About this ebook

Even though you're a child are you supposed to let others harm you? Does it give grown-ups the right to bully a kid? Adults can lie too. Defending the enemy is wrong because the antagonist is incorrect to pick on someone. Letting others pick at you will make them realize you're a poltroon. Going against a child victim is wrong. Those liars you listen to will laugh at you behind your back thinking you are a wooden head. When you take sides with the person who is unethical you're just as much of a birdbrain as him/her/them.

    Chapter 1

    Getting Blamed

There was an eleven-year-old girl named Amanda who lived with her parents and two older brothers, Cedric and Emmanuel, in Phoenix, Arizona. Amanda was a happy child. Her stepsister, Bella, had a six-year-old daughter named Olivia. Mom was a stay-at-home mom, and her dad worked four days a week, morning until night, as an accounting college instructor. Every time Olivia visits, she and Amanda would get into arguments. Olivia would mess up her paint sets, jump on the bed, talk back to her grandmother. Amanda could not understand why her mom always let Bella and Olivia come over.

One beautiful day, Amanda was watching TV in the living room, then she went in the kitchen for a snack. Mom was talking on the phone with a troublemaker Amanda knew.

Hello, Bella, said Mom talking on the telephone, would you and Olivia like to come over today?

    No, Mom, cried Amanda.

    Shut up, Amanda! shouted Mom.

Great, said Mom, see you in twenty minutes.

Why did you do that, Mom, snapped Amanda. Every time they come over, there’s trouble.

Mom just walked away from her. Amanda was unhappy because trouble was coming over. What was worse, Mom invited them over. When Olivia and Bella arrived, Amanda’s heart sank. Olivia went up to Amanda’s room and started jumping on the bed.

Stop jumping on my bed, Olivia! shouted Amanda. It’s not a trampoline.

    No way, Olivia hollered.

Amanda grabbed Olivia and put her out of her room. Olivia cried. Mom and Bella came upstairs.

What’s going on here? asked Bella.

Amanda kicked me out, cried Olivia.

Amanda, open the door now! shouted Mom, banging on the door.

    Amanda opened the door.

What’s the big idea kicking a six-year-old out, snapped Bella.

She was jumping on my bed, hollered Amanda, and I told her to stop, but she wouldn’t.

You’re eleven and she’s six, snapped Mom.

Oh, so just because she’s a kid, that means she can jump on my bed, Amanda snapped back. Look what she did. There’s shoe marks all over the bed.

    So, said Bella.

So, Olivia was wrong, said Amanda. You dingbats shouldn’t be defending her. Olivia is wrong no matter how you look at it.

She’s a kid! shouted Mom. Now clean it up, smart-mouth.

As they left the room, Olivia turned back and stuck her tongue out at Amanda. She was so mad that she threw a tantrum. Amanda began knocking stuff down and kicking her old stuffed animals but stopped and thought.

What am I doing? she asked herself. I shouldn’t be doing this because I’m just adding onto the mess.

Amanda cleaned up, took her dirty blanket down to the basement, and washed it. Then when she came back upstairs to paint a picture, Amanda realized her paint set was missing.

Hey, where’s my paint, cried Amanda. Olivia.

She came into the office and found out that Olivia mixed up all the colors. Amanda screamed for her mom. Bella and Mom ran upstairs into the office.

What’s the matter now, girl, Mom popped.

Look what Olivia did to my paint, hollered Amanda. She took it without asking and mixed up the colors. Don’t try to defend her now because it’s the truth and her hands are the only ones covered in paint. I went to the basement to wash my blanket Olivia dirtied up, and when I came back to my room, the paint set was gone. Then I came in here and found out that Olivia ruined my paint.

Olivia, is this true? asked Bella.

No, replied Olivia, Amanda is lying. She said I could use her paint. I didn’t mean to ruin it.

No, Amanda thundered, you’re lying, you little demon!

Shut up, Amanda! Mom shouted. She’s six and you’re eleven. You’re just setting her up to try to gain sympathy for that blanket.

Amanda could not believe what she was hearing. She explained everything Olivia had done and caught her red-handed. Olivia had paint on her hands and was the only one in the office. Mom and Bella believed Olivia just because she was six years old. Olivia was not telling the truth, Amanda was. Amanda ran back in her room, slammed the door, and cried.

This is unbelievable, mewled Amanda. My own mom didn’t believe me. Even though there was evidence. Mom is such a bonehead inviting trouble over.

