About this ebook

The author of this book was interested in learning the four major religions of the world—Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. As a result of five years of intensive study of all the holy books, he came up with three books with the following titles:

1000 Similarities and 100 Differences between the Holy Bible and Holy Quran

This will reveal the major doctrinal sameness and differences between these two religions.

700 Amazing Similarities and Differences between Bhagavad-Gita and Bible

This will explain the verses of the Hindu holy book, comparing it with the Holy Bible.

Word of Truth of Dhammapada and Way of Truth through Bible

This book explains the 423 verses of Buddhist holy book, comparing them with that of the Holy Bible.

These books were written in a simpler manner without making any changes on the original wordings for the people to easily read, understand, and explore. These books will eliminate the doubts, question, and false assumptions among these religions so that each reader will gain a sound understanding of the teachings of these four major religions of the world.

Among these four religions, in my view, Christianity and Islam appear to be very close to each other. Surprisingly, the name of Jesus is mentioned in the book of Quran at least seventy-seven times. Hence, the author wants to separate this significant finding to explain further to those readers who are interested to know what the Quran reveals about the Christian prophet, Jesus.

77 Truths about Jesus Revealed in Quran!

They are very interesting to read, understand, and to teach others with authenticity. These four books are very valuable tools for pastors, religious teachers, professors of religious studies, priests, Sunday schoolers, group sessions, and missionary workers. They will gain ample knowledge about the religions of those people with whom they are working with.

77 Truths about Jesus Revealed in Quran! - Jegan Fernando, MD

    Truth No.

    1

We Gave Jesus Clear Proofs (2:87)

We gave Moses the Scripture and sent a succession of messengers after him.

And we gave Jesus, son of Mary, the clear proofs, and we supported Him with the Holy Spirit.

Is it that whenever a messenger comes to you with anything your souls do not desire, you grew arrogant, calling some impostors and killing others?

    —Sura 2 al-Baqarah (The Heifer):87

    *****

Moses was given the Ten Commandments, which is the basis for all the laws that were revealed by God at Mount Sinai when God spoke to Moses face-to-face. It is widely believed that Moses was the author of the first five books of the Bible, which consists of the Torah in which Moses explains clearly about the creation of the man, the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt to the promised land, and the receiving The ten Commandments from God and subsequent enlargement of the laws of the land through Leviticus and Deuteronomy. This scripture was part of the Old Testament, and subsequent prophets that were sent by God had their writings of the message that were inspired from God to the chosen people of Israel.

We may read this in Deuteronomy 31:24-26:

So it was, when Moses had completed writing the words of this law in a book, when they were finished, that Moses commanded the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, saying:

Take this Book of the Law, and put it beside the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, that it may be there as a witness against you.

It is true that Jesus was filled with Holy Spirit before He started His ministry, was tempted by the devil, and emerged triumphant of every temptation that the devil placed on Him. This we could read in the gospel written by Luke 4:1–2:

Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil.

The men of Israel those days were rebellious people who were treating the prophets arrogantly, and many of them were killed in the hands of the children of Israel. However, the death of Jesus was not an accidental one but was prophesied many years ago by the past prophets as a fulfillment of God’s plan for the salvation of humanity.

The disciples of Jesus used strong words at the men of Israel following the death of Jesus on the cross for their ill treatment of Messiah the Christ.

You stiff necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.

Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers, who have received the law by the direction of angels and have not kept it. (Acts 7:51–53)

The children of Israel boasted within themselves, saying that they would not have participated in the persecution and killing of the prophets in the following manner:

If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets. Thus you witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. (Matt. 23:30–31)

The same men of Israel did not recognize who Jesus was, and the apostle John wrote the following about those who had accepted Jesus as the Christ:

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. (John 1:12)

Jesus gives a warning word on those men, pointing out the scripture of Moses in such a way:

You do not have his word abiding in you for you do not believe in the one who has sent me. You search the Scriptures because you think in them you have eternal life. It is they that bear witness about me yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.

