    Preface

Did you get God’s text message? Or did it come through email, Twitter, or Instagram? Does God speak to us in the twenty-first century, or did He only speak during Biblical days? In Dialogues with God, Janel Daguisan draws on his and others’ real-life situations to demonstrate how God still speaks to us.

In his journey with God, the apostle Paul experienced real-life situations where God spoke to him. I am not implying that Janel Daguisan is an equal to the apostle; however, both provide examples in their lives that many of us can relate to. Dialogues with God provides a beacon of light for us to gain insight and confidence that God still speaks to us today.

As you read through the pages of this book, you will be challenged to reflect on your life. As you run the tape of your life, I hope you will remember those situations and times when you said, "Oh, yeah, God was speaking to me!"

Then it is time to begin to analyze your response.

Did I receive His message? What was the outcome?

Did I ignore His message, and what was that outcome?

Did I not recognize the message was from God?

The question is not ‘Does God speak to us?’ God speaks! The real question is ‘Are we listening?’ (Dr. Zke Zimmerman).

Dr. Zimmerman is the founder of Megagenesis and the School Fatherhood Mentoring Program.

He is a church moderator and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill and member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and 100 Black Men of America.

    Introduction

Some say that God no longer dialogues with people like He used to, since the Bible has been completed. Such a statement would naturally imply that the Bible addresses all issues, including all personal matters. Can you imagine God—the Creator of the universe Who loved His children to the point of leaving His throne in heaven, becoming flesh to live among them, and dying a horrific death on the cross to save them—suddenly stopping all channels of communication with His favorite creation?

Could it be that people who claim God no longer talks to us are not in a position to address the subject? Is it possible that either God has not spoken to them or they are unable to hear His voice or understand His way of communicating? May it be that their dogmatism is simply due to a lack of trust? Some people may use the pretense that God has spoken to them to pursue their own desires and blame failure on God. We can easily identify people who use the name of God in vain, as their actions will not reflect the Bible.

In an era where secularism is on the rise and the belief in anything other than God is considered the norm, it is understandable why someone may be reluctant to openly discuss the fact that he or she is in conversation with the All-Knowing. From a medical standpoint, some argue that anyone who hears voices—even if they claim it is God—may be experiencing psychotic episodes. The mental health stigma makes it difficult for some of us to publicly confess that God, the Architect of the universe, has contacted them and spoken to them. What is more important: being seen as normal by denying conversation with the Almighty or being bold and confessing the truth regardless of what others may think?

One night after work, I had a chance to reflect on my life. God opened my eyes to His constant presence and provisions throughout my entire existence and my family’s. I remember lying on the bed watching TV when I started to pray fervently to God, begging Him for something I desired. I suddenly had a strong craving to write the book. I have made promises to God before. However, this time was exceptionally unusual: God made a promise to me instead.

Prior to this revelation, I had no idea why the events that affected my life happened the way they did. Nevertheless, after this heavenly revelation, I started to realize God’s hand in the pattern of my life, my surroundings, and my circumstances and how they all shape my life for the better. His eyes never left me for a second. His perpetual watch is indescribably overwhelming to say the least.

    The Call

It was a beautiful night, and the small church on Remsen Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, was unprepared for the large crowd that gathered. The number more than exceeded the building’s capacity of approximately two hundred people, overpacking the place. There were even people standing outside barely able to hear the visiting pastor’s testimony.

From city to city and country to country, Christians flocked to hear Pastor Champagne’s animated preaching style as he shared his edifying testimony of how Christ delivered him from the secret Freemason Society, often referred to as the Masons.

The church in Brooklyn had four sections of pews, with approximately twenty rows in each section. I remember sitting in the third section on the sixth or seventh row from the front door when I heard God speak to my heart.

Tonight is the night for you to accept Jesus as your Savior, God said to me silently.

I replied, I don’t need to go to accept Christ. I was practically raised in a church. My mom has been taking me to church as long as I can remember. If you want me to go to the front to accept Christ, have the pastor invite me directly. A smile brushed up my face after I extended the challenge to