Mom heard everything Amanda said. She pushed opened the door and had a belt in her hand. Mom whipped Amanda with it.

Maybe that’ll teach you not to lie and be disrespectful! shouted Mom.

Amanda cried on her bed and stayed in her room the rest of the day. She had fallen asleep. Then when Amanda woke up, Olivia and Bella were gone.

At last, Bella and Olivia are gone, Amanda lulled.

Mom came in the kitchen. Amanda tried to ask her why she took Olivia’s side. Mom did not pay Amanda any attention.

Mom is such a woodenhead, Amanda said in her head. She’s stupid enough to believe Olivia the liar, but not me who’s honest. There was even evidence that Olivia did mess up my paint set. Besides, Olivia never asked me if she could use it.

The next day at lunch, Amanda poured ketchup on her hash browns. Her oldest brother, Cedric, was surprised.

Boy, Amanda, pantomimed Cedric, why do you have to use so much ketchup, man?

Yeah, clangored Mom, that’s why we’re always running out of ketchup because of you!

Good grief, replied Amanda, it isn’t even that much on my plate.

Yesterday, Amanda told Olivia that she could play with her paint set, Mom explained, then Amanda waited until after Olivia messed it up to tell me she ruined her paint set.

That’s not what happened! shouted Amanda. I explained to you and Bella that Olivia took my paint set without asking after I went to the basement. Then by the time I got back to the office, it was too late. Olivia already mixed the colors.

    Yeah, right, liar, said Cedric.

You’re a jealous liar, said Emmanuel.

Amanda could not believe that her seventeen- and fourteen-year-old brothers didn’t believe her either. Mom made Emmanuel and Cedric go against her too. She decided to just ignore those pinheads and eat her lunch.

God knows who’s telling the truth and who’s not, Amanda said in her head. God is the only one who believes me. If Mom, Cedric, and Emmanuel want to be chowderhead backstabbers, fine. I bet Olivia’s laughing at Mom and Bella now thinking they are pea brains.

While in her room, Amanda had sat down on her bed and thought about Olivia. She decided to play some video games and have fun. That could possibly take her mind off those crackheads. Suddenly the doorbell rang. Amanda paused her game, and heard the voices of Bella and Olivia.

    Oh no, trouble, cried Amanda.

Olivia came into Amanda’s room and began jumping on the bed again. She decided to ignore her. Then Olivia went into Amanda’s closet and peed in it. Amanda screamed at the top of her lungs. Bella and Mom came bursting into Amanda’s room.

What are you screaming about, girl, snapped Mom.

Olivia just peed in the closet, hollered Amanda. Look, there’s pee all over her. She jumped on my bed again. There are some new shoe marks. Take that brat out of here.

What if she says she’s sorry, asked Mom.

She’s a liar dingbat! Amanda exploded. Olivia always does the same stuff again. If you two are too much of fatheads to see that, why not let her destroy your rooms.

Come on, y’all, let’s leave Ms. Stubborn alone, Bella prescribed.

As they left, Olivia turned around and stuck her tongue out at Amanda. The preteen slammed the door so hard, the house shook. Then she opened her door again.

Go back to your own house, shouted Amanda, and don’t come back again!

    Amanda slammed the door again.

I can’t stand Olivia, Mom, and Bella! shouted Amanda. Whenever they come over, it’s danger. Mom’s too much of an ignoramus inviting and letting them in the house. She is a pig in love with slop. Speaking of which, I need to clean this pee up.

She went to the bathroom and got cleaning supplies. Amanda poured a little on the pee spot where Olivia peed. Then she took her blanket to the basement and washed it again. She went downstairs to find Bella and Olivia gone. Amanda’s happy that they left. After she put her blanket in the washing machine and came back upstairs, Amanda found her new shoes cut up.

What on earth happened, cried Amanda.

Amanda knew Olivia did that with some scissors. Mom appeared, and Amanda shouted, Mom, why did you let Olivia do this to my new shoes?

She would’ve apologized for messing up your bed and peeing in the closet, Mom illustrated, but you were too stubborn to listen.

No she wouldn’t! shouted Amanda. I didn’t jump on her bed twice or pee in her closet. That was nasty, Mom. How would you like it if she jumped on your bed twice and peed in your closet? All she had to do was go to the bathroom, but instead Olivia chose to use my closet as a bathroom.

Whenever I say sorry, you get an attitude, said Mom.

