Chapter 2
After sitting down listening to my father, Brett, and my uncle Frank talk about the time when Cotton Villa had become infested with wicked spirits, taking over people and their homes, I decided that I would be the first to talk about it to the world so that everyone will know of the small town call Cotton Villa, Alabama.
My name is Brandon, and Brett is my father.
This is how it started before I had come alone.
This is about a doctor that had performed many of surgeries on patients with success. Until one time, things didn’t go too well, he felt himself losing his touch to perform. He started drinking. His nevus had gotten real bad, so bad that his license was revoked because he was not able to perform surgeries. Well, Dr. Welden didn’t want to give it up, so he started a false advertisement where he acted like he still was a licensed doctor. Once the patient entered his office, they didn’t leave him and his girlfriend. Shawn, who was his assistant, would keep them in a place that he had rented that had five or six rooms in the building.
As he experimented on them, it was more like for people that didn’t have insurance. That’s when things had gotten real bad, a lots of people didn’t make it, and the ones that didn’t, the doctor would bury them in a place that no one knew of. The ones that did recover from the surgeries that Doc performed on, he had a place for each person in the building. The bodies started to add up, from him trying to perform major surgeries, when he’s supposed to be doing surgery for another. The spirits around and inside the building had gotten so bad! They weren’t at peace from the way they suffered. They made Doc kill his girlfriend, brutally!! And then they made him hang himself in one of the cellars below!
Knowing the mad man he had become, it was too late to turn back.
Now with that being done, the owner found them in the building, along with the patients who was still living but was messed up so bad that they were beyond repair; so they took them to the hospital where they treated them and notified their people, and their people were able to come and get them: the ones that were able to leave.
The owner of the building, Mr. Charles, rented it out to some more people. They stayed in the building for about twelve months before they had to leave!
No matter who rented the building, they couldn’t stay long before they begin to hear and see evil spirits and blood coming out of the walls! Voices and chains rattling, it had become real bad around town.
*****
Now, 1968 was when I started to work for this family. My name is Brett Johnson.
This had started two years before. There was this one family that rented the building, and they wanted to turn it into a restaurant. They wanted to buy the building and tear it down and start from scratch—Mr. Clay, Lisa, and their son, Richard. They did remodel the building, but they didn’t tilt the ground. He left the landscaping like it was before. So that meant that the bodies were still in the ground out back of the building.
And the spirits were getting worse and worse because they weren’t at peace. Now by the town, sitting out like in the country part of the town, the owner that had just bought the place. Mr. Clay, he wanted to raise some hogs, chickens, and cows and grow his own vegetables, thinking that he would save money by the spread being so big there’s no telling where Weldon had buried the bodies on the land.
Everything was going good for about a year. At the beginning of the next year, during the rainy season, that was when it started, badly! The business was booming. The owner was doing so good. Mr. Clay had him a house built on the other side of the restaurant but still didn’t touch the soil in the back of the building where the doctor had buried the bodies. The soil was poisoned.
When the restaurant was getting ready to close for that night, the workers said that they could hear people talking in the back, like there were people still in the building. They say that they didn’t know one, be in the building, but the dishwasher, Brett, and Keryl, they said that they could be in the same room and hear it.
People talking! Loud and clear. They say sometimes they would see blood coming out of the walls, of the building look like they would see people standing with hospital clothes on, young and old people. That was what the dishwasher was saying to his uncle. The dishwasher’s name is Brett, and his uncle is named Mr. Frank.
Now Brett would tell his uncle Frank everything that went on at the restaurant a lot of times. Mr. Frank would go down the street to eat at the place because that was where his nephew worked. Now a lot of times, Brett would go to his uncle and his wife, Sandra. One night, they were sitting in the front talking.
Frank told Brett to sit down and let him tell him how it started, and Frank would start to tell Brett about the time that this doctor had rented the building. His name was Dr. Welden, and his girlfriend, who was his assistant was named Shawn. Mr. Frank was telling Brett about all of the people that the doctor had killed. From him doing illegal surgeries on people. After he had lost his license to do operations on people or anything else, as far as that was concerned, and how he kept them in the building after he had messed them up, the ones that didn’t die from his hands.
The ones that didn’t make it, he buried them somewhere. No one knows what he had done with the bodies. They said that this had been going on for a long time, and you could hear loud screams all through the night!
From the way they were tortured, Frank said that right now, today at two o’clock in the morning, you can see spirits. If you are on your porch or driving on the road out front of the house, you can see all kinds of evil, wicked spirits walking the road as if they are lost and looking for their resting place!
Well, Uncle Frank, from now on I’ll be staying here with you and Aunt Sandra,
said Brett. If you don’t mind!
Whenever you get ready, Brett. You’re my brother’s only son, and I am here for you. I made a promise to my brother before he passed that I would look after you!
Mr. Frank told Brett that it was getting late and he had a few errands that he had to run the next day, and he was going to lie down.
He showed Brett where the towels and stuff for him to use!
Brett went in his room thinking about what his uncle had told him about the place where he works. He said to himself, I wonder, do Mr. Clay and his wife, Lisa, know about what happened in that place? I notice when they try to tell him about the strange things that was going on inside, when the place is fixing to close, he acted like we were making it up, and the spooky stuff about it is it never happens when he’s around. I know what I am going to do. Me and the girls, we are going to have to try and get him in there, right when it starts to happen! And see what he has to say then.
As he gathered his sleeping close together for his shower saying that’s what I’ll do, said Brett.
*****
One night, Mr. Clay and his family were all asleep when they heard the animals carrying on real bad. The noise woke Richard. First, with the pigs squealing loud and clear, and then the chickens. Clay woke up and ran to put on some clothes then grabbed his wife, Lisa.
As they ran in the front room and peeped out of the window, they saw some real bright lights out around the animals pens, looking like a bunch of lightning bugs in balls. Clay ran in the hallway and opened the closet and grabbed his rifle.
As he started for the front door, his wife, Lisa, hollered for him to be careful. He and his son, Richard, they went to the front porch where they stopped and stood there for a minute as they watched the lights hovering around in all over the animals!
Mr. Clay, he thought that it was some kind of wild animals trying to get to his farm animals. He didn’t think that it was nothing like spirits or a beast. He said to Richard, It’s probably some kind of a wild animal trying to get some of my chickens, or one of my hogs.
That’s when Clay and his son walked closer to where the animals were, and he fired a shot up in the air. They still were hovering around the animals. That’s when they noticed, coming from around the side of the building, sounds like someone was calling out for help. It was one o’clock at night when this started.
Clay hollered out, Who are you!
The cry grew louder and louder, and then everything stopped cold!
Clay and his son ran back to the house and locked the doors. That’s when he told his
