Novus Ordo Seclorum - Ryan X Martin

    PART 1

    CHAPTER 1

    The Arrival

Shaking. That was the first indication. At the moment, we thought it was an earthquake. My family and I lived a normal life in the suburbs. We had a black coup which got us around pretty well. I was a police officer in Sindnor Missouri. I wore my uniform everyday with my cap that covered my short black hair. I carried a Revolver. I never liked to use it, although I had been forced to before.

My wife, Darlene was a stay at home mother, as most wives were. She did however have a since of independence, which unlike most men, I respected. In return she respected me. She still wore her black dress and make up. She had shoulder length brown hair. My son, Stan was an average Nine year old. He went to school, came home and did his homework, and then would go play in the yard, sometimes with friends.

One thing about my family was that no one gave too much thought to Extraterrestrial existence. I mean, we heard of the Roswell Incident a few years back. But everyone had been told that it was a weather balloon that had crashed. I never saw a reason that our government would lie to us. If there was a threat of little green men trying to take over the earth with their lasers and flying saucers, I would have thought that our Military and all others would want to protect the world.

It wasn’t that my family was totally against the idea of Alien existence. I mean my wife was, and I was unsure about my son. But I had always believed. I had never given too much thought about it, but I thought the chances of life existing in the expanding universe was a strong probability. But other than the Space Invaders comics my son read, we didn’t spend time thinking about the Supernatural. Of course on the night of the September 23, 1953, all that would change. It all started with a shake.

Me and Darlene were cleaning up supper while Stan played with toys in the living room. I finished sweeping the floor and was looking in the mirror. My face was dirty. It had been a long day at work. My partner and I had arrested a mad man who had caused a public disturbance. He had taken off all his cloths, exposing everything. The women would all scream as a butt naked guy ran screaming though the streets with his long brown hair and balls swaying.

By the time my partner and I had arrived, he had gotten ahold of a bull horn. He was hollering through it at a crowd of people. I could feel my ears pounding because of the loud noise. It was impossible to pick up everything that the crazy man was yelling. We heard things like,

    This is the end!

    Or

They communicated with me through the radio. I walked up to him, my partner nervously standing behind me.

    Sir. I said.

He turned his head to me so fast, I almost jumped back a few feet feeling very startled. I took a deep breath and decided to calmly keep talking. I knew this guy was on some sort of drug. I guessed it was probably bath salt. I had seen many people go insane from that. It was called the zombie drug in my town.

I am Officer Brown, this is my partner Officer Rand, and we are with the Sidnor County... I started but got interrupted.

I know who you are! He yelled.

His eyes had gotten wide. My hand reached close to my revolver. This guy seemed unpredictable.

You want to shut me up! He had yelled.

I already talked to you Black fucks!

That was an odd thing to say. I mean racism was very common throughout the country. It was working on getting resolved. We had spokesmen and the schools had just started integrating. I hoped that within a few years racism would not cease to exist. The strange thing was that neither me nor my partner were African American.

You think that your hats and ties are intimidating! You are. Seriously mistaking!

Again, weird. We were wearing police caps, but no ties. I had just about enough and just wanted to arrest him so that I could fill out paper work and go home.

Sir, can you come step by my car and rest your hands on it. I said with a hard tone.

    Oh hell no! He shouted.

If you want to kill me, why don’t you kill me right here in front of this crowd. Why don’t you show your true colors? I had just about enough. My patience was running out. I pulled out my hand cuffs. I was quick and successfully cuffed one of his hands. But not the second. He yelled and quickly slapped me in the face with his free hand. I let go of his other hand. Big Mistake.

He quickly swung the hand with the cuffs at me. The end hit me in the side of the head. I stumbled back and fell on my knees. My head was pounding. I touched the tender part where I had been struck. I could feel a streak of blood running down my head. I looked up and saw my partner shoving him into the car while holding his revolver. Eventually he fully cuffed the mad man and threw him in the back of the police car.

He walked over to me. He had red hair with a red beard. I could see his tall and heavy body. He was about ten years younger than me. I would say that he was thirty one.

    You okay’ Henry? He asked.

I stood up and gave a sarcastic remark.

    Never felt better Chase!

    He smiled.

Well the nut will be locked up with all those other loonies.

Loonie would not be the correct term. I said walking to the driver’s side of the car and getting in. Chase sat next to me. Right, Right. He said.

Special needs people. You know I forgot just how much of an equal rights person you are. I mean, you should just go stand in the streets holding up signs while....

Will you shut up, damn it! I yelled.

    Chase put up his hands.

Sorry dad, I’ll make sure I do all my homework next time.

I sighed and drove to the station. I was treated for my wound and told to go home early. Chase volunteered to do my paper work.

I looked at my bruised temple and then at my body. I was getting old. But I was still in good shape.

    Honey! Yelled Darlene.

Mind helping me with the dishes? I’ll be right over. I yelled.

I walked over and gave her a kiss. We started to finish the dishes.

