This book is dedicated to my wonderful husband, Cliff, who has allowed me to walk beside him in his ministry; to Karley Miller Baurichter, who encouraged me to put my stories down in writing; and to all the churches who have allowed us to serve as their pastor and wife.
Introduction
It has been nearly forty years since my husband and I started working in Christian ministry. My, how time passes. The title of this book, A Pastor’s Wife—God, What Were You Thinking?, came to me out of my own insecurities and fear of failure. I could not imagine how God could take an introverted girl and use her as a pastor’s wife. It was very difficult for me to even talk to people I didn’t know. Maybe that was a good thing! That’s the power of God—taking people and making them into something they could never imagine.
This book contains stories of situations that occurred during our ministry. Some are funny, and some will really touch your heart. Through these incidences, either as a pastor’s wife or not, I am sure you can relate to some chapters. Please do not take offense at any of them. They are situations that affected me and reflect my personal perception on the situations.
God had it right! Imagine! It has truly been a blessing to serve in the capacity of a pastor’s wife. I am truly blessed He chose me. People cannot believe I was ever shy! I hope you enjoy the book.

God, What Were You Thinking?
Ladies, you know what it is like when you have found your dream guy. I don’t mean the tall, dark, and handsome kind. I am talking about the guy who has a good job, an excellent education, a good Christian background, and a direction in his life. It doesn’t even matter if his degree is in philosophy/religion. Nobody uses those degrees anyway, right? Wrong!
I had finally met the guy of my dreams. He had all the above attributes, and we planned to marry the next summer. Everything was ready for the big day. A few months before our wedding, he came to me and said he wanted to talk about the direction in which he felt God was leading in his life. He felt called to full-time pastoral service and wanted to pursue that direction. My fiancé had already called to see if there were any churches searching for new pastors. He asked me how
