The Lion Will Roar

About this ebook
The lion will roar! History is divided by great historical events. Recorded history is divided by the coming of Christ. Wars, depressions, and worldwide pandemics have defined history. The events of the last sixteen months have doubtlessly shaped our generation and the next.
Nothing that has happened in history, aside from the coming of Christ, has shaped history like the events to come. The Lion's Roar will bring history to its inevitable conclusion.
The Prophet Joel's, among others, prophecies of the Lion's Roar:
The Lord will roar from Zion. and thunder from Jerusalem; the earth and the heavens will tremble. But the Lord will be a refuge for his people. (Joel 3:16)
This book will provide guidance about the Lion's Roar. This book is unique in that the story is told from the perspective of a grandfather telling his grandson about the coming roar. Following that section, you will be able to explore this subject through a detailed study of Scripture. Finally, you will be challenged to expect and respond to the Lion's Roar.

Every author realizes that his or her work has been shaped by many others. Many people sacrifice for the author to dedicate the time needed to complete a work.
I acknowledge that my amazing partner, Teresa, has encouraged and supported me through this process. Thank you, Mrs. Friesz, for your willingness to stand by my side and help me in so many ways.
I dedicate this book to my two grandchildren and the ones to come.
Asher, you light up this papa’s heart every time I hear your voice or see your face. I will look forward to watching as you come to know the Lion and are introduced to His kingdom.
Chip, your birthday was the day you got to meet the Lion face-to-face. Our arms yearn to hold you. We wish we could watch you grow and learn. Our hurt and longing in your absence will be overcome with joy as we see you and love on you for eternity. We miss the opportunities in this life and look forward to you showing us around our new home!
In His grace, God will bless us with two more grandchildren in 2021 and, prayerfully, others in the years to come. For each of you, please know that your papa is praying for you now. As in this book, your papa looks forward to helping you get to know our great lion. Whether through lessons at the zoo, by a lake, or in any other setting, it will be a privilege to watch your growth.
Prelude
2020
Doubtless just seeing those four numbers in sequence caused an intense reaction in you. The best part of seeing that sequence of numbers is being able to say, We made it through.
Everything is changing faster than we could ever have imagined. Who could have seen 2020 coming? The catastrophic events just kept coming. Wildfires in Australia started the year. Quickly, a virus captured our attention interspersed with violent demonstrations. Throw in a record number of hurricanes and more wildfires. As if those things were not enough, we endured an election cycle unparalleled in American history.
The year will live on in our memories. The struggle with the coronavirus has been a generational shaping event. Just as 9/11 shaped the most recent generation. (I know, I know. Some who read this do not think that 9/11 is already a then
event.) Working with students, I am painfully aware that they read about this tragedy as just another event in the history books.
9/11 is history because they have not lived it. It is not theirs. For those of us who lived it, it has shaped us in ways that did not stop. Society has not gone back. One small example of the permanent changes that occur is the process we endure when we go to the airport.
The generational events in each era shape that era. The assassination of President Kennedy long affected the psyche of a nation. Camelot was shattered. The political world has been altered and has not returned.
The generation prior to that one was forever changed by the dual tragedies of worldwide depression and two wars of unequaled proportions. Why did our parents or grandparents act as they did? Because of what they experienced. Why would you wash and save a piece of aluminum foil? Because you lived in a day when you could not get more. They never got over it
because it changed them.
The long-term effects of 2020 cannot be seen from our current perspective. We are all certain that it has changed us. We can barely tolerate even seeing the words: pandemic, social distancing, face masks, racial unrest. An ugly, vicious political climate. We can barely tolerate
