation. That foundation must be God. It cannot be something created or edited by a mere man. Philippians 2:13 (KJV) says,

For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do His good pleasure.

In John 6:44 (KJV), Jesus tells us,

No man can come to me, except the Father [God] which hath sent me draw him; and I will raise him up at the last day.

These Scriptures tell us that when you attempt to obtain salvation through any means other than Jesus Christ, you cannot enter God’s heavenly kingdom.

One way of looking at it is that God so loved the world and humanity, us, that He created an eternal existence for us if we choose to be with Him. Salvation is exclusive, and its provision is a by-product of free will, which God has also given us.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

    (Matthew 6:33 KJV)

Seek God first, not a religion or a denomination. Read and search for the truth first and foremost by reading the Bible. When you are stumped or need someone else’s input, first make sure they actually know the Bible! And, of course, you can use supplemental or commentary books like this one and other books that you might find at your local Christian bookstore. There are also thousands of online references; some are listed in the appendices at the back of this book.

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

    (Proverbs 3:5–6 KJV)

What people tell you about any religion doesn’t matter. Which denomination you were born into doesn’t matter. Even your own understanding doesn’t matter. Get on your knees in prayer. Read the Bible. Research what you are reading. God, Himself, will tell you what the foundational truth is.

Seriously. God will hold you accountable. Right now, before you read any more, stop and ask the Holy Spirit to show you the simple foundational truth as you read this book.

The primary purpose of this book is to provide you with independent information to help you determine if the Mormon Church can truthfully be called a Christian Church. I will compare the Mormon Church with its doctrines and rituals to the Bible. I will give some examples of the problems I see with the Mormon religion. For instance, the foundation of the church includes things like polygamy and racism. Additionally, the Mormon Church’s chain of command or authority does not follow the Bible, even though Joseph Smith claimed he was called to purify the existing Christian Church.

Many believe that the Book of Mormon is the most correct of any book on Earth—without even checking the facts and offering any debunking to those who would like to take an in-depth look at the history, foundation, doctrines, and tenets of Mormonism

Mormons call themselves Christians, but are they true Christians according to the Bible? In this book, I will show you that Joseph Smith did not base the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS) or Mormons on a good biblical foundation but instead just copied some of the doctrines from the Bible. Without the biblical foundation, no church can be a Christian church. It is like building a home. No matter how well you put together the floors, walls, and ceilings, without a firm foundation, it will soon just be an old shack, unable to give real protection to the people who live within.

The LDS Church employs four books in their faith: The Bible (King James Version), The Book of Mormon, The Doctrine of Covenants, and The Pearl of Great Price. Interestingly, although five billion copies of the Bible have been sold around the world (since 2020), their adherents claim that only the Bible is considered to have corruption! So, the adherents took the liberty to change (add to or subtract from) the Bible.

On the other hand, Christian Churches like Baptist, Pentecostal, Assembly of God, Methodist, and many others (see the list on the following pages) build upon a firm foundation. They teach the fundamental truth that the Bible is the true and unchangeable Word of God and that only through the Holy Spirit can anyone become a Christian.

I will explain some of the history of the Christian Church. I will show why churches like the Calvary Chapel, Assemblies of God, Pentecostal, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Mennonite, Seventh-day Adventist (Protestant), Presbyterian, United Church of Christ (not to be confused with Church of Christ or Church of Jesus Christ), Charismatics, Nazarene, and other kinds of churches can indeed call themselves Christian. I will also explain why they do not accept the LDS or Mormons as Christians or born again in Christ. Instead, they understand that the Mormon religion is a cult.

The true Christian Church has the foundation of Jesus Christ, referred to in 1 Corinthians 3:10–13—the only foundation that lasts for all eternity. There may be minor doctrinal differences relating to personalities, sociology, and other areas that make us individuals, but they all stick to the basic foundational truths:

    All men are born sinful.

Jesus Christ is wholly God and man, born of a virgin.

The Trinity consists of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit—Separate yet equal. Think of how God created the butterfly, which science cannot explain because it doesn’t fit the model of survival of the fittest and stumps atheists and those who embraced Darwinism.

    Egg

    Larvae (caterpillar)

Pupa (chrysalis), at first, is liquid pulp.

    Adult Butterfly emerges.

