Snuggling up to my mum, I wished she could stay with me a little longer.
‘Please read me a story,’ I asked hopefully, trying to suppress a yawn.
‘Sorry, darling,’ she replied. ‘I’ve got work.’
Kissing me on the forehead, she stood up and pulled on her coat.
‘But I’m sure Nigel will read to you,’ she said.
My mood instantly deflated.