So do you, said Amanda. When I said sorry for knocking over something on accident, you were still mad anyway, so what’s your excuse?

Go to your room! shouted Mom. You can also do everybody’s laundry, clean the kitchen, all the rooms, and clip my toenails.

For telling the truth? Amanda asked.

For being a smart-mouth, snapped Mom.

She’s the one with the attitude, Amanda said in her head.

All day, Amanda cleaned all the bedrooms, kitchen, took care of the laundry, and clipped Mom’s toenails. She felt like a slave.

Emmanuel’s room is untidy than everyone else’s, wailed Amanda. This is so unfair. Olivia was doing stupid stuff to me, I told the truth, and everybody is going against me. Just because Olivia’s six does not mean she is honest. Anybody can lie. I’ll just clean this up fast so I can move onto the next one.

After she cleaned Emmanuel’s bedroom, Amanda moved onto Cedric’s. His room wasn’t so messy although there were clothes everywhere, things on the floor, and food dishes around. She put all the dirty clothes in Cedric’s laundry basket, fixed his bed, straightened up his games, swept up crumbs into a pile and in a dustpan. Then she dumped it in the trash can. She dusted spiderwebs and dust using a feather duster. When Cedric’s room was clean, Amanda moved on to her parents’ room. Luckily, she cleaned her room in the morning before Mom gave her that unfair punishment.

Dust the dresser, TV, and fan, Mom ordered.

She watched Amanda slave away and clean her room. Amanda did everything her Mom said. When that room was clean, Amanda had to go up and down the stairs to get everybody’s laundry basket and take them in the basement. After taking all five baskets down in the basement, she decided to wash her dad’s laundry first. Of course, Amanda knew that the whites and colored clothes could not be washed together because they’d be permanently ruined. Then Amanda went upstairs and sat on the sofa.

Hold on, young lady, you’re not done, snapped Mom. You have to clip my toenails.

Oh, man, wailed Amanda, this is going to be disgusting.

She put on some rubber gloves, a mask, and started cutting Mom’s toenails. When Amanda accidentally clipped the skin, Mom screamed and slapped Amanda in the back of her head.

    Watch it, girl, snapped Mom.

Sorry, cried Amanda, it was an accident. Olivia would’ve done this on purpose.

Don’t try to get Olivia involved in this, Mom boomed.

Amanda decided to remain silent and continue because she did not want her nutcase Mom to go crazy. It seemed like every little thing would set Mom off. When Amanda finished Mom’s toenails and fingernails, she went down in the basement and put Dad’s colored clothes in the dryer. Then his whites went in the washing machine.

Amanda, time to clean the cat litter box, Mom ordered.

You didn’t tell me to clean Cinnamon’s litter box before, Amanda complained.

Well, said Mom, I’m telling you now, so hop to it.

    Good grief, whined Amanda.

Amanda cleaned the cat litter box by washing it, polishing it with paper towels and other cleaning supplies, then dried it with dry paper towels. Finally she put some clean cat litter in it. Next, Amanda washed all the dishes by hand. While she was washing the last one, Emmanuel came in with three dishes.

You’ve got to be kidding, nagged Amanda.

Nope, smirked Emmanuel as he put them in the sink.

As soon as she finished the dishes, Amanda went back in the basement, took Dad’s colored clothes out the dryer, and put them in his laundry basket. Then she took his white clothes and put them in the dryer. She put Emmanuel’s clothes in the washer. Luckily for her, Emmanuel only had colored clothes that needed washing. When Amanda put them in the washer, she took her dad’s basket of colored clothes upstairs and put them on hangers to hang them up in the closet.

Man, I need to use the bathroom, cried Amanda.

Suddenly she heard some dishes go into the sink. Amanda knew that meant more dishes for her to wash. She quickly finished up in the bathroom, ran down to the kitchen with Dad’s empty laundry basket, and got right back to washing dishes. Amanda knew that Mom would accuse her of not washing them. There were eight more dishes for her to wash. As soon as she finished them, Amanda went down in the basement with the empty basket and got her dad’s white clothes out the dryer. She put Emmanuel’s clothes in there and put Mom’s colored clothes in the washing machine. Next, she took the rest of Dad’s clothes upstairs to his room. Amanda went up to her room and took a nap, but six minutes later, Mom shouted so loud, she woke up quick.

Amanda, you get your butt up and finish your projects! yelled Mom.

