During the 60s and 70s I was in a variety of bands, ranging from blues to country to rock & roll. Those were some very wild and rough times for me, but God saw me through all of that for a time such as this. The rest of the story: In 1986 I was working for a major retail chain in Fayetteville, Ga., just south of Atlanta, as Assistant Manager. On a certain day in January of that year, I decided to take a quick break and watch TV with some of my workers, mostly ladies. My section of the store included House wares and Health & Beauty Aids. Some of the ladies enjoyed my watching Days of Our Lives with them. On the way to the break room I grabbed a candy bar to snack on while enjoying the Soap Opera with the ladies. In a few minutes, (the best way I can describe it) my world literally turned upside down. I began vomiting violently and could not walk nor stand. My hearing began to fluctuate. I did not know what was going on with me. However, I thought at the time I was having the worse case of food poisoning since the dawn of creation. Someone had to drive me home and for the rest of that day and most of the night I was violently ill and could barely hear. I was able to call the store the next evening to get someone to pull the candy bars off the shelf, thinking they were tainted. What was really going on in my body was definitely not food poisoning, but it would be ten years before I would find out. What happened to me during those two days would lay low and not happen again until 1996. In 1995, after getting saved “again for the first time”, I immediately took an interest in Spiritual Warfare. I had also given up the colleges and night clubs and was part of my church’s Praise Team, along with my two brothers. We were born with the gift of music and wanted to give it back to God. My two brothers are still on the Praise Team; however, I had to step down about five years ago. More on that later. Anyway, I wanted to write a book centered on Spiritual Warfare, but I wanted my book to be more of a novel and not another “how to” book. They’re plenty of those already on the shelves. I began praying about it and as I thought I was hearing from God, I would take notes. In late 1995 I had a composition book full of notes, so I began writing my first novel, The Lamb and the Dragon. Early in 1996, while returning home from taking some young boys to Fun World in Albany, Ga. , I had another very severe attack of vertigo and vomiting. My friend had to drive the rest of the way home while trying to comfort the fellows with us and tell them it was okay. He took me home and for the rest of the day I was sick beyond description. My episode was worse than the one I had ten years earlier. At this point, the vertigo and hearing fluctuation episodes were more severe and intense, and were happening every day. I literally could not function. After seeing six doctors, by mid 1996 I was diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease, which affects hearing and balance. Every day for many years all I could was lay in the bathroom floor until it was over, then go to bed and sleep it off, only to have it happen again the next day. To add to my frustration, I could no longer write, so right after beginning my book, I had to stop. By 2008 I became unhirable and by 2009, I filed for early social security. In 2010 I had major surgery inside my left ear and had to resign from the Praise Team. As you might know, bad hearing is lethal in the music business. In 2011, on recommendation from my doctors, I filed for Disability; so far I have been turned down. Our government is quick to take and slow to give back. In 2013 I was well enough to finish writing my novel. Eighteen years from start to finish! It was published in January of 2014, and has been very successful so far. The sequel, Pam Smith and the Phantom Church, was published in 2017. After a lot of praying, I have to remember the bottom line: God knows and I don’t know. However, through using the Three Ps: Prayer, Pursuit, Perseverance, I am still writing. There is no cure for my disorder, but there are things I can do to help with the symptoms: surgery, shots in the ear, being hooked up to a machine three times a day, and medication. I’ve done them all! I take it a day at the time and I’m thankful for what the Lord gives me. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, a Master’s in Theology, and a couple other degrees. I am an ordained Minister in two churches. My wife, Christal, and I, are members of Friendship Alliance Church here in Moultrie. We have two “children” at home: a black Tabby cat named Trouble and a yellow cat named Taz. My third novel was published and released about a year ago and Thanks and God Bless, Donny

    FOREWORD

CAIN AND ABEL: THE LAMB AND THE DRAGON III

I met Donny about five years ago on Messenger through a mutual friend, and we immediately became friends. We stay in touch every morning through a group Bible study, which helps us stay connected spiritually.

I read Donny’s first book, The Lamb and the Dragon, and was instantly hooked on his imagination and writing style. He has a vivid way of making his characters seem real and come alive. After reading Donny’s first book I tried to imagine what his next book would be like. Well, his second book, Pam Smith and the Phantom Church blew me away. The characters in his second book were just as believable as the ones in his first one. Like his first book, the theme in the second book is centered around spiritual warfare; good versus evil. An intense page-turner for sure.

Donny broke away from the Lamb and the Dragon series in writing his third novel. His third book, Glowater, is about a man who loses it all: friends, family, everything. He moves south to Florida to begin a new life. He discovers a miniature time machine floating in the waters off the beach in Panama City, Florida. Later, he finds out he has a terminal illness, and he uses his time machine to search for a cure, and learns some valuable life lessons along the way.