For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me.

But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words? (John 5:38–39, 46–47)

Apostle John reveals the reward we receive when we believe in Jesus as the Messiah and Christ and accept Him as our Savior and to those who reject Him as the Savior:

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John 3:36)

Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. (1 Cor. 12:3)

    Truth No.

We Believe in What Was Given to Jesus (2:136)

Say, "We believe in God; and in what was revealed to us; and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs; and in what was given to Moses and Jesus; and in what was given to the prophets-from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we surrender."

    —Sura 2 al-Baqarah (The Heifer): 136

Obviously, the Quranic writers and the believers clearly indicate that they believe in what were revealed to our patriarchs from Abraham to Jacob, but it is not clearly mentioned in the Quran the entire events that occurred from Abrahamic time unto Jesus’s time. So if someone says that he believes in all these patriarchs, including Moses and Jesus, but the events that occurred during those times were not clearly revealed, then where do we find those facts? Obviously, it is found in Bible, clearly and chronologically in beautiful storylike fashion. It is written by the authors for the future generation to read and understand rather than merely say that they believe in what was revealed without knowing what was actually revealed to them. The following are questions we should ask within ourselves:

    What was revealed to Abraham?

    What was revealed to Ishmael?

What was revealed to Isaac and Jacob?

What was revealed to the patriarchs Moses and Jesus?

Quran did not clearly give this information, although they acknowledge that they believe in what was revealed to these biblical men.

What was revealed to Abraham to Moses and to all the major and minor prophets by God have been chronologically described in the books of Torah and the scriptures, and what was revealed to Jesus by God are clearly described in the gospels.

In this book, our focus is on what was revealed to Jesus by God, and obviously the Quran clearly indicates that the book believes in what was revealed to Jesus. Therefore, the author’s interest is to let the readers know and clearly understand the message that Jesus received from God and revealed to the people.

When saying that the Quran does not make any distinction between the prophets from Abraham to Jesus, obviously the message given by each figure is different from one to the other. Therefore, even if one does not believe in the special nature of Jesus and not distinguish between the prophets, the message delivered by each one of them becomes more important than their position.

When we say that we believe in God and in what was revealed through the patriarch and Jesus, Jesus Himself clearly says that He believed in the one and only God from whom He brought the message, and He came to fulfill what was revealed before in the form of the Torah and the scriptures and establish a new order of covenant that He brought from God, the Heavenly Father.

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus mentions this very clearly in the following way:

Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.

For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. (Matt. 5:17–18)

In addition, Jesus wants to separate the Old Testament from the new one that He brought from the Father and revealed to the humanity.

No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse.

Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved. (Matt. 9:16–17)

Jesus places a higher emphasis of the Father who is in heaven, and He reveals His relationship with the Heavenly Father at many locations throughout his teachings.

Let me bring few examples of the nature and quality of his relationship with the Heavenly Father:

At that time Jesus answered and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.

Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.

All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. (Matt. 11:25–27)

Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.

For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. (John 5:19–20)

I have come in My Father’s name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. (John 5:43)

And many more believed because of His own word. Then they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world. (John 4:41–42)

We Gave Jesus Clear Miracles (2:253)

These messengers: We gave some advantage over others. To some of them God spoke directly, and some He raised in rank.

We gave Jesus son of Mary the clear miracles, and We strengthened him with the Holy Spirit.

Had God willed, those who succeeded them would not have fought one another, after the clear signs had come to them; but they disputed; some of them believed, and some of them disbelieved.

Had God willed, they would not have fought one another; but God does whatever He desires.