Mom, Amanda banged, I did Dad’s laundry, Emmanuel’s, yours, cleaned the cat litter box, clipped your nasty toenails and fingernails, and washed the dishes. I need a break, please.

No breaks, you’re on punishment for being a smart-mouth, shouted Mom.

I told you the truth about Olivia! Amanda exploded. Y’all caught her red-handed. Olivia lied to get off the hook. I can bet you she’s laughing at you now thinking you’re a lamebrain because she lied and you just believed her.

Get up now, Mom hollered, or I’ll whip you again.

Amanda did not want to get whipped again because she was already in a lot of pain from all that work. She had no choice but to do what Mom said. Amanda organized the living room, got Emmanuel’s laundry out of the dryer because it stopped, then put Mom’s colored laundry in there. Mom’s white laundry went in the washer next. Amanda took Emmanuel’s clothes up to his room, dumped them on his bed, and started folding them. Emmanuel was playing video games with his friends Tony and Byron.

Girl, you look beat up, said Byron.

I know, Amanda replied, Mom’s punishing me for telling her the truth about my niece Olivia messing up my bed, paint, and shoes. It’s terrible, Byron.

    Yeah, that’s crazy, Byron sympathized.

I have to get back to folding these clothes before my mom catches me, said Amanda.

    We’ll help you, Tony offered.

Thank you so much, Tony, Amanda cheered.

Come on, Emmanuel, Byron ordered, she’s your sister.

Yeah, look at her, she’s a mess, said Tony.

    Alright, complained Emmanuel.

They all pitched in to help Amanda. By the time they finished, Amanda had to go back to the basement. When she got down there, both the dryer and washer stopped.

Okay, said Amanda, I’ll put mom’s colored clothes in the basket and her whites in the dryer.

That’s what she did. Second, Amanda put all Cedric’s clothes in the washer. He only had colors. Then she took Mom’s colored clothes up to her parents’ room, folded them up, and put them in her mom’s drawers. Amanda’s stomach growled.

Man, cried Amanda, I’m starving with all this work I’ve been doing. I haven’t eaten anything.

She called Dad and told him what fast food she wanted. Then Amanda gave the phone to her brothers, and they told Dad their orders too, and so did Tony, Byron, and Mom. Everybody got food, including Mom and Dad. When Amanda finished eating, she went down in the basement, got Mom’s white clothes out the dryer, and put Cedric’s clothes in there. Then she took Mom’s white clothes up to the correct bedroom, folded them up, and put them in Mom’s drawers. When Amanda came back downstairs, Mom ordered her to clean up behind everybody.

Amanda, clean up this mess, Mom ordered.

    Alright, whined Amanda.

That’s okay, Amanda, said Tony, we’ll put our own trash in the garbage.

Everybody did it except Mom. Luckily Dad took her trash and put it in the garbage can.

    Thanks, guys, said Amanda.

Next, she took the trash out, came back in, and told Mom about her laundry.

All of your laundry is back in your room, Mom, said Amanda. So is Emmanuel’s and Dad’s. Cedric’s laundry is in the dryer now.

Later that day, Cedric went to the basement and got his own laundry. Amanda was happy that all her chores were completed. She went to her room and fell asleep. The next day, Mom had to do Amanda’s hair.

Come on, Amanda, Mom called, I have to do your hair.

Amanda sat down in the chair, and Mom got started right away. She was tender headed, but Mom just loved braiding her hair anyway.

    Ouch, Mom, cried Amanda.

    Girl, shut up! shouted Mom.

That hurts, and I’m tender headed, said Amanda.

This isn’t the first time I did your hair, said Mom as she continued to braid Amanda’s hair.

    Ouch! screamed Amanda.

    Quiet! hollered Mom.

You’re not the one getting your hair braided, so you don’t even feel my pain, snapped Amanda.

Amanda watched television as Mom continued to braid her hair. She was crying in pain because it felt like she was getting hit on the head. Mom did not care about how much pain Amanda was in because she just wanted to do her hair regardless. Born tender headed, Amanda could not hold in her tears as Mom braided her hair. An hour passed, and Mom wasn’t even halfway done. Mom was a slow braider.

My bottom hurts, Mom, cried Amanda.

    So, replied Mom.

Can I take a break, please? Amanda asked.

    No, Mom replied.

    This isn’t fair, said Amanda.