Now I want to tell about his latest project, book number four, Cain and Abel: The Lamb and the Dragon III. This book breaks all imagination boundaries! This book is also about the forces of evil that are at work around us. Life is always a war between good and evil, and Donny captures this theme in a very real way. His characters definitely come alive and you feel as though you are right there in the thick of it.

Through his writing and gifted imagination, Donny shows that he has the creative know-how to capture real life through fictional characters. He describes his characters in such as way that the reader believes they are real. He describes the setting in great detail, and he makes the plot very intriguing. The book, Cain and Abel: The Lamb and the Dragon III, is a very entertaining, fantastic story, but with Biblical foundations.

This book is based on the lives of twin brothers who live in Georgia, but their lives are anything but identical. One, Drew, is very shrewd and a bit evil; the other, David, is the sunshine in his mother’s eyes. David’s life is cut short due to a tragedy. Drew lives to be old enough to have political aspirations, and does whatever it takes to rise to the top of the political ladder. Unforeseen circumstances force Drew and his political party to take a stand against the very forces he swore allegiance to.

Whatever avenue of life we are on, whatever spiritual stand we take, Life and its many struggles is always good versus evil. Donny has shown in his latest book that there is a very real realm where the forces of good and evil are warring for our very souls.

I highly recommend this latest work by Donny Pitts and gladly give it a five-star rating.

I initially contacted Donny after learning he had mentioned my store in his second novel, Pam Smith and the Phantom Church. We instantly became friends. After reading his third and now fourth book, I am truly a fan.

His fourth project, Cain and Abel: The Lamb and the Dragon III, is a riveting page-turner. The story is centered around twin brothers, David and Drew; one good and one evil. However, as the story progresses, the evil twin sees the error of his ways and comes to know the Lord. This turnaround seems impossible at first since for Drew since he is in politics. He is a Georgia Senator seeking the Presidency of the United States.

This is an amazing story of how God can work in the lives of men. Definitely worth the read. I give this book a five-star rating.

    PROLOGUE

2042, the same year a law was passed allowing one to be President at thirty years of age.

Well, what do you think, Mike? Drew asks.

Mike gets off the black leather sofa and eases down into the two-tone plush high-back chair next to Drew’s desk.

I think it’s a pity, indeed, Drew, states Mike mater-of-factly.

A pity, huh? Is that all you have to say on the matter? Drew questions.

Since you have decided to go there, I’ll tell you what I really think, Mike asserts.

Number one, I think you should run for President. You have been Governor of this hideous state; congressman; and now senator. You should set higher goals, Mike declares.

Number two, you need to quit listening to you-know-who. I know you get messages, words, or whatever you wish to call it, from him. That needs to stop. He’s giving you bad information," suggests Mike.

And just what makes you think you can differentiate between good and bad information? Drew inquires.

I hear things; I know things; I remember things, Mike admits.

The grapevine is a very good source of both good and bad news, and I know the difference. I’ve been around you people too long, Mike adds.

Hum, murmurs Drew. He is getting a tad agitated at Mike, and Mike can sense the mood.

Well, you asked, Mike throws in for good measure.

Drew leans back in his desk chair and shuffles through a large stack of papers. Mike yawns as if bored to tears. He heads toward the water cooler and gets himself a cool drink.

Drew eyes the incident with the patience of Job as Mike fills a third paper cup with water and slowly drinks, as if going to slow-motion mode.

Does it bother you that I like to take my time when I’m drinking water, and enjoy my water? Mike asks angrily.

Not in the least, Drew says, just before blowing his nose on a white handkerchief.

You have a list of contacts that might be willing to help you move along toward the White House. Why don’t you make a few phone calls today? Mike says unenthusiastically.

Maybe I’ll do just that! I have more pressing issues that need to be dealt with first," Drew answers back, somewhat perturbed. He hates it when Mike seems to have the upper hand.

The phone rings, and Drew puts his right index finger against his lips, glances over at Mike, and then whispers, Shh!

This is Drew, how may I help you?

Yes, sir, that meeting is at 4:00 PM today.

Yes, sir, I have already alerted the necessary personnel to be there early.

That’s right; Jerry Wilson will be heading up the meeting. He knows more about the situation than most. That’s in his field of expertise.

    Mike is getting very bored!

I cannot care any less about your boredom, Drew is thinking. He gazes over at Mike, who is now trimming his fingernails and letting the clippings fall where they may. Drew finally hangs up the phone.

I need you to pick those dirty nail clippings off the floor, Drew instructs Mike.

You have a maid that comes in to clean up, let her do it, Mike informs Drew.

Drew throws Mike an apple from the crystal bowl resting on the end of the oak desk.

