About this ebook

Richard, Kyle, and Devon are roommates through circumstance, not necessarily by choice, but Richard figures he's lucked out, especially with Kyle. They're good friends, like the same books, and don't mind sharing a movie and a joint every now and then.

Everything changes one New Year’s party when Richard and Kyle go beyond the bounds of friendship. Richard isn’t gay, though Kyle is, and the two move past the incident rather quickly, and move on with the rest of their lives.

When their random one-off nights are no longer random, and definitely not one-off any longer, Richard is forced to wonder if he and Kyle should do something more about their developing relationship. When Devon moves out, a chance presents itself to move into something more -- together.

Will Richard and Kyle take it? Or hide behind movies, books, and other people for the rest of their lives?

    My Roommate Kyle

    By Eve Morton

I had to have sex with Kyle three times before I realized I was in love with him.

The first time was nothing to write home about, the kind of thing that sometimes happens between men when they’re drinking and one knows that the other is gay. We were at a New Year’s party our other roommate, Devon, insisted on hosting at our rented place. It was not an apartment, but a house that had been split in two by the landlord and then rented out to the college students in the area.

We had the upstairs part while a group of four women, also college students in the same university though we’d never seen them before, were in the basement. They were nice. Always said hi, always tried to be considerate when they wanted us to quiet down. Devon ended up inviting them to the party, since he figured it would be easier than keeping it down, and they hung out in the kitchen most of the night, three of them together (the fourth was religious or something and always went home, or to bed early), like the witches from Macbeth, all sharing an eyeball as they watched our motley mix of friends talk together, drink too much, smoke a bowl, and then play video games.

We were not the most adventurous party animals. But it was nice, for a time, to think that we were that house, you know? The ones having the party that people could go to, drink in the New Year, and then see what happened.
