About this ebook

This story is about Stuart Pidgrass, a fourth grader that had developed a very negative view about education and school in general. He hated school! Stuart didn't understand why it had to be so important.

Firemen didn't have to read to find out someone's house was on fire! Policemen didn't have to do math just to shoot criminals, and a doctor didn't have to know history to give a flu shot! Reading, Writing, Math, and History, what a waste of time, thought Stuart.

He saw no value in sitting in class and completing "wasteful schoolwork." He saw no connection between education and becoming successful. So, why bother?

That's what he thought until that dreadful night.

Stuart’s mother gently shook him to wake up as he lazily rolled in his bed. Why, why did he have to get up and go to school? He hated it! A few seconds later, his mom called him from the kitchen.

Get up, sleepyhead! You don’t want to miss the bus.

Stuart groaned and slowly stumbled out of bed. He brushed his teeth and washed his face, and ever so thoughtfully dressed for his upcoming school day. He could hear the clatter and hum of the tenement coming to life as everyone else prepared for their daily struggle.

A few minutes later, he sat at the table and stabbed a spoonful of cereal into his waiting mouth. He could see his sisters in the other room watching TV, as they waited for him to finish so they could all walk to the bus stop. He patted his hair down as he noticed that both of his sisters had already been