    —Sura 2 al-Baqarah (The Heifer): 253

In the Middle Eastern culture, in biblical times, when someone mentions the name of a man, usually he is described with accompanying son of so-and-so. For example:

Simon the son of Jona (John 1:42)

Zacharias the son of a Barachias (Matt. 23:35)

However, in the Quran, Jesus is depicted as the son of Mary every time, which is unusual to describe a man in the Middle Eastern culture. Nevertheless, when Quran describes Jesus as the son of Mary, it is indirectly accepted that Jesus did not have an earthly father but the heavenly one in the form of Holy Spirit.

God has spoken with many prophets, and some of them had spoken with God face-to-face.

For example, one of the most prominent prophets, Moses, about whom the book of Exodus is described as the following:

So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. (Exod. 33:11)

But since then there has not arisen in Israel a prophet like Moses, whom the Lord knew face to face, in all the signs and wonders which the Lord sent him to do in the land of Egypt, before Pharaoh, before all his servants, and in all his land, and by all that mighty power and all the great terror which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel. (Deut. 34:10–12)

It is mentioned that God has filled Jesus with the Holy Spirit to perform supernatural miracles. However, Jesus had never given higher importance to the miracles than to His message, because He Himself knew that the miracles would not convince people or take them to the Father in heaven, but they would believe in Him and His message.

The best example is that people were trying to make Jesus king forcefully after he multiplied five loaves and two fish and gave them to five thousand men. Obviously, it was a supernatural miracle that no human being could perform, but Jesus did not agree with their intentions of making Him a king. Even though He is a king in His heavenly kingdom, He did not come to establish His kingdom here at this time but to take His believers back to the kingdom of God. He emphasized His message to the believers rather than believe in His miracles.

It was not the will of God that the people were fighting each other, and many did not believe in Jesus’s message. They disputed with Him because they were disobedient, rebellious, and filled with sinful nature. Their spiritual blindness, stony hearts, and confused minds made them not believe in His message. It is not God’s will that they were fighting each other, but it is their own arrogance and pride that made them not accept the message of salvation.

Therefore, the believers of Christ Jesus should not be deceived by the miracles and the supernatural nature of those miracles and forget the true message that was brought by Jesus from his Father and delivered to the humanity.

Jesus had mentioned in several places that He was the Son of God, and the message He brought was from His Heavenly Father and the need for the human being to accept His message or face the disastrous consequences of refusing to accept His teachings.

He that comes from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaks of the earth: he that comes from heaven is above all. And what he has seen and heard, that he testifies; and no man receives his testimony. He that has received his testimony has set to his seal that God is true. For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God: for God gives not the Spirit by measure unto him.

The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. He that believes in the Son has everlasting life: and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abides on him. (John 3:31–36)

From Abraham to Jesus, none of the men who were sent by God were accepted by all the people. And as such, there will always be nonbelievers, no matter how forcefully a message was insisted upon and how important the message was. This is not the work of God for their unbelief, but the men of hardened hearts, spiritual blindness, and deafness have prevented them from hearing the word of God.

Prophet Isaiah clearly describes this about those people who were living in his days as following:

Go, and tell this people: Keep on hearing, but do not understand; Keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’

Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed. (Isa. 6:9–10)

The very same frustration was experienced by Jesus Himself when He saw the people of His days did not believe in Him. When the disciples asked Jesus why He preached to the people by way of parables, He was quoting the same frustration which was revealed by the prophet Isaiah in the following manner in the book of Matthew:

And the disciples came and said to Him, Why do You speak to them in parables?

He answered and said to them, "Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.

Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.

    And in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: ‘Hearing you will hear and shall not understand, And seeing you will see and not perceive;

For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.’" (Matt.13:10, 13–15)

Is that not true? Even today, there are millions of people in the world who have heard the life-giving words from Jesus, but they never believed in Him because their hearts were stony, their ears were hard of hearing, and their eyes became blind. Therefore, even though they hear the word, they don’t understand the significance and are not impressed in their hearts.

How true the prophet Isaiah and Jesus are!

You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins. (John 8:23–24)

    Truth No.

