ABOUT THE BOOK
The Knighthood at Barklaze is a group of men and women that formed their secret society while being students at Boston University. They were always on guard for anything out of the ordinary and continued this tradition as adults. After finishing school, they all decided to move back to their hometown of Rossdale. However, the Knighthood learns there is suspicious activity at the Percy estate as well as criminal associations taking place at the Barklaze bar owned by the Percy family and two other partners. The clock is ticking as the Knighthood must also return the key back to the rightful owners of a treasure from the Kingdom of Japi, India and all before time is frozen back 500 years so the key doesn’t get into the wrong hands.
The Knighthood meet weekly at the Barklaze bar in the town of Rossdale, their mission is to maintain good over evil which gets difficult as the Percy family steps in the way of the Knighthood. The annual Percy family Windemere masquerade ball is coming up and the Knighthood are invited. Fear is also looming in the town, as last year the victim’s body disappeared with a power outage. Who is the next victim?
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I would like to dedicate this novella to my fellow classmates and teachers of Mount Prevost Middle School and Cowichan Secondary High School from Duncan, BC. Especially my grade 7 Social Studies teacher Mr. Nenzi and Grade 8 and 9 Social Studies teacher Mrs. Linda Hughes. I was fortunate enough to be in their advanced placement classes and they taught me European history in a way where I felt I was living during those times. This experience in my life truly gave me the base to creatively write my story. I always look back fondly during this time in my life so thank you so much for being great teachers in my life.
I would also like to thank my parents, my brother, sister, sister-in-law and nephews for all their continued support and patience. A special thank you to Vashal Singh, a great life mentor for me, his ongoing persistence on the importance of personal development posts gave me the desire to write this short story. Sometimes social media is not so bad after all. Finally, I would like to thank all my friends and family for believing in me and for their well wishes.
A very special thank you to family and friends from the city of Edmonton, Alberta. I also want to thank the entire Bolina family for all their support.
Thank you Deepak Minhas for giving me that final push and recommending Caroling Pen Publishing to me. To Shammi and Sherry for believing in me as well as Sabrina Mann, Kajal Dhaneshwari, and Sunny Lamba. I connected with these ladies from Edmonton during the start of the pandemic and they never let me quit on my dream.
Dad, this one’s for you, thank you for taking me to visit your nanke in Dholpur, Rajasthan India. I learned so much about the history of India from that trip back in 2006. India is a great country to visit and learn.
I also want to thank the City of Surrey, you gave me a safe place to live, work and write this book. My mom always says having a safe place to live helps to make things more peaceful in life.
To Starbucks Canada, your coffee never let me give up on myself even when it seemed like the best thing to do.
This writing took place on the unceded traditional territory of three land-based communities: Semiahmoo First Nation, Katzie, and Kwantlen First Nation . Thank you for allowing me to grow and prosper while writing this book.

PROLOGUE
❖
O ver five hundred years ago, the rarest jewels in the world could be found in the Kingdom of Japi, India. One particular set of jewels was located inside the fortress where the King and Queen of Japi lived and these jewels could never be removed. The jewels were passed from one generation to the next under the condition that they always remain in the kingdom and if there was ever a circumstance they were removed or went missing, they had to be returned by January 1, 2022, otherwise, there would be consequences to the world’s time. The King and Queen always took this belief seriously, to them it was never a myth, but a reality and they kept this secret between the two of them as they wanted to protect their kingdom. This condition was passed on by the ancestors of the kingdom and the King and Queen of Japi knew the consequences would affect not only their kingdom but the entire world. The jewels were meant for safekeeping and could not be sold or let greed and evil get in the way.
But not all those serving the court of the kingdom were loyal to the King and Queen of Japi and eventually the treasure of jewels went missing along with the key to the box of treasure. From this point on, the kingdom slowly started to disappear as it was invaded by looters and the king was killed. Slowly the remaining parts of the city were in ruins. And before the Queen died, she whispered to her children to find the key and the treasure as a vow to their father, the kingdom, and their people.
The key and jewels changed many hands and countries after its initial disappearance from the kingdom but the jewels were eventually found and brought back to the original kingdom’s location. But no one could find the key. The myth, the same as the treasure, was that if the key was ever in the wrong hands and greed got in the way there would be consequences to the world and time itself. But how this would affect anyone would yet to be seen?
The King and Queen of Japi wanted to protect the good they intended for their people, but the invasion got in the way of their beliefs.
After the King was killed and the Queen passed on, their children were helpless as the resources of the kingdom became limited and they were left to their own defenses. They tried their best over the years but they were never able to keep the key and the treasure in one place. The King and Queen’s children left the kingdom and no one was ever able to locate them either. These jewels were very special,
