About this ebook

Are you tired of playing church? Have you truly experienced the presence of the Living God in your life? If you have not experienced the presence of the Lord God in your life, then the transformation starts now! Seeking the One True Living God is written to help you begin understanding who you are in Christ. Christianity is not attending church every Saturday or Sunday, singing in the choir, wearing a religious symbol, or being a minister. Christianity is a lifestyle, one of holiness and righteousness in the eyes of the Lord God Almighty.

Dr. C. L. Friend’s spiritual journey may be similar to others who have left the church, in search of something real. Finding that missing piece of your life starts within these pages. Seeking the One True Living God will probe your thinking in what you truly believe. This book will encourage you to stand strong on your faith and seek the Scriptures for understanding. Salvation is a journey, and you must walk with a clear understanding of what you believe. This book was designed so people are not scattered about wandering around the world lost and not fully able to explain their beliefs. Many people do not know what they believe; however, this book will put into perspective the dire need to seek after the Lord of Hosts. The Lord does not wish for any to perish, so seek the wisdom from above. True Christians are called to be an example, a light in this world. Seeking the One True Living God points out the importance that followers of Christ need to let their light shine brightly! This book also encourages professing Christians to be the church and not just be in the church. Glory be to the One True Living God.

I want to give all honor and glory to my Father, the One True Living God, who has allowed me the opportunity to share a part of my spiritual journey with everyone who reads this book. I want to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation to my husband and best friend, Johnny Friend. Johnny, you have been a huge supporter, teacher, and traveling companion; and I thank God for having a Christian husband in my life. To my children, Simone, Asha, Perryn, Richard, and Patrick Jr., I wrote this book to inspire you to hold onto your faith. The Lord God is always with you; stay true to your upbringing in the true faith in our Lord and Savior. To my grandchildren, Prince Jamari, Princess Nia-Nicole, Kailani, Iyana, Ahriya, and my future grandchildren and great-grandchildren, please know you are a part of a royal priesthood and a peculiar people. Do not worry if you do not fit in with this world. I will tell you a secret; you are not supposed to. You are children of the Most High God, the One True Living God. Reach your hands out to the Lord, and he will guide your footsteps into all truth; believe and have faith. I will be amiss if I do not mention Laval Jackson and Patrick Williams Sr., who had a role in my spiritual journey. Thank you and I love you all. Remember, the key to success is the journey of learning. Therefore, never stop learning.

    Chapter 1

    Knowing Your Enemy

    Knowing Your Enemy

In the 1980s, Michael Jackson wrote a song titled Man in the Mirror. The lyrics of this song resonated with me. I reflected on the concept of poverty, lost and damaged souls, and inner change, eliminating the need for selfish desires and being an example in a dark world. The song appears to bring about a desire for self-awareness and the need to transform the mind. While I do not know the intentions or motives behind the song, I can only infer my understanding.

As I ponder the questions, Why do people argue and fight? Why are there so many conflicts in the world? Son, we are our own worst enemy, are words my husband’s father would always say. How can this be? I only want the best for myself; how can I be my own worst enemy? However, I have found there is much truth to this statement. In James 4:1, the questions posed were, What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source of your pleasures that wage war in your members? James 4:2 goes on to say: You lust and do not have; so, you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain, so you quarrel.

Now, take a few minutes and reflect upon those statements. When you get upset or angry about a situation, ask yourself, Why am I mad? Is it because you did not get your way? Committing murder is not just a physical concept but a spiritual concept. Lust is having a strong desire for something, whether lust for power, a sense of greed, or selfish desires. Passion and pride can lead to many sins because we do not get our way.

In this world, there are two forces: good and evil. Good is considered the light, and evil is considered darkness. I visited numerous churches seeking a place to belong in my spiritual journey, and all I found was hypocrisy among the congregation and pulpit. Ministers, called to lead the people to God, did not live the lifestyle of Christian living. I have seen preachers with a lying tongue having affairs and children with flock members. I have witnessed a minister encouraging a deacon to stay with a married woman overnight but ensuring him not to let the sunrise and people see his vehicle there in the morning. I have witnessed supposed men of God taking money from the poor for their agendas and selfish desires. How can this be in the house of God? I struggled for years, seeing these things and wondering is this the God I want to serve? Is this the right faith for me?
