Letters from Levi - Chris Genszler

    Letter 1

    Dear Savior,

Though my time here has been short, I thank You for the blessings and daily bread, along with this, shall we say, odd fortune? I mean, living in Your garden is truly interesting and astounding, not to mention gives me many great opportunities.

Your garden is truly unexpected. I understand that, in Your infinite wisdom, You provide for me when I need, not merely when my stomach growls. The stream flowing from the west, down into the garden, provides a beautiful background to the flora. Tulips, lilies; even the dandelions seem to continually gaze upon Your portrait of life. Though the rabbits and squirrels scurry about regularly, Your lions and lambs do not seem to join me here often. Will I be seeing them ever, or shall they be part of another area to which You will send me?

The way the food comes is probably what I find most fascinating: upon emptying the cupboards and closing the doors, I reopened them to find them filled once more not five minutes later! The pantry works similarly; becoming restocked overnight from how it seems. I do appreciate the bed also, how did You know of...oh, right. I suppose the perfection of this place is still having quite an effect on me. Though truly I love the decor of the hill’s house; the carpentry is quite exquisite. Do thank Your Son for that when You have a chance.

I greatly miss that truck from which You delivered me. Though I do not mean to say I regret Your salvation, I do also wish it could have been spared. More on that later, though. Come to the kitchen with me.

I do love the oven’s ability to gift me with freshly cooked meals, and so healthy to boot! I guess having one’s Savior providing the food rather personally helps. The study also has more books than I would ever imagine possible to get through over the course of my time here, though I do not know how long that shall be. I find the selections particularly fascinating; Lewis, Lucado, and Tolkien are almost to be expected, but the science fiction and fantasy novels were surprising. Though again, You know the guest better than he knows himself.

I cannot help but wonder why, even though the garden is gorgeous and quite tranquil, there seems to be a danger out and about the rest of the world. What precisely is going on out there? Has a country or continent finally toppled in economics? Did I miss the nuclear apocalypse? Perhaps this is all a dream and I shall awake to a warm meal and a hot cup of coffee. Though I fear, as I finish this letter, my wrist tires and my fingers ache. This truly is where I find myself, isn’t it? In all honesty, I’d rather be here than anywhere in Your creation; food provided quite readily, the garden is exquisite; except for the weeds, of course. Though without those, my days would be rather monotonous, I suppose.

Greet my parents and siblings, should they be in Your fold. I miss seeing them and hearing from them; keep them from harm’s way should they be here in the midst of this strife. Be with those who are already on their way to the rendezvous point; keep them under Your guidance and wisdom, following Narrow Street through the dangers out there.

Help me sleep well and continue whatever work You have set before me in Your Name.

    Letter 2

    Dear Savior,

That was a rather lovely couple; I thank You for their company and their new marriage, just a few days old. May they enjoy years of happiness together at the rendezvous point. Though it is a shame they will not be able to experience a normal marriage, this circumstance of survival will test their marriage quite readily, and I have no doubt they will prove equal to the challenge.

This meeting triggered something in me which I feel compelled to tell You; though I mentioned it in my earlier letter, I once again wish to thank You for saving me from that crash. The storm was to be expected; it was winter in Michigan, after all. I had driven that road many times; why crash that night? Hmm...I suppose I should have listened to my dad about replacing the brake pads sooner; that truck had been through quite a lot of time and wear. I applaud You for cracking the glass in just the right spots, so as not to cut me when I flew through and onto the grass of the garden where You delivered me.

Regardless of how I find myself here, I am grateful. The garden continues to be well, along with those whom I meet and send Your way down that narrow road. The edges of the road do seem rather jagged, though; I wonder if repair might be done? Though I suppose if repair was completed, those traveling on it would get quite lost, for there are notable forks and twists along the way. I only made it a mile or so before turning back for the night; was
