    Prologue

    The Search for that Place

Isat down in my lounge and got comfortable. I was getting ready to go and spend time, for the first time ever, with my creator—my God. I had already done my usual prayer and read my Bible. This was different. This time, he was hopefully going to come and spend time with me!

I had set apart one hour, thinking that coffee with a friend would take about that time. I set an alarm to go off after an hour.

I had recently been taught that when you go to spend this type of time with your God, you should go as if going to spend time with a cherished friend. During that special time, do not pray, or sing, or worship. Go and sit and wait to meet Him.

    This was new to me.

I covered my head and face with a shawl to cut out distractions. Then I relaxed. Eyes closed. I waited.

I imagined going to a place that I liked in order to find a suitable spot and to meet with my God (similar to finding a location to have coffee and a catchup with a good friend).

I thought of all the places in the world where I had been and liked. The plan was to arrive somewhere, get comfortable, and wait for God to turn up.

The following places were the places that I went to in my imagination—seeking that one place that was my very favourite place in the world, expecting to find the perfect spot quite quickly. I started off with places where I had previously visited or lived—and enjoyed:

A beautiful forest in Scotland—I didn’t feel like staying here for an hour . . . so I moved on.

The Bolin woods—a riverside in Bowdon, Manchester. I didn’t really feel like stopping here either . . . so I moved on.

    Under a mango tree outside our first house . . . not here either . . .

    My parents’ house—definitely not here . . .

    Jerusalem—not here . . .

    My local country club—not here . . .

    Dubai—not here . . .

None of these places seemed right. I couldn’t find a comfortable location!

I then walked into a large rectangular room with a clear sea view. I entered from the left side through an opening in the wall which was positioned in one of the shorter sidewalls of the rectangle. Three of the four walls were solid/stone. The solid walls were: the short sidewall through which I entered; the long wall to my left; and the short sidewall facing me. But the whole long wall on the right-hand side was made of a transparent substance—with a clear view of the beach fading away from the house toward the sea. It was beautiful. It was a sunny day outside with blue skies. So peaceful. It was perfect.

    I heard a