Scripture is the unchangeable Word of God. We obtain salvation only through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. We all have eternal life through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The following are some examples (not a complete list) of true foundational Christian Churches which God has set up on the Earth:

Pentecostal—originated in Los Angeles in the twentieth century.¹

Presbyterian—originated in Scotland in the sixteenth century.²

Baptist—originated in Europe in the seventeenth century.³

Methodist—originated in Britain by John Wesley in the eighteenth century.

The Protestant Reformation began in Wittenberg, Germany, on October 31, 1517.

Lutheran—originated in Germany in the sixteenth century by Martin Luther.

Nazarene—was founded in October 1895 in Los Angeles, CA.

Charismatic Church—began on April 3, 1960, when Dennis J. Bennett, rector of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Van Nuys, CA, recounted his Pentecostal experience.

Seventh Day Adventists—started in the 1830s–1840s during the period of the Second Great Awakening, the Millerite movement.

Calvary Chapel—Chuck Smith, founder in Costa Mesa, CA, in 1965.

In this book, I elaborate on what these churches, religions, or denominations have in common, why they fit in the Christian Community, and why the Mormon Church does not.

But if there are so many true Christians, why is there so much confusion about Christianity? Because when the Gospel (the Bible) is preached, satan tries to mislead people’s understanding, so they misunderstand God’s message. That is why there are so many religions on this Earth. The Bible tells us repeatedly that satan will do all he can to deceive people and pervert the truth of the Word (2 Thessalonians 2:9–10; 2 Corinthians 4:3–4).

    _______________________________________________

God moves in a village, tribe, community, location, city, state, province, wherever He needs to be on this planet Earth, wherever there are people. God will move His Spirit among the people with signs, wonders, and miracles! Man moves people with ceremonies, rituals, and traditions, which sometimes douses God’s movement of the Holy Spirit, much like water from a firehose will douse a fire and put it out.

The Holy Spirit fire of the Lord is the kind of fire you want under your feet and surrounding you as much as possible in these times.

If you are following your own ways and not God’s ways, please read Isaiah 55:8 and Romans 8:28.

    _______________________________________________

The devil is a deceiving liar and accuser. The word devil comes from the Greek word diabolos, the same word that gave us diabolical.¹⁰ In the Bible, you will find the word devil used over thirty times in connection with the deceiver misleading people from the foundational truth or into a wrong religion. The devil’s main goal is to make you doubt, deny, disobey God and confuse your understanding (Revelation 20:6–9). The devil is the king of dishonesty (2 Corinthians 11:2–4). The devil is perverting the right ways of God (Acts 13:9–11).

On the other hand, all of God’s words are true (Psalm 119:160). If you allow Him to, God will examine your heart as you read this book. Open your heart to God’s ways, not the devil’s ways, not your ways or man’s ways. God is the creator of this world, not satan nor man. You should listen to God. God made the rules, not us.

Are you ready for the foundational truth, or do you want to keep living the way you have and not understand what God truly has in store for your life? (1 Thessalonians 2:11–13). We cannot serve two masters, the Mormon Church and Jesus Christ.

No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

    (Luke 16:13 KJV)

Open your heart as He uncovers the false teachings that you have learned to believe as true up to this point, and receive His truth for you and your family. It’s like the door to your home. When you open the door, you let someone in, but when you keep the door closed, you prevent someone from entering.

When a family member, friend, or co-worker enters your house, they have the authority from you to enter, but if a drug dealer, homeless person, etc., try to enter your house, you won’t let them in. Why? Because they don’t have the proper authority. It’s like that with God—Mormons, Buddhists, Hindus, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Atheists, and Scientology do not have the proper authority of God!

Therefore, as a Christian, you are baptized in the Holy Spirit with proper authority from God, and every non-Christian is not. If you are not baptized in the Holy Spirit upon accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you may very well be serving in your church in vain! You are in bondage when you refer to the Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, and Doctrines and Covenants.

I encourage you to open the door of your heart and let God show you His way for your life. People spend time and energy acquiring a nice house, car, expensive clothing, watches, electrical appliances, and the like—but they may forget about God and what He desires for them.

For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

    (Matthew 16:26 KJV emphasis mine)

However, people, Mormons and non-Mormons, will tell you not to read this book. They will tell you it wastes your time and money and tell you different stories than what is written in this book.
