About this ebook

It is of great honor and privilege that I present to the readers writing that will give those who possess these words in their view all that can have many to tell others what they have purchased as a powerful reminder of past, present, and future writings. During my years of sharecropper’s son for nineteen years. God bless to have an Afro-American father and mother who were able to buy and farm many produce for market purchases. It was there on this farmland in Hobbsville, North Carolina. As the youngest of eleven children, it was in rural North Carolina where my father and mother have one large farm. During these years, Daddy purchased the farm, owned a small store, was a preacher of the gospel, was a pastor, and was a leader of a rural country congregation. But it was never his obligation and duty as a father of eleven children, but he maintained who he was. I grew up going to school in a red brick schoolhouse attended only by Afro-Americans (Negros) for many of my younger years. By now, I came accustomed to the beginning of freedom but still slaves; it was there in rural North Carolina that I learn what slavery was all about.

My father and mother raised eleven children from the sweat and tears while dealing with racialism in the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s, but they were able to raise eleven professional children as follows:

Thomas E. Nowell—a military, postal worker, construction (building swimming pool)

Lillian Nowell (Franklin)—works for the Bell Telephone Company, raising four children

Ruth Nowell (Drew)—works in Bell Telephone, usher in church

Mildred Nowell (Boyd)—works in Bell Telephone, usher in church

Nurney L. Nowell Sr.—IRS, bridge and tunnel toll booth (captain), has three children

Harold Nowell—military service, mass transit authority (train operator)

Willie Nowell—military service, a custodian in school system

Marjorie Nowell (King)—a housewife and a mother of four boys

Lillie Mae Nowell (Chappell)—first son, nurse, and usher in church

Arthur Nowell—serves in the United States Air Force, E-8, retired from twenty-two years of service, works as an ROTC instructor, taught Baltimore, Maryland, school system

Rev. Dr. Charles L. Nowell Sr.—has three children, served in the United States Air Force for eight years and six months, honorably discharged in November 1974

This will give readers a close look at my past and now. Thank you.

    Author’s Note

Some years ago, I began my earthly ministry in San Bernardino, California. On that, the leadership of two great preachers God placed in my life. Rev. Ernest Reece, pastor of Unity Baptist Church, San Bernardino, and Rev. Dr. Harding T. Deon Sr. of the Greater Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, also of Greater San Bernardino, California. As my early ministry brought about early troubles and stumbling blocks, God brought me through. It is in this book that Job and Paul caught my curiosity about what they both went through being servants of the Most High God. In order to be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the works of our Lord Jesus Christ, these words I would like to leave with the readers of this book.

To plant a new organization in the earth, which was to defy time, death, and all the powers of the underworld, working now through humans and now through demonic agencies; to create a society which should gather within its compass, the most enlightened minds, the loftiest ideals, and the saintiest souls! That they—through moral and spiritual impact on their age and succeeding ages—purified and so saved society, created a high state of civilization, and changed history to enable all who come in contact with the true servants of God can be assured as it is written in the gospel according to St. John chapter 14, verse one through six, and I quote, Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and provide a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, that ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way you know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not wither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The life of Job showing the readers how to deal with our midnights.

    Introduction

This book is designed to assist those born through some unusual dark times in their lives. As we take this journey together, hopefully, all of us will gain a greater understanding of our midnight experience. As I look at the life of Job and New Testament Apostle Paul, it is a great honor and privilege that God has placed in my spirit to write and chronicle the lives of these great leaders. One of the uncharted areas of Christians lives is how do we deal with our midnight experience.

As I travel with Job and his unique style of dealing with his midnight experience and also New Testament Apostle Paul, it is my hope that all of us will come to a greater appreciation and reverence for the Word of God and God himself.

    Chapter 1

    When Adversity Comes

Nothing confuses us and tries our faith like seeing bad things happen to good people. The fairness of God sometimes comes into question when a young father is killed, leaving a wife and small children, or when in Brooklyn, New York, has an epidemic of killings of mass destruction of our young people on a daily basis. Gun violence is our control, mothers and fathers alike dread receiving a phone call about that Xiao that will not be returning, confusing to say the least.

The confusion associated with adversity and suffering is as old as time itself. Consider Job. When we think about bad things happening to good people, Job would have to be first on the list. There is no record in
