    About The Holy Spirit Journal

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. Romans 8:14 NIV

The Holy Spirit Journal is a special journal like no other because the messages and content were directly inspired through an encounter with the Holy Spirit. This journal is an application of God’s will as it was revealed during that encounter. It is the Lord’s desire for us to let the Holy Spirit lead our prayer life (Romans 8:26), for us to receive the power of the Holy Spirit and witness (Acts 1:8), for us to treat ALL scripture like it is God-breathed word (2 Timothy 3:16), for us to listen to the word of God and live in accordance with what it says (James 1:22), for us to remember the wonders he has performed (Psalms 105:5), for us to write the vision and make it plain upon tablets (Habakkuk 2:2), and for us to tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He has done (Psalms 78:4). The Holy Spirit Journal is a tool that can assist us in living in accordance with God’s instructions.

This journal is about taking the time to mentally acknowledge and allow the Holy Spirit to lead the documentation of what God is doing and has done (praying before anything is written and preserved) and being habitually focused on understanding who God is, what He is saying, and who we are in our God-given identity. You are covered in God’s grace and peace! Chosen, destined, and adopted! Redeemed, forgiven, and free from sin! Rich with inheritance of fruitfulness, abundance, and eternalness! Equipped with boundless power, strength, and capabilities in Jesus! Covered in the wisdom of the Holy Spirit that lives within you! The beauty in our identity should be the foundation leading how we speak to ourselves, hear God’s voice, live out God’s eternal purpose for our lives, disciple with others and journal. The Holy Spirit Journal is only intended for the documentation of God’s activities and nothing should be written in it without praying first and allowing the Holy Spirit to lead. Remembering who God is and who we are as believers, strengthens our relationship with God which results in understanding that aligns our identity and God’s will for us with actionable living.

Preserving God’s activity through the Holy Spirit’s guidance will help us remember the things God has done and seek the gift of His presence, character, promises, and salvation in all we do. A completed journal is considered a volume and is a book of remembrance to reflect and share with future generations. Journalers are encouraged to begin documenting with at least two volumes (journals); one volume for past encounters that have already taken place to be preserved and a second volume for current encounters as God continues to work in your life. The Holy Spirit Journal should be used personally, gifted to others as a discipling tool, and preserved to share and reflect God’s goodness with future generations.

WHAT TO DOCUMENT: Examples worthy of documenting and reflecting in the Holy Spirit Journal include but are not limited to: dreams, blessings, visions, answered prayer, truths from sermons, Bible messages, and any personal encounter with God that makes Him more real to you. The more we are seeking the word of God and a right relationship with Him, the more often we will have encounters where we can hear and see what He is revealing. Remember to keep your identity at the forefront and ask the Holy Spirit to lead your journaling with wisdom & understanding, guidance, and purpose. Let the Holy Spirit guide the chapter of life being documented. One season may last several months or even a year, while others may be as brief as just a couple of weeks or a month. The more we are engaged with understanding and hearing God’s voice in our lives, the more seasons and volumes we will have documented to preserve and share with future generations.

PREPARING TO USE THE JOURNAL: Before writing in the Holy Spirit Journal, you may want to make a simple outline of the encounter you are going to document on a separate pad of paper. The outline does not need to be lengthy or complicated but should include at least the major things you intend to capture and preserve. Doing a simple outline in advance that you can pray over should keep your journaled literature focused on the encounter, organized, and easier to read and reflect on later. If you need help getting your outline going, there is a section in the back of the journal titled Prompts to Assist Journaling If Needed.

BEFORE & AFTER USING THE JOURNAL: Journaling in the Holy Spirit Journal should always begin and end with prayer. Start by reviewing the outline of the encounter you put together in advance (or just thinking about the encounter if you did not do an outline) and ask the Holy Spirit to lead you with wisdom, understanding, and guidance on how to journal God’s activity. Be patient and allow time for inspiration and understanding before you begin writing. Once you’ve been empowered with understanding and completed your journal entry, reflect on what you have documented and pray for further guidance. There may be times where prayer needs and responses are what is being journaled as God’s activity. The Prayer Request & God’s Response section in the back of the journal is intentionally separate and should be used to capture continued prayer resulting at the end of each journaling session.