Mom ignored her and continued braiding. Amanda wanted to jump up and kick her in the stomach several times but knew she would get in trouble. She had no choice but to sit there and suffer through braid pain. Watching TV distracted Amanda. Finally, after the second movie, Mom was done at last.

Finally, said Amanda, now I can go lay down.

As soon as Amanda took a nap on her bed, Mom came in and woke her up.

Come wash the dishes, Amanda, said Mom.

I already washed them yesterday, cried Amanda, along with doing everybody’s laundry, taking out the trash, organizing the living room, and cleaning the cat litter box. Why didn’t you get Cedric or Emmanuel to wash them while you were doing my hair?

    They’re boys, answered Mom.

So what, said Amanda, I took out the trash, and I’m a girl. They should wash the dishes.

I told you to do them, said Mom.

No, said Amanda, this is silly because when I was doing all those projects yesterday, everybody else was just lying around doing nothing. I just sat in a chair for two hours and twenty-five minutes while you braided my hair. Cedric and Emmanuel were just watching TV and playing games. Get them to do it because they haven’t done anything all day.

Mom spanked Amanda and forced her to wash the dishes. Amanda washed every single silverware, bowl, plate, pot, and pan. Her brothers came in with more dishes when she was finished.

No way, you guys wash those because I just finished, Amanda explained. You guys haven’t done anything all day but just sit around and play games.

Wash those dishes, girl! shouted Mom.

You wash them, Amanda snapped back and ran out the kitchen.

Get back here, Amanda, Mom hollered, or I’ll whoop you again.

Amanda just ran back in the kitchen and washed more dishes. Her mom and brothers walked out of the kitchen.

Man, making one person do all this work isn’t fair, Amanda made a fuss.

She washed her brothers’ dishes, cleaned the counter, stove, table, and chairs. Amanda also mopped the floor with cleaning liquid too.

There, now it smells fresh, said Amanda.

Then after the kitchen floor dried up, Amanda went to the freezer and ate some strawberry ice cream and went in the living room. Mom and Emmanuel went in the kitchen.

The strawberry ice cream is all gone, Emmanuel complained.

Amanda, shouted Mom, get in here now!

She ran in the kitchen, and Mom snapped.

Did you eat all the ice cream? asked Mom.

There was only a little bit left, replied Amanda, and this is my first bowl.

Next time, don’t take so much! Mom clashed. I’m going to slap, you hear.

Chill out, guys! shouted Amanda, it’s just ice cream, and besides, Emmanuel, you ate most of it.

I asked for it, said Emmanuel.

You always eat up my stuff, sputtered Amanda, so what’s your excuse? As a matter of fact, here, take this ice cream and leave me alone. You morons get mad over the stupidest stuff, babies.

    Amanda, said Mom.

Don’t talk to me! clangored Amanda. I gave Emmanuel his stupid ice cream. Now leave me alone, fatheads, go away.

She stormed up to her bedroom and slammed the door. Amanda also blocked the door so no one could enter.

This stinks, nettled Amanda. Mom is such a crazy, fussy woman. Every little thing would make her go crazy. Ketchup, ice cream, what’s next? I’m going to play my video games in peace.

She played a video game to calm down. A little while later, Amanda heard the ice cream truck that sold cotton candy, snow cones, and other treats. She grabbed $10 out her piggy bank and bought herself some treats. Emmanuel and Cedric came outside, bought themselves treats too. Amanda went back inside, went up to her room, ate her cotton candy and snow cone. Then she took a nap. She heard the voices of Bella and Olivia. When Amanda heard a bang, she came downstairs and saw Olivia.

    What? screamed Amanda.

Olivia laughed like a demon, meaning Yep, your day is going to be a disaster. Bella and Olivia came over to visit.

What’s she doing here? asked Amanda.

    Amanda, snapped Mom.

You wouldn’t want someone saying that about you, said Emmanuel.

Y’all been saying stuff about her behind her back all the time, said Amanda, so what’s y’all’s excuse. You, Mom, be complaining about how she talks back to you and gets into stuff.

Mom gave her a scary mad face, so Amanda decided to remain silent because Olivia wasn’t going anywhere.

Terrific, Amanda said in her head, trouble all over again.

She was right because just as soon as they got in Amanda’s room, Olivia messed up the game Amanda paused. Then she jumped on her bed again.

Mom is such a simpleminded dingbat, said Amanda. She always lets trouble in the house.

You can complain all you want, Amanda breath, smirked Olivia, "because Mommy and Grandma are too much of nitwits to believe my
