About this ebook
I live in a small town. I write about real life and real people. I write about my feelings and the things I've seen. I am writing about my real life. I have been rejected. My life has been unhappy. I am a grandmother now trying to make it on my own. I am telling you my story in the book I have written. It is about real things that have happened in a real life. I have written poems and different things. If you want to read about unhappiness, read this book. To all women: be careful. Don't let your guard down. It could happen to you.

When I was a little girl, we did not have much to eat. We were poor. Daddy had eleven kids. My twin and I were the oldest. I was about five years old when I took care of my brother. I would rock him in an old chair without rockers. I would make the chair go back and forth. When I rocked him, his head would hit my chest over and over. His head hit me so much it made all of my skin come off. I couldn’t even wear a dress. Grandma used to say it was going to kill me, taking care of him all the time. I took care of all my brothers and sisters, except four of them. One time my grandma was coming to visit us on a Sunday, I must have been about three. I was so excited about her coming.
We had a chimney. Mama had water boiling in the fireplace in a can to put the chicken in to clean it. I kicked the can of water over. Mama had wire around the fireplace, but I kicked through the wire and water spilled and ran all over the floor. I fell on the floor. I remember I laid there. My uncle ran to me. He was checking me all over. My feet and legs were burned real badly. Big blisters were all over my feet and legs. I could not walk. My grandma took me and held me in her lap and said a prayer for me. But I did not even cry. It did not hurt anymore. I think she prayed the fire out. That was when people could do things like that.
My grandma is dead now and my grandpa is too. I am fifty years old now but I still have the scars on my legs and feet. When my grandma pulled off my socks my skin and all came off with them. I was about four when Daddy came home. He was drinking, and we wanted something to eat. We were three kids then. We were standing at the old cabinet shaking it, wanting something to eat. That’s where Mama kept the food she cooked and we knew it. Mama said he beat me and my twin until we messed in out panties. It must have bothered Mama. She would tell me about it. She said she should not have let him beat us like that.
Daddy would always let my other sisters go places with him. He would not let me go with him to see his mama. I always felt like he did not like me. I asked mama one time why he didn’t like me. She said she did not know.
My uncle would come to