I much prefer a nice T-bone, exclaims Mike.

    I like meat, you know?

Suddenly, there is a knock on Drew’s office door. Mike sits very still and says not one word.

    Come in! yells Drew.

It was Ken Cole, Drew’s assistant. Mike cannot stand Ken, and the disdain is very obvious.

Oh, it’s only you, smirks Mike.

Ken gives Mike the raised eyebrow; Mike gives Ken a hideous grin.

"Yes, sir, I have your papers ready for the 4:00 PM meeting, Ken states.

Okay, good. Just lay them on the table over there and I’ll look over them in a few minutes.

    Yes, sir, no problem.

Do you know where the new copier is? Ken inquires.

I can show you, Mike interrupts. Silence.

I guess that will be fine, says Ken.

Mike and Ken walk down the long, dimly-lit hallway.

I know a shortcut we can take, suggests Mike.

Um, I don’t know, Ken mumbles.

It will be fine. Just because I can’t stand your guts does not mean I can’t be courteous to the boss’s Man Friday, grins Mike.

As Ken and Mike turn left, Mike grabs Ken’s hand and throws him inside a closet that is closed off from the rest of the floor. No one knows about this place except Mike and Drew.

Ken’s eyes widen as Mike opens wide to show two rows of long, sharp teeth. Ken’s screams are short-lived, and then become silent gasps as Mike bites down. Ken’s body or what’s left of it, is thrown down a secret shaft, and will soon be lying at the bottom of the Bellwood Park River.

It will be back to business as usual, and no one will be the wiser.

Drew throws a book onto the desk, and the book slides across the top and stops just short of falling to the floor. The book, one of his favorites, is The Infamous Francine DeSoto, by R.E. Stacey, the life story of the notorious female gangster from the 1930s.

Some employees begin to question Ken’s whereabouts, so Drew decides to hold a quick meeting. He meeting goes as follows:

Ken Cole left abruptly due to a serious family matter, Drew tells the group.

He will not be returning. Jerry Wilson is now my assistant. Meeting adjourned!

    GETTING OUT OF UTAH

Well, that was a hurricane! We’ll name this place Hurricane Hills.---Erastus Snow, 1896.

    August 2028

    Hurricane, Utah

Surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in America, lies the Liahona Academy for Troubled Boys. The school’s two most troubled outlaws were Drew Cisco and Ken Cole. They participated in academic classes; they were active in basketball and swimming activities; they participated in group discussions; however, their sole purpose for existence is to escape the clutches of Liahona. At night they make plans to vacate 325 West 600 North.

Liahona Academy has been helping troubled boys, as well as their families, since 2001and is still among the top-rated centers for treatment in the U.S. Liahona’s therapeutic program is based on a balance between discipline and love. The belief at Liahona is that the troubled youngsters can indeed survive in an environment of both love and strict discipline, and that the boys will better respond if they know they are loved and respected. Drew Cisco and Ken Cole thought that idea is just so much crap; they don’t feel loved or respected, and they wanted out. Their only snafu was getting out of and around some of the nation’s largest mountains and canyons.

The Academy provides the highest level of security, but there is no guarantee that the supervision stops all accidents, harm, self-injury, sexual activity, use of drugs, or runaways. Drew and Ken thought it too cool to be known as runaways. Parents are not allowed to speak to their sons until graduation. All the better for the two gangsters!

When Drew and Ken took the Academy’s Self-help test, both boys circled the most negative number: 1. The test questions ranged from 1, the most negative, to 5, the most positive.

Do you respond well to authority? The two boys circled 1.

Do you have a variety of friends? Again, 1.

Do you have a positive self-image? They circled 1 once again.

Do you participate in church activity? The only rational answer was 1.

They grinned sheepishly as they handed in their quizzes.

The landscape in Hurricane, Utah is nestled with almond trees, apricot trees, apple trees, and cherry trees. Hurricane’s low valleys are surrounded by the mountains of Washington County. Hurricane has only 14,000 residents. It is near the Sand Hollow Recreation Area and is approximately one-hundred miles from the north rim of the Grand Canyon.

I have relatives that live near Atlanta, Georgia, admitted Drew.

How is that going to help us? Ken inquired.

My dad’s uncle will do anything I ask; I’m his favorite, said Drew.

Okay, boys, lights out! exclaims the floor guardian.

We will talk later, Drew whispered.

Ken quickly went into a deep sleep; Drew heard the voice again:

Drew, how can you do this? I love you and I want what’s best for you. We all do. Please don’t listen to the evil people; that will only lead to destruction and your personal demise. You have so much going for you. Repent of all your wicked acts and believe. It’s the only way.

Shut up and leave me alone! Drew shouts.