You know Henry, after we put Abel into his bed, I’ll take care of that little injury of yours. I know the perfect medicine. She said rubbing my leg. I smiled. I stopped washing the dishes and looked directly into my wives eyes. We just stared for a second or two. That was until I noticed the dishes shaking. Then the table. Soon the walls and house were also. A picture fell off the wall. My son came running in yelling,

    Mommy! Daddy! Earthquake!

Darlene held him until the shaking stopped.

    It’s alright son. I said

It’s over now. Most earthquakes are short and harmless.... I started before the power went out. It was

completely dark. I could not see a thing. I took a lighter out of my pocket and slowly walked around the house lighting candles.

It’s okay. I said to reassure my son.

But I couldn’t finish. There was a screeching sound coming from the sky.

Stan ran and grabbed a lamp and the camera off of the dining table and proceeded to run outside.

    Wait! Both Darlene and I.

We started chasing him, not knowing what on earth was happening. The screeching had gotten louder. As we got out to the porch, we saw a black roundish thing with flames attached to it coming from the sky. I breathed out a sigh of relief. It was just a meteor. This scary situation had turned into something positive. I could even teach Stan a thing or two before selling it to a museum for a small fortune.

We still chased Stan through the field. It was dark and dangerous outside at night. Eventually, he got to the edge of the field and looked over a ledge that went a little ways down.

    Holy Shit! He yelled.

Watch your mouth! My wife snapped until we too looked over the edge.

    Holy Shit I exclaimed.

All we could see at the bottom was the black thing, which resembled a spaceship somewhat, burning. This was no meteor.

Stan was about to go down, but I grabbed him and told him it wasn’t safe. We watched for a while as the thing and grass burnt. Nobody said a thing for the longest time. After a little bit, we heard something crunching and moving. I was about to tell Stan to run back to the house and grab my rival when the creature jumped out of the wreckage. Standing there, or should I say, crawling was something that resembled a lizard. It was tall. It had two tall back legs and two small front. On each of its scaly legs, it had two sharp claws. Its scaly body; which was missing a tail, had the strangest head that I had ever seen. It was round like a humans for the most part, but it had a beak and an even rounder huge bump on the back of its head. It was running away from the wreckage

Me and Darlene were terrified. But our son had a strong sense of braveness to him. What he did next was so bold, but incredibly stupid, that I would scream at him for later for. He brought up the camera and snapped a picture.

    CHAPTER 2

    The Photo

I woke up early the next morning in my car bed. I kept opening and closing my eyes. I then pinched myself to make sure I was awake and that everything that I had experienced had been real. I remembered seeing the Alien running from what he assumed to be its crashed and burning spacecraft. I had done the only thing he could think of. I took a picture of it.

After the click and flash, the thing had turned its head and let out a loud screech before running away. Me and my parents both turn and ran. Once we got to the porch, my father grabbed my arm and looked directly in my eyes.

What the Hell were you thinking? He had screamed.

I was terrified, not only of the Alien, but of my father. He had never yelled at me like this before. There were tears in my eyes. Dad must have saw them because he let go of my arm.

I just wanted proof to show everyone. I cried. Nobody would believe me if I didn’t.

My father sighed and stepped away. Mom had then sweetly told me to wash up and go to bed. I did.

While I lied in bed, I heard my Mom and Dad talking frantically.

Should we call the police? Asked mom.

No, they will come and look, then next we will have the government on our front porch causing commotion neither we nor the whole town wants. Said my father.

How could you know that? Asked my mother. Because I am the police Darlene!

My father was almost shouting. After a while, I heard him tell mother to come upstairs and check on me, then to go retire to bed herself. He said that he would stay on the porch with his rifle until he knew they were safe.

As my mother’s footsteps came up the stairs, I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep. After I heard my door creak and then shut a little, I got up and walked over to my wall. I took down the space Invaders poster and then laid back down. After a few hours, I was able to sleep.

Now I walked over to my door and slowly opened it. I then tip towed next to my parent’s room and down the stairs. I saw that the Dining room light was on, which had meant that the power had come back on. I walked to the rusty porch door, opening it before walking out. The sunlight hit me, making it look as if last night’s events never happened.

I walked through the field until I got to the ledge. When I looked over, I was shocked at what I saw. There wasn’t anything new. In fact, it was just a field. As if nothing ever touched it. I started to wonder if last night was in fact, a dream. It’s all strange, son. Yelled my dad’s voice as if on cue. He walked towards me. He was clearly a lot calmer than last night.

I stayed up all night with my rifle, waiting to see if it came back. I think we are fine.

Ok good. It was real. I was now wondering how to prove that this was real.

School was a hassle for me. I was in the fifth grade and the other kids were assholes. There was no other way to put it. I wanted something to show them. To show them that I too had awesome experiences.

Don’t worry though. Said my Dad as if reading my mind.

I’ve got the film out of the camera. I thought you would like it if I published it to the newspaper.

