About this ebook

Spread the Word is a simple commentary on the Apostle Paul' s letters to the Corinthians. The Word of God (the Holy Bible) is meant to be utilized by everyone. This work is one woman's interpretation of how Paul's words apply to her life in the twenty-first century. We have a different set of problems to overcome than the people of Paul's era. The Word is for us, and we do not always need a priest, minister, rabbi, or other clergies to explain what God is saying to us. It is the author's intention that the reader will read each chapter, think about how it applies to their life, write down some of those thoughts, and share their thoughts with others throughout the day. Living your best life is well within your reach when you begin to understand and absorb what God has so generously given to us. Go spread the Word!

Spread The Word - Bonnie Bond

    1 Corinthians 1

First Corinthians is written by Paul. He is speaking to the church of Corinth.

In Chapter 1, Paul is calling for the church to be in unity. (1 Cor. 1:10) He asks the church members to be clear in whom they are worshipping (verse 12) and that it is Christ who is the savior and the focus of our worship. He also asks the church members not to be discouraged if they are deemed foolish when their faith is questioned by the wise Greeks or the religious Jews. He asserts in 1:25 that the foolishness of God is wiser than men and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

Let us remain in the presence of God. Let us allow Him to guide us in our everyday lives. Speak the Word of God to others when they ask your opinions and live the Word as an example to others. Know that it is not foolish to turn the other cheek, and it is not weak to turn away from strife instead of engaging in it. Let this be the focus of your prayer time and be blessed this day.

    1 Corinthians 2

As the letter to the church in Corinth continues, we see that Paul is asking that the members of the church grow in wisdom by the power of the Holy Spirit. Verse 2:5 repeats an Old Testament sentiment, That your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. It says that we should be led by the Holy Spirit in what we do each day and that the spirit of God living in us gives us power and supernatural understanding.

Today we are to walk by faith and not by sight, knowing that the Holy Spirit will lead and guide us to what the Lord has planned for us this day. Regardless of how we feel or what obstacles may come our way, we have the power to overcome them. We have a helper that keeps us. Let us depend on the power of God to strengthen us this day. May all of the glory be to our Lord and savior.

    1 Corinthians 3

Paul speaks of the Corinthians as still being carnal, operating in the flesh rather than in the spirit. Since we are flesh, it is easy to operate in our feelings rather than to concentrate on the Lord who actually gives us our breath every day. He goes on to say that even though we may plant seeds and cultivate and water the seed, it is God who gives the increase.

A few years ago, I went to lunch with a young lady who I thought was my friend. We ate my favorite Chinese food from one of my favorite buffets at the time. She said she didn’t have the money for it, so I treated that day. As a result, she used the fortune cookie from that lunch, played the lottery, and won a staggering sum of money. After she collected this fortune, she told me how it had come about. In my thinking and as a friend, I believed that I had contributed to her increase and thought she should have offered me a nice portion of the money; however, she did not. So I asked her a few days later did she not think she should share with me. The next day she gave me a check for two hundred dollars. I smile as I write this; but from this gesture, I realized that she did not see me as a friend in the way in which I view friendship, so I learned from the experience.

I told a few people this story and they were appalled, suggesting that I had been greatly wronged, and I thought so too at the time. 1 Corinthians 3:7 says, So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Today I know that God gave this young lady her increase and that it was not meant for me, that I gained
