    Introduction

Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets... (Habakkuk 2:2, NIV)

    IT IS WRITTEN

Today, the skill of writing in script still provides important advantages. A signature is unique to each individual and, therefore, can be used to confirm one’s identity. In addition, a signature is often used to authorize the desires and actions made by a specific individual. There may be many similar signatures; however, each signature, like a fingerprint, is distinctly unique.

During God’s interaction with Moses on Mount Sinai, the Lord communicated, in a distinctly unique way, through the process of writing. It was there, in the midst of a most incredible exchange, that the Lord presented His commands. The words were not written by man but by the distinct hand of God. Our Creator superseded man’s natural state of being, encountered Moses and created a written, concrete, and visible product.

    Two Tablets

When the Lord finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets of the covenant law, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God (Exodus 31:18, NIV).

The covenant law, written on tablets by the finger of God! This act of God is a clear indication of the importance of the written word. The covenant law was read to the Israelites and the Lord had signs following. The people were filled with fear and reverence for the Lord. During this encounter, the people requested that Moses intercede by reading the Ten Commandments, written by the Lord, to them.

When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance and said to Moses, ‘Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die’ (Exodus 20:18, NIV).

The inscriptions on the tablets were eventually transcribed and remain as the indisputable word of God, a guideline, and, most importantly, covenant promises of God.

For some individuals, this may be a hard pill or tablet to swallow, pardon the pun; however, if scripture is only engaged through one’s natural ability, comprehension, understanding, and revelation will not be received.

This is what we speak not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:13, NIV).

Paul, in his letters to the Corinthians, declares in this verse and chapter that spiritual wisdom is needed to comprehend spiritual things.

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth (John 4:24, KJV).

This scripture was written to document an exchange in dialogue between the woman at the well and Jesus the Christ. Jesus informed his disciples that he needed
