Some of the poems include “I Knew There Must Be Angels,” “Ghosts on the Rise,” “Nine Eleven,” “The Storyteller,” “And Here We are on the Stage Tonight,” “Surprised at the Magic Still in our Eyes,” “Journey Through the Caverns,” “The Dirty Knees Blues,” and “A Homecoming for the Ships.”

    The Storyteller - Christopher Corrigan

Can We Remember the Way They Walked?

Can we remember the way they walked?

Can we remember the path they went?

    Did they say they were

    Forever heaven-bent?

Can we just climb the same walls they did?

Can’t we softly hear their voices chime?

Isn’t it time we slowly walked down?

Does it seem the walls are moving in?

Do the stones seem to dangle uneasily?

Do the stones seem to watch us?

    Are there really eyes within,

    Penetrating our souls?

    Is it in the air

    Or are we really cold?

    What is moving out within?

Are we in the mud to our chin?

    Is the water tumbling down?

    Can we slowly look around?

Do we know that certain sound

Of mighty men digging in the ground,

    Mighty men a-mining?

    What were they finding?

Did they just walk away forever?

Are they coming back in twilight time?

Could it be just a dream we dreamt?

    Are they just here,

    Just facing us?

Do we feel their eyes a-burning?

Do they feel our spirits, too?

    We are them,

    And us are you.

Can we just be in this together,

    So we can remember

    How they found us?

Was it just us and them between?

So we worked down there together?

    Us and them

    And you and me.

    We might have been

    Of different dimensions,

    Different times.

    How real it all seems

    We were just there altogether.

We just walked and faced them,

    We just mined.

    There was no space between.

    Just us and them,

    And you and me, too.

    Come Within the StoryTime

    Come within the StoryTime!

We needed a lengthened Poet Line,

For it has been some time past.

And those words, they fell so fast,

And all of us, we felt so close,

    We needed everyone the most

The Dancer came down from the coast.

She was what the Poet wanted most.

    They both told tales—

    No show of Froggies’ tails.

    Everyone was calm and dumbstruck—

    It was romantic story luck.

    New tales unknown,

    No one moved or spoke,

    No haunting choke,

    No bats had flown,

    No shadows moved,

    No ghosts did groove,

    No ghosts through walls,

    No spirits’ calls.

    A very steady StoryTime beat.

    Such lively, agile, eager feet

They could not help but dance and dance.

The Poet and Dancer, they just pranced.

They were on great, amazing fire.

No one slept on the cavern-floor wire.

    A thundering rush,

    Thor hammering down,

    A Poet’s song,

    A Dancer’s spin ’round.

Oh, please don’t let the Spirits in!

Oh, please don’t let the Ghosts get in!

    No ghostly rise,

    Just soulful eyes

    Just watched and listened

    As things glistened.

They were quite mesmerized and dazed—

It wasn’t just a common phase.

    It was amazing magic quick

    A-shaking ’round the Story Stick,

Echoing fine lines off the walls.

No stones or rocks or skies did fall,

No awful din or frightening sound,

’Twas just a Poet all around.

    The dance, it grooved

    A slow, smooth move,

    A heightened fire,

    A story choir,

    No froggy slip,

    No heartbeat skipped,

’Twas just a heavenly, lovely sound,

And all who mattered were around

    On candlelighted cavern floors,

No Ghosts a-passing through the doors,

    A Story Time!

    What lightning line!

    ’Twas all quite fine

    Upon our time.

Who Put the Shine Within the Stone?

Who put the shine within the stone?

Who put the crystal in that zone?

It must have been God above.

It was his thoughts, it was his love,

It was his hands that touched those stones.

He carefully placed them in that zone.

He placed them in the clay so warm

To guard them from the frightening storm.

They will be found throughout the years

By happy hearts and silent tears.

So let us touch those stones so low

    Beneath the gentle earth below.

We cannot see the shine just yet,

Nor have we seen heaven just yet,

But these must be a piece of heaven,

    A touch of magic, lucky-seven.

We pluck them from their gold-lined pockets,

So she can wear them in her locket.

Who put the shine within the stone?

Who put the crystal in that zone?

They were just so, just heaven-sent.

Don’t fold or mutilate or bent.

We need them for our living souls.

We want them on our pillows

    To be lined with gold.

    Stones on the Edge

    Stones on the edge…

    We are swinging the sledge.

    We are moving the earth

    Up from its berth.

Watch the rain come crashing down.

We might get flooded all around.

It may not be the day to dig the stones.

We could be here, lost, floating all alone.

The stream may become a river rush.

Don’t forget we went through the winter slush,

But this is now the lovely spring

    Of our content and well-being.

We’ll have crystals up to our eyes.

So many forms and colors—a delightful surprise!

Just like presents under the tree,

One for you and one for me.

    So stones on the edge

    Don’t jump from the ledge.

Don’t let the air out, don’t get a flat.

No, we would not leave you like that.

    Just stones on the edge,

    Left on the ledge.

    Gems and Crystals Underground

Twinkling lights, where do they lie?

Like the stars of the night sky,

They are grown of liquid and gas.

They are twinkling in a mass.

Some are dug, some grow on wall.

In a long time, they might fall.

Just let them grow real, real tall.

Can you picture them at all?

They are from the earth’s grand past,

So don’t you break them up so fast.

Let them be there for them all

Who will walk through, and they will crawl.

Gems and crystals lie in the ground.

Do they make a dripping sound?

Do they have their eyes on you?

    Many colors…some are blue.

Can you see them hang up there?

They need love and living care.

Many forms and shapes they grew.

    Did you know

    They were here?

    Who knew?

I Knew There Must Be Angels

I knew there must be angels true

At the moment I first saw you.

Now you remind me every day.

Just who you are blows me away.

How did you become earthbound, dear?

    Do you mind just