    4

They Say, God Has Begotten a Son (2:116)

And they say, "God has begotten a son." Be He glorified. Rather, His is everything in the heavens and the earth; all are obedient to Him.

    —Sura 2 al-Baqarah (The Heifer): 116

The outright rejection of Jesus as He claimed that He was the Son of God had also taken place when He was on earth and trying to convince the Pharisees and Jews on His days. Many of them blatantly refused to accept the fact that He was the one who was sent by God, the Christ and the Messiah.

Either those men were ignorant of their own religious books of the Old Testament at the time of Jesus, in which there had been multiple references regarding Jesus’s coming as the Christ and the Messiah, or their spiritual eyes and minds were blind. Apostle Paul revealed it in his book that he wrote to the Corinthians:

But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. (2 Cor. 4:3–4)

The Jewish leaders and the scribes were very concerned about their earthly positions as chief priest and the scribes, so they did not want anyone to take over their positions or overpower them. No matter what the motivation was, the prophecies of the prophets and the plan of God will never change and will continue as God had scheduled.

When we call God omnipotent (Almighty), omniscient, omnipresent, and claimed that there is nothing that our God cannot do, how can we say God cannot have a son? By saying that, we put limitations on God, assuming that God is powerless on certain things, especially to have a son or send His son to the earth. We agree that God is the creator of all mankind and the entire universe. If so, would it be difficult for such a powerful God to have a son or create one when needed and send Him to earth on a special mission?

Then we can never say that God is omnipotent, but He is deficient in something.

This fundamental doctrine of God is essential to believe and understand rest of the redemption story and ultimate salvation planned by God by using a sinless, spotless lamb born in the form of a human being to fulfill God’s plan of salvation of humanity.

God did not want any soul to perish and end up in eternal death and damnation. He wants every soul to be saved by believing in the only Son that He sent to redeem humanity from the clutches of sin, eternal death, and hell.

This is what John, in his famous 3:16 verse, clearly reveals:

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

The Pharisees were making several attempts to trap Jesus in His word, deeds, and behavior.

They accused Him that His deeds were performed with the help of the devil. They made attempts to find faults in His words, but they could not.

They tried to tarnish His behavior and character by accusing Him of accompanying sinners and tax collectors and spending more time with them. But the answer from Jesus was unique and unexpected:

When the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?

When Jesus heard that, He said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.

But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance." (Matt. 9:11–13)

That was the clear answer then and there!

Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.

Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me.

But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you.

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.

I and My Father are one." (John 10:24–30)

God is a loving, merciful, and gracious God, and He loves humanity so much. He did not want a single member of it to perish. He wants all of them to have everlasting life and live with Him forever, and the only way one can do that is to believe in His begotten son.

Without the Father sending his Son to the world and revealing the nature of God, no one would know who God is, His real nature, and His plan toward human beings. This is why Jesus said:

No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has declared him. (John 1:18)

For nothing will be impossible with God. With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible. Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me? (Luke 1:37; Matt. 19:26; Jer. 32:27)

    Truth No.

    5

His Name Is the Messiah, Jesus (3:45)

The Angels said, "O Mary, God gives you good news of a Word from Him. His name is the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, well esteemed in this world and the next, and one of the nearest."

—Sura 3 Ali ‘Imran (Family of Imran): 45

Here it is acknowledged the fact that God Himself has given the good news of the word to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and His true position as the Messiah who will be esteemed in this world and in heaven. It is perfectly right to say that God has given the message of Jesus’s birth through the angel, and He stands above any other prophet, having a special nature and position in the Scripture. Yes, it is true that He was the one who was expected to come to redeem His people and the world, and He did come as it was prophesied centuries ago by the prophet Micah.

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting. (Mic. 5:2)

Prophet Micah was living in the region of Judah between 750 and 686 before Jesus was born. He was making an amazing prophecy, which is still being accepted as one of the accurate prophecies of a lifetime of human history.

There were thousands of villages in the region of Judah during Micah’s period, yet Micah
