    Dedication

I would like to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for His amazing gift of salvation. I am grateful for the revelation of the Father’s love to me. Through this book, it is an honor to share this season of my Christian walk with you, the reader. I pray, with God’s guidance and His anointing, that this journal helps the reader to simply and completely receive the love of God that is offered to all mankind through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

    Acknowledgements

I offer my deepest gratitude to my husband, Juandedios Lopez. The time we spend in studying the Word of God is the most important part of my day. You have been so very supportive and patient as the Lord God was (and still is) doing His work in my heart. You are very dear to me.

To our son, Rojelio, I hope you forgive me for reflecting, in print, on your preteen development! I am so proud of you and your own walk with our Savior. God bless you and your beautiful family.

To the Word in Season Christian Center in Tucson, Arizona, many thanks. You were our transitional place of worship as the Lord was developing Lessons from the Ledge. You may think you are little in size, but you were a huge refuge for our family at this time. Never underestimate the anointing that is on little things!

    Introduction

It is the morning of our thirty-seventh wedding anniversary. My husband and I are enjoying morning coffee as we sit at the patio table. We are listening to the radio’s classical music station.

A young male cardinal flies in the yard and spots the mixed seed on the ground. Along comes Mrs. C, so Mr. C begins to share his portion with her. He deposits seed bits into her beak.

At this exact moment in all of the universe, the radio station begins to play that old romantic melody Love and Marriage. And now, here in our own backyard, Mr. and Mrs. C are K-I-S-S-I-N-G!

My husband and I were so delighted with this blessing that came directly from the heart of God on our special day. It is too late to tell us that God is not in the details!

So many incidents similar to this occurred along my walk with the Lord. Too many to be ignored. On retrospect, I compare my observation of birds to that of Moses’s with the burning bush in the Genesis account. It only took one time for the Lord to get Moses’s attention, but a lot more than that to get mine! But it did happen.

    Chapter 1

    Mine vs. Theirs

For about two years, I would throw various kinds of wild birdseed on the patio. Just outside our kitchen window, birds would visit the small patch of lawn and garden areas. I would notice one kind of bird, see another, then soon I was even able to distinguish generations of birds as time passed. I recognized some from very obvious markings, or battle scars? Now and then, I would put out crumbled old, dry bread. The birds loved it. Hmm, not being known as a pet lover, I was amused with the daily visits from the feathered kind. I have had a few cats and dogs in my repertoire. So what is so different about the birds? Why wasn’t I compelled to write about my cute cocker spaniel, Brandy? What about my very unusual poodle? To their credit, they were quite enjoyable creatures. I say were because all the pets I’ve known before have gone on to their respective heavens.

My ledge, as I call it, is my perch from which I can observe the various species of birds that come by. For a long time, I was unable to join the birds as they would scatter when I opened the rear door to the patio. So I had to be content to just observe from a distance. Mind you, I did not say I sat on my recliner and spent hours at a time in this pastime! No way! My lessons on bird behavior came during the time it took me to load up the sink with hot, soapy