My eyes lit up at that. Dad must have saw because he said,

And you know what! I hear that you are having a show and tell this Wednesday at school. How would you like to bring the picture?

I was jumping up and down in excitement.

    Thanks Pop! I yelled.

I gave him a huge hug and ran back towards the house for some breakfast.

The rest of the day was a fairly normal one. I ate, did some last minute homework, and then played. At one point, late in the afternoon, I overheard my Mother and father arguing. My mother didn’t think that it was a good Idea that my father published the photo to the newspaper. She thought only bad things would come from it. I smiled because it was two to one.

We ate a late dinner that night. Afterwards, Mother told me to brush my teeth and put on some pajamas. I then went to bed. Tomorrow was Monday, which meant that I had to get up early so that I could catch the bus. I fell asleep easily that night. I was excited to tell everyone about what I saw.

Around six-thirty, Mother nocked on my door and told me it was time to get up. I was beyond exited. I threw on my school uniform, made my bed, and was already at the table before my dad had his first cup of Coffee. He was dressed in his police uniform. I ate some cheerios and drank some orange juice. After a while, I went to the bus stop and stood waiting.

The bus driver arrived a few minutes late. I got on and sat in a seat alone. I watched as all the other kids shouted and threw stuff. After a twenty minute drive, I arrived at Sidnor Elementary School. I put on my back pack and walked in. I went to my locker and pulled out my books for first period. I went into Ms. Clark’s reading class. She was an old woman with white hair that seemed as if it was falling out. I didn’t like her. Nobody did. I’m pretty sure that she didn’t like anyone either. I sat in my chair quietly and watched the other kids in the room. Since Ms. Clark was currently out of the room, everyone was going wild. Some kids were throwing paper airplanes as others were yelling and screaming. And then, there were those few picking on Tiffany.

This year, the schools had done something they have never done before. They allowed black kids to come over. Though my Father always told me to call them African Americans. I thought that this was an awesome opportunity. My father believed in equal rights of people of the other color. Even so, it was not often that I came across an African-American. The whole school had been in an uproar about the situation. They had yelled, cursed, and even attacked kids of different color.

I watched now as two boys stood in front of Tiffany. I did have to admit that she looked different, wore her hair differently, but personality wise, she was just like the rest of us. Still human. I watched as the boy named Rick, called her a Nigger. I didn’t know what that word meant, but I knew it wasn’t good. The other boy named Doyal dumped cut up pieces of watermelon on his desk. I wouldn’t mind a nice juicy watermelon, but she looked upset about it. I was about to go say something to the two boys when the kid named Carl came to my desk.

Hello Stan. He said in a mocking voice. Anything interesting happen this weekend? This was the moment I had been waiting for. Actually yes, I said.

You played with your boyfriend? He continued to mock. I ignored that. You see, when they weren’t making fun of the blacks, they were taking every chance they could to make Homo-sexual jokes about people.

    No. I said.

An Alien spaceship crashed in my yard, and I actually saw the Alien.

Carl just stared for a few seconds, then burst out laughing. He called over almost the whole class.

Hey everyone, Stan says that he is friends with an Alien. He mocked.

No, that’s not what I said! I started. Are you going looney, Stan? Asked a guy. Everyone kept making remarks until I had just enough. Will everybody just shut the fuck up for a second!

    I shouted.

    That got their attention.

I got a picture of the Alien, and am going to bring it in for Show in tell Wednesday.

    Carl looked at me.

Tell you what. You bring in the picture, I will believe you.

    I smiled.

I left school at the end of the day pretty excited. But once I got off the bus, I knew something was wrong. There was an unknown vehicle in the driveway. I ran inside to see Two Military men in uniform

    CHAPTER 3

    Blue Book

I woke up around nine-thirty on the day after the creature landed in my yard. It had been a frightening experience. After a few hours of shouting and putting the kid to bed, Henry had decided to stay out for the night with his rifle. I then proceeded to go to sleep. I didn’t sleep much that night. Eventually I was able to shut my eyes. I thought I heard someone walking past my door

around seven o’clock. I closed my eyes for another two and a half hours. Once I got up, Henry and Stan had already gotten some breakfast. I decided that I would just stick with a cup of coffee. Afterwards, I found Henry sitting in his chair in the living room.

Anything out of the ordinary happen since I went to bed? I asked.

I haven’t seen the extraterrestrial since. He said.

    I was confused.

Extraterrestrial? I asked. That’s the scientific word for Alien. He informed me.

I couldn’t help myself from rolling my eyes.

    I’m sorry, He said.

I was under the impression that you were with us last night.

    Oh Henry. I said.

It was dark, we don’t know what we saw. It was probably some sort of lizard. I mean there has to be some sort of explanation.

Henry let out a little laugh.

    What’s so funny? I asked.

I was starting to get angry. It was as if he thought I was stupid. It seemed as if I was the only one who had some since in my head.

    Nothing, said Henry.

It’s just that I have the film from the camera. It shows your Lizard.
